Dont know about guitar strings, but I think should work. Only after using clean the strings and slightly spray with anti-rust.

rusted strings need to be replaced. period. even if you managed to sand off the rust, the strings have lost its elastically.

anti-rust works on strings, but it's not good for the fret board.

baby oil is much safer.

Yes, it works as mild solvent that can remove light traces of rust. If you rarely play the guitar, i think its best for you to change the strings to anti-rust guitar strings. I've been using Elixir strings, and I think its a good choice (for fixed bridge guitar. not floating trem)

What strings are you using currently? I suggest using anti-rust strings next time.

Looks like Elixirs are your best bet in this situation.

Based on how long users are using their Elixirs the company is going to go bankrupt soon..
If not mistaken once the coating on the string comes off it would be like any other cheap string..
But I heard that Elixir strings sounds good tone wise

elixirs have been going on for a long long time.
plus they got tie-ins with certain guitar companies to string the new guitars with elixirs...or perhaps the companies also want to.

The only brand of guitar I know of that comes with Elixirs is Taylors..
Maybe they want to create an impression of a display guitar with no rusty strings..laugh.gif

Kalau rm50 elixir pun already sounds mahal to you tak tau string apa you tengah pakai tapi tak sanggup nak replace hehe.. anyway Elixir Nano / Nano Phosphor Bronze your best bet, unless you want to try around different set of strings not recommended to get Polyweb one.

I've been using Elixir's for the last 3 years - keep a stock of it at home just in case I run out. They're really good, ur strings look and remain spritely and sounding bright for far longer than the average ernie/addario/marzio etc. You can also try DR strings - the coated handmade ones, which I feel are even better. If ur looking for a cheap alternetive, there is a cheapo brand called Pyramid, doesn't sound as good but strings last as long as (or even longer than) Elixirs.

zeroglyph is right, be very careful with antirust on ur fretboard.
