I would like to post this to warn all LYN member, Don't buy handphone from there!!!

I have bought this iphone from a kiosk called M.MOBILE at Low Yat (1-K002, 97TH MOBILE SDN BHD) on Monday around 7pm.

After I paid using my credit card then only the seller called Daniel showed me the iphone that I bought. For me, it looks brand new just the way he told me that the iphone is new.

After observing the iphone for a while, I handed back to him and he assisted me to put in my sim card in it. He also helped to change my case holder into maroon as part of accessory and protection. After done that, he handed back the iphone to me again to see and try out the application inside. There was nothing much I can check since the battery was low, as low as 5% left to be used.

He said that I should charge the battery for 8 hours and while charging I can still play around with the applications. At that moment also, he actually wanted to download some more applications for me but because it was already late so I told him that I would come again tomorrow for the services. By that time I consider the iphone was okay because I can message and I used the camera.

Around 9pm on my way back, because the battery was flat, the iphone turned off automatically. Once I arrived home, I started to charge the iphone according to the user manual. About 10min after charging, I tried to switch on the iphone, but it didn’t switch on as I expected. I remembered that the seller said I should be able to switch on during the charging process.

I had a look at the charger’s hole and making sure the iphone’s extension fits well to it. Even by doing that, the iphone still not switch on. The next day, I went back during lunch hour to the place and asked the same guy to check for me, my iphone condition and said I’ll be come again after working hour. However around 3.30pm later he text me and accused me removing one of the two screw in between the charger’s hole.

At first I can’t get what he meant of the screw because I don’t even notice there were screws on the bottom of it. I called him and said I don’t know anything about removing the screw because I don’t even have screw driver to do that. Then in the evening, I went there with a colleague friend to meet him and understand the root of the problem.

Over there, then only I get what he meant by the missing screw, all I can say was I didn’t do anything, they should know more because they are the retailer. He said the iphone was fine on the day he sold to me, only after he sells it to me the screw gone. I said that is unfair to accuse me like that and I demand a new iphone since I used the iphone less than 24hours and I didn’t do anything that caused the defect.

Even if he can’t redeem me new iphone I insist for refund. He replied me that he can’t do any of that, he offered for the repair and it is not free of charge. I have to pay additional for it. He also mentioned that the other way is to trade in with half of price I bought. I asked for warranty and he said there is no more warranty since I ‘lost’ the screw myself. I don’t know how much it will cost but it could reach hundred by looking at my iphone condition.

I was so angry that I took back my phone without letting them to repair and bring it to other shops and get second opinion on the iphone. Then I went to the repair shop, and the repairmen said that my iphone is not new instead it is used iphone. I realized, I got conned and what disappoints me most is that I paid for new iphone price and I used it less than 24hours.

Need some advise here, please help!!!

Well, there's a lot of reputable iphone repairer in Lowyat. Try to use search and tell them your situations. They are very professional, so nothing much to worry about. Ask the price before you proceed. Take that as a lesson. Be extra vigilant especially when dealing with small shops. Some but not all, tends to cheat their customer, doing short term profit instead of longer term.

Sorry to hear your loss.

Most phone sellers are GOONS and samseng. I kena once when my phone bought for RM900 rosak and the shop refused to repair for me. what rubbish 'warranty'.

Next time just buy directly from Digi/Maxis/Celcom.

On the side note, I do think most handphone sellers are being affected by the sales of higher-end PDA/Iphone by our local telcos.

That's the trend I see now. Most people will just buy directly from our local telcos, whose phones will normally come with nice warranty and data package.

Nokia/Samsung are yesterday phones. They only can fight at the lower-mid range market.

NEVER buy iphone from any other store than Digi/maxis.

The days of "AP set and warranty" is over for me.

As for your problem, try to look for some reputable Iphone repair service in lowyat forum, you might be able to salvage the phone.

I always stick to this principle, something I learned from my friend.

1. For phone that is more than 1K, always buy from original shop and telco, because if got problem you can have a peace of mind to claim the warranty.

2. For phone that is less than 1K, you can try your luck at caplang AP shop, with risk of these shops not honouring their warranty claim. But if that does happen, at least you won't feel so bad...

From what i heard about lowyat reputation, its not really that good especially those tech-gadget. Mobile phones, laptops/computers or even ps3, i rather buy those outside... Just too many swappable products between traders and sellers that make me disappoint. sad.gif

There will be always be someone buying from these shops & get cheated. No one else can be changed or blamed except for those who wants everything for cheap & at the same time also demand premium quality one.

That is just my general view. Not pointing at anyone here.

Just the matter of honesty?? Doesn't mean if people cutting down price, seller have rights or gonna cheat them for cutting down the price? or giving them lower quality in goods??

If cant do a profit in the deal just dont deal, there is no point to cheat people right? or it terms of cheap things no quality?

General view on trading. Pointing at dishonest people

I believe all shops are like this. They can't bear the loss of replacing that phone for you coz their profit is too little. So this is what they do. Either blame you or something you never did or give you a second hand phone from the beginning.

Its my habit to check the phone properly before making a purchase. Spend time there and MAKE SURE that NOTHING is wrong with the item you purchase. After all, you're spending 1-2k on the phone...that's a lot of money dude,

its weird though...I've never seen a phone that does not have enough batt to even test at the shops.

Do contact Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association immediately, http://www.mypengguna.com/mypengguna/index.php/hubungi-kami they might bring this matter to a tribunal to protect your rights. They might urge the shop to give you a full refund. Don't do anything on your phone first keep it as it is..

Cheating is also a crime, you can lodge a police report at the nearest police station.

Do share your experience with the public by writing to NewStraitsTime, SinChewJitPoh and Berita Harian...
you should determine to tarnish the image of the shop as all of us abhore irresponsible retailer...

I am not surprised to hear that.

For the kind of people mention above, please do your "homework" properly before buying things which is too good to be true.

They are there to help the boss to earn money.

No sales? It is not made known what will happen when monthly sales revenue is not pretty enough to impress the boss.

It is not known if the conmen can distinguish about making profit and cheating people themselves.

Last week I realized that we should be careful shopping in Lowyat.

I wanted to buy a car charger for Samsung Galaxy S phone, so I just stopped by at Lowyat. I went into to a shop that looked like a Samsung reseller. I've asked if they had original car charger for Galaxy S phone and they said yes and quoted me a price 80RM. I told them I will have a look around and come back to them if needed. The salespeople (there was a guy and a girl) had a discussion among themselves and told me that they can give me a best price of 58RM. As it looked like a good deal and as I was in a hurry I said I would get it. The guy went over to another shop (which he said was a branch of theirs) and got me the charger. I did not care to ask for a receipt.

On my way out I stopped by a shop that sells third party phone accessories and found that the same charger was selling for 35RM. Sales person there told me that it was not original but a counterfeit.

The next day I tried to use the charger and realized it was not working at all. I should bring it back to the shop but with no receipt I cannot prove anything. I had to throw the charger away.

Eventually I bought a non branded multi-charger for RM20 from view net hub and it works like a charm with my phone.

Just thought of posting this story so others can be careful-

When buying things in lowyat
1. Always check in 2 or 3 shops and make sure you are not paying ridiculously high price.
2. Always ask for an official receipt for the items you buy (even if they are little items that you never expect not to work).
3. Sign boards and banners does not prove the authenticity of the shops. Look at the shop with banner "Samsung mobile" below, it looks like a sumsung reseller, but they are selling fake items (BTW, the guy in that photo is not the one who sold the item to me, it was another guy and a girl).

Cheers.

Yes you are right. I made a few purchases (even risky items like a 32GB microSD card) from lowyat forums, so for I did not encounter any issues. As you said, online sellers undergo a lot of scrutiny and are often reliable.

Please remember that they are con man around LYN and there is no way of getting your money back if you get conned.

If buying from safe trader, then allow postage. Otherwise, COD with other traders to prevent yourself being conned.

QUOTE(sorna @ Oct 11 2010, 01:24 PM)

Cheers.

The price in lowyat plaza is very cheap already due to the competition.

Iphone accessories is very expensive itself. I guess they also have quite a narrow margin to make profit as well for themselves.

At least people who surf this forum would know about it and be more caution if they really need to deal with the shop.

It's possible your charger is not working. Trying charging it with the USB cable hook to your pc instead

A little more expensive? Ya from the point of percentage.

The difference is definitely not by RMXX.

If you want to buy phones from lowyat plaza, try to bring friends that are familiar with the stuff and do not bargain until the price is too low for the retailers then that is why they started trying to cheat you.

You're lucky you paid by credit card.

You can submit a dispute claims form with your credit card issuer, they will stop payment and you can take it from there.

I heard that it requires both side's consent.

it would be absurd to allow the credit card user to cancel the payment while the goods is already in user's hands.

Correct me if i am wrong.

my experience on buying a cheap nokia phone worth around rm120++ at shoplot in mines shopping fair. i've been using the phone for months. then got a problem due to i always victimize my phone when quarreling with my gf over the phone.

so i return the phone to the shop to let them repair it. they provide me a warranty receipt and they promised to call me whenever the phone is fixed.after 2 weeks, i expect that the phone would already fixed but still not.

later after a month, lastly i have to visit the shop and suprisingly my phone was already being sold.they said that i never claimed back my phone so they have the right to sell it. very stupid argument.

for me,i always browse every shop in lowyat before i buy something.i helped a friend bought an SE phone, helped a friend and my sister to buy laptop.so far nothing bad happen.

my tips to buy things from lowyat:

1) search everywhere you can.
2) try to ask best price.if the seller said they can give discount till ridiculous price, better leave it.i've been offered SE k810 at rm6** when RRP is RM8**.i left the seller cuz i know that's ridiculous.

a Cobbler that fix people's shoes can only sell it if people does not claim it in 3 months' time.

You should consult the consumer rights group to see if you can take action against them.
