I have a Kenwood CD player which is already whacked...the CD wont eject..
So I tot of buying an MP3 player and connect a Line In cable to the car's audio..
Can it be done?

Coz buying an MP3 player and a new CD player costs almost the same..

yeah...if your HU support line in...then there is no problem....
if no...then can think about to add one cheap amplifier, then you also can enjoy your mini mp3 player in your car.... wink.gif

i installed a cheap amp to my car and listen to ipod everyday. i dun have radio because my radio signals are in japanese frequency channel, meaning i dun have access to numbers more than 90. (ie. 92.9, 94.5)

but if u have radio and CD player no working, i believe, if not mistaken, u can install an amp, listen to mp3 player with line in and at the same time can switch to listen to radio too.

edit : installation + amp cost be about RM300 or slightly more

Not sure where this question belongs, but how do you connect your PPC to your car audio system? On my case, it's a Dell Axim X50v with 3.5mm normal headphone jack.

I already have 1 Kenwood Cd player in my car, now still don't have any other component except speakers.

I search the website a bit and saw some successful example which they connect the PPC directly to the amp. Base on that, i checked with 2 audio accesories shop, both of them say cannot. Must use a player with Aux in cable jack. (which is only available on the expensive player).

So any idea how does it works? i'm going to buy an amp sooner or later for the subwoofer. but if they wants me to change to more expensive player with Aux in, would be too much for me tho....

edit:sorry Mod, i just saw the ICE forum. maybe u can move this into that forum.

You could connect it directly to the amp but u may run into some trouble. If you try to conenct both the CD player n ur Dell into the same input using a Y-connector (splitter) you might not be able to hear the audio from either one of the devices if the current output leves are different.

well if u wanna connect ur speakers to ur hp or ipod for example...then u need a amplifier to power up all ur speakers n if u have woofer then another amplifier is required...then after that u put one preamp to control both of this amps.....then on the input part of ur preamp...u buy a rca to headphone jack cable....depends...then connect it n walla...u r ready...n the sound will be awesome...

really?...cassete player?...hehe..
never see one in the market..
it would be easy if using mp3 player or ipod to play mp3, cds have to burn to it and limited storage also hard to manage.
i know there is an audio player in u.s, it is just for ipod only..

I've been searching high and low for this, but couldn't find any solution. My Sony CDA-CA750X has a Bus Audio In.

I tried to connect my iriver mp3 to the bus audio in. problem is i can't select Audio In mode. Only FM and CD mode is selectable. Anybody know how to override this, so that i can select Bus Audio In Mode? (that means try to fool the head unit thinking that the MP3 player is actually a CD-Changer or MD)

Refer Image for illustration.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Also, in the manual it says "This unit cannot be connected to a digital preamplifier or equalizer" .. does it mean i can't add preamp?

Thanks.

ok thanx. anyway , preamp is my last option. If i'm not mistaken, the player already has a preamp built-in.

prefer to find ways to connect mp3 player straight to the unit, since it already has an audio in. just need to find ways to hack it.. any help would be appreciated!

even u connect the mp3 player line out to the bus line in, u still wont be able to turn on the function..

there is a function to turn on the aux in...but, u need to connect the bus line out to some signal to tell the hu there is something connected and the aux in will be available in the function..

conclude:
if u just connect hu line in to the mp3 line out, u will definitely wont able to hear the sound because the hu haven turn on the function..and to turn on the function, u need to make the hu to sense the device..

older model of panasonic (made in japan) has 1/4 size aux input in front of the panel
i saw a few still being sold brand new at shops
i think for your case, this type of aux-in HU is the one you should look for
easier to plug. unplug your portable player

cant you source sony xa-300 adapter locally?
thats the easiest solution for your case

the mod youre talking about will be too troublesome
you need to design a device that acts as a mock changer in between you sony HU and aux source - sony unilink and signal at the inputs, then outputs to iriver
were talking about a circuit designing here
plus where are you going to get the unilink bus connector here?
but if youre up for it
try to email this guy - matt dralle
dralle@matronics.com
hes been playing with sonys and unilinks for years
his effort -

howiechoo, you're right, it would be worthless trying to mod the HU. I'm not even a pro to do this.

malutapimau, thanx for the info, i think XA-300 is the only solution. I'll try to look for it in KL. listed price USD 99, so here should be around the same. If you know a place, kindly direct it for me.

mm they FM modulator i saw from "ViewNet" comes with the line in features " works like a AUX " but then it uses Radiowave to transmit the signals or data. so the quality is not as good as the original AUX connection . but then it will definitely solve your problem.

all you need is the audio cable which connect your DELL Axim and the FM Modulator . that cable wont cost you more then RM 10 i guess. you can even DIY your self if you have does un wanted headsets smile.gif

hope it helps smile.gif for those expert out there please correct me if i am wrong hehehe tongue.gif

cheers smile.gif

there is another FM modulator which doesnt need USB pen drive at all, just connect your laptop voice output to the modulator, and tune the frequency. tat's it .. just plug and play , the wire is included with the modulator , it cost you less than rm30.

guys, need your advice on this.

1) Im driving a manual Kancil & kinda interested to buy a FM Modulator to hear MP3 from my thumb drive since my CD player doesn't support MP3. But the problem is I dont know what's the real size of this FM modulator & after plugging in my thumb drive, I worry I might not be able to shift to the third & fifth gear as Kancil is a very small car.

2) Where to buy FM Modulator & how much?

Thanks.

in simple words, preamp is a EQ like instrument that is connected to an amp for us to control the type of sound we want in the car...like bass, treble, mid and so on.... whistling.gif

it is connected in between HU and amp, hence the name preamp....connection before output goes to amp and not after... icon_rolleyes.gif

i heard caliber is local cap ayam brand sweat.gif ...i also have one but havent use yet cos no amp rolleyes.gif ...preamp i think any brand will do the job OK..... wink.gif

correct me if im wrong sifus... tongue.gif

nah

preamp is not a correct device for tuning purpose
the only useful knob that i can find in a preamp is the sub-control knob

it suggest to get an active crossover instead

done this a few weeks back.

quality wise....damn good compared to FM modulators.

well....instead of getting those connectors from computer shop....i just go to jalan pasar to buy. they go sell in twos, threes, and fours socket connectors.

total cost to buy the material is rm7.20 if I am not mistaken. bought 2-female-RCA jacks that can be screwed onto a panel, 1-meter of black and red wires, 2-three socket connectors, and 1-strip of the metal connectors that goes into the three-socket connector.

won't work unless you have an amplifier. your ipod does not have the juice to pump up the speakers.

now using wira standard HU which has AUX function, no need to take out the face plate everytime leave car. (no one want to curi gua) blush.gif

Nowadays most HU include AUX function. Saw someone in forum selling Sony HU with front AUX cost only RM295.

1st question yes it work on preamp with aux in, my friend is using it
and in my car system i directly connect my handphone to the amp no preamp, cos my car no HU so i connect the audio jack direct from amp to handphone

2nd question, if ur mp3 player have those controle button like play and select button yes u still can control the player
cos if u use mp3 player to listen to music it become the HU edi

if u using the pendrive u need to get a FM modulator or HU that have USB support like those selling in brother

theres 1 DIY sifu in other forum i forgot what forum edi,
theres another alternative if ur HU dont have aux in but still can create an aux in connector. this including soulderin, its a great DIY and it works

if ur player have AUX in then just buy RCA to audio cable both male and buy handphone jack from ur handphone to 3.5mm jack(can get this acessories in the garage sale section just find kit_kit he have) just connect the rca to the HU aux in and the audio jack to ur handphone audio jack.

to all ice sifu's,

is there any shop within the KL/PJ vincinity in which i can mod my original car players to be fitted with a USB slot so that it can play mp3's directly from the player itself ?
If got also how much ?

i was planning to do on 2 of my cars for a reason.

1 - my accord has a weird shape for a player. changing players wont be possible. i looked at the one in brothers and was so amazed they managed to have a player with CD/DVD, USB slot and card slot as well for less than RM 400. unfortunately the shape doesnt fit my accord deck so i thought about modding it a little and fit it with a USB slot or card slot.

2 - my alphard came with an eclipse system. drove to KFaudio in Aman Suria , they told me if i tampered or changed my player it would affect the whole entire car. seems that the eclipse controls the GPs navigation in my car, alarm and power doors and many other things. They told me to mod it and just install a USB slot but they cant do it. They told me to look around.

Please help if possible.

Thank you.

i bought the cable to connect ipod to alpine. but this cable is custom made to have phone jack instead of ipod adapter..
i connected the phone jack to my N73 but my head unit wont switch to ipod mode (only CD -> Tuner)
I have tried with a mp3 player also, but still can only switch source between CD & Tuner

anybody know how to force the head unit to ipod mode?

this is the cable

The P80rsII (rm1700) + usb adapter (rm400, i think) can play HDD up to 250GB. I assume the Alpine 9887 (rm1200) and adapter (rm400) is about the same.
You might wanna check if something like a Pioneer 7000 series (rm900) can support HDD too.

Hi all I'm wondering if it's possible to just connect my car's speakers to a in-line cable into my iPhone without the need passing through an audio player? If possible, how much will it cost and where can I get the services to do it? Thanks.

i dont think aux is same as USB. AUX is for your mp3 players that has line out. u have to contact pioneer if they have a special convertor for AUX - USB, not sure if they have one tho.....

Is it possible to use alphabet search function in most usb headunits if we hook let's say a usb drive into it?

Alphabet search is similar to the 'Jump' (or shortcut J) function in winamp, where u can type the artist/song title to look for songs.

I heard that Sony has a 'quick browser' function but don't really understand how that works.

Thanks

hEy the pioneer cd player HU behind all is RCA. How do i connect the RCA to my car speaker cable. Do i need a Hi-lo convertor?
HU RCA > hi-lo convertor > speaker cable?

It is reverse mode.

1) from HU use this
user posted image

2) Then connect with hi-lo convertor to the male RCA
user posted image

3) From the hi-lo convertor connect to the speaker wire.

I wonder will it works? cause it is a reverse mode.

OR just use this is good enough ????

Hello,

I'm using pioneer DEH-5450, using AUX port to connect to my android phone. Since my music all flac files.

I think it's not enough power from my phone side and need some kind of preamp.
Any suggestion for this one?

look up jaben for amps

alternatively, considered just using mp3 and the HU as the DAC instead of the phone? charging the portable amp/phone would be a hassle id reckon (and carrying a portable amp around, unless of course you're a portable person and have iem's/earphones or earbuds around you all the time)

look up jaben for amps

alternatively, considered just using mp3 and the HU as the DAC instead of the phone? charging the portable amp/phone would be a hassle id reckon (and carrying a portable amp around, unless of course you're a portable person and have iem's/earphones or earbuds around you all the time)

This i sometimes use portable amp+phone then connect to HU you will get much better sound that way
jaben have a lot of quality amps you can choose
but yes it is a hassle unless like quaza said unless of course you're a portable person and have iem's/earphones or earbuds around you all the time

I have a Blaupunkt New York 800 HU for my Inspira. I got an 8GB Micro SD card and about 1200+ songs or so on it. I put the mode on "shuffle all" but for some reason it is only shuffling the 1st 150 songs or so instead of everything. The system detects it as I can see the songs in the list but for some reason it is not shuffling all. Anyone knows why this is??

Try ask your nearest SC either void warranty or not if changing HU.. from there you can plan your next action/plan..
