I think otherwise. With Celcom joining the game, I am sure Maxis and Digi will eventually come up with a revised data plan to maintain their market share for Iphone. Let's hope for that if not for them to improve their service.

I do hope that Celcom's Iphone is not as problematic as I've heard from Digi.

Mind sharing what is your plan, Eiraku?
*
It's the Biz P148 Gomen Servant plan (Ministry of Education):

Monthly Commitment: RM148 to be spent in any way according to the rates below. +RM2 for SMS pack (see below).

Voice: 10c/min any network (3000 minutes free within company - in my case, anybody affliated with MOE).

Video Calling: LOL not applicable.

SMS: 2c to any other Celcom number (SMS Pack), 10c anybody else, 300 free.

Data: Capped at 5GB due to FUP, no extra charges only throttled beyond cap. Thottle speed 10% of maximum (max is 3MB/s on a good day outside of KL lol). Extra volume purchases available.

Contract: 2 years.

In other words, it's like Celcom's Exec 250/Maxis' iValue 4 with even more flexibility (nothing bundled, all the monthly commitment becomes credit) and less cost.

The only thing comparable value wise is the iDigi 238 plan (which is 163 after rebate now). Shame Kuala Lipis has crappy Digi service coverage.

So, if any of you guys are using an iPhone on Celcom and are gomen servants, do inquire at your nearest Celcom Centre before they revise the plan.

BUT.... I have feeling that Celcom's top tier Exec plan is gonna be closely comparable in value, when you factor in the fact that I still have to pay monthly to Maybank for my EzPay iPhone 4 (118 monthly, 2 year contract).

Which works out to be about RM268 monthly all in for 2 years (after which I go back to paying RM150 per month), still cheaper then iValue 4 at RM375/year x 2 years (which nets you a free iPhone 4).

Digi's 238 Plan still wins though (due to the rebates) at RM262 per year all in (calculated over 2 years). But if you pay for Digi using EzPay (rather then cash up front), it becomes RM277 monthly for 2 years.

SOOOOO, IF Celcom's Top Tier Exec plan about RM260-70 per month (with the same rates as the current Exec 250 plan), with a free iPhone 4 32GB for a 2 year contract period, my current plan's price advantage will be insignificant.

IF. I'm thinking they will charge around RM300-350 monthly though.

Sorry for the TL;DR post. And do correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT:

The leaked plans have a P in them, which probably means that they're Biz plans. Personal or Exec plans should be slightly different.

So, if you manage to snag the Biz iP248 plan, YES it's CHEAPER by a long shot. At least for the first 2 years.

I wonder if they offer it for Gomen Servants.

Cheap... And damn it Celcom, no difference between corporate plans and personal plans? You guys must be really desperate to carve a slice of the iPhone pie.

So, anybody want my Friday morning slot? I'll still be in Lipis by then, school only lets up at 12.

And seriously Celcom, 488 for the iPhone and 248 per month? That roughly works out to be RM268.33 PER MONTH over a 2 year period (488/24 + 248), which is EXACTLY 33 cents more than what I'm paying PER MONTH for my outright 24 month EzPay MAXIS iPhone + P148 (118 + 150).

Only diff is I paid absolutely zilch up front. RM Zero. Plus a free phone I decided not to get and would turn into about RM20 worth of rebates every month for a year thanks to the P148 plan.

What you DO get extra is one additional GB of data (my plan gives me 5GB and it's RM36 extra for that additional 1GB volume purchase), some bundled minutes and SMS, the chance to get a white iPhone 4, RM100 worth of only god knows what and the priceless convenience of NOT having to queue up in front of a freaking Maxis Center in the wee hours in the morning for an outright iPhone 4.

Which is all nice, but not nice enough to make me wanna apply for leave on Friday lol.

But for everyone else, enjoice! It's relatively cheap, at least compared to the other Big Two.

Huuuhrah. Exec is different, and NOT as cheap as Pro plans. Still competitive though, noice.

Less reason for me to take leave though. But maybe I should get one for me dad heh.

Data is FREAKIN DISABLED? Need to go see T&C on the site, but if this is true even for the most exp. package (the Exec 248) then kesian lar new Celcom iPhone users.

EDIT: T&C on the Celcom iPhone page is not even working. BUT, it'll be really sad if it's true the iPhone packages are NOT subject to the normal Celcom BroadBand FUP (5GB and then throttle to 10%).

Well, at least there'll be no bill syiok.

QUOTE(c010 @ May 5 2011, 03:39 PM)
how much data you gonna use per month? have you ever check? i cant even hit 500MB per month (if i tether, then its a different story) :

1. Exchange email
2. Gmail
3. Whatsapp
4. Gtalk
5. Weather update every 3 hours
6. daily surfing average 15 minutes (seldom youtube)
7. facebook
8. if tether, max is total 1GB ++ per month
*
No torrenting, no hardcore downloading, no youtube, no FaceTime. Just apps (including HUGE ones in emergency times thanks to 3G Unrestrictor), surfing, mail, some remote AirVideo sessions, LogMeIn sessions (plus transferring stuff from home), on the road modding of system files, very infrequent tethering with MyWi (like 2-3 times for a few minutes) and other normal stuff.

My total monthly usage for last month is: 4.19GB. And that's WITH WIFI at home lol (for large app downloads), and with me CONSCIOUSLY watching my data usage (thanks to DataCounter, GREAT JB app by the way, best data management app I know of).

You see, my main problem is I never really use home WIFI to surf when I'm in Lipis (I don't even surf with the computer much lol). I mean, it's always saturated with my constant downloading AND it's slow at 1MB to boot (max Streamyx speed here in Lipis).

And I surf a lot. Really. Plus all the surrounding hotspots over here are either shit slow or government firewalled. Also, Celcom 3.5G runs at the advertised 3mbps over here, so I can't really switch back to a snail's pace now can I?

So yeah, I need that 5GB + ONLY throttling (for emergencies). I'd be more happy if somebody offers REAL UNLIMITED Wireless Broadband, but that's still very much a pipe dream at this point in time.

But that's just me. Everyone else should be more then fine with 2GB.

Then your best bet will be buying the phone only, subscribe 5+1 plan (RM15/mth) and add unlimited data RM98 /mth. I was considering this as well but havent yet gauge my monthly data usage. BTW, facetime only by wifi right?
*
Alternate plan. Phone only + P148 plan. Yeah yeah it's SUPPOSED to be for government servants/large corporations only, but people bend rules, right? You just need to ask the right person lol.

Or register using your wife/mom/friend/soulmate/scandal's particulars.

BTW, I'm already running this set-up for 2 months (Maxis iP4 outright + P148 plan, and no, I didn't do it under somebody else's name). Just watching this thread to see if the new packages are any more fun.

And yes. Facetime is ONLY for WIFI... IF you're not 'broken anyway. brows.gif

Exec 148 not for government servantlah.. public also can. I think celcom package is a lot more'fun'. Except the part of data cancelling on excess quota usage.
Out of topic, regarding facetime, (consider 'broken'), the app My3G in Cydia works for video call to other phones is it? Never tried it, did it work for you?
*
I was NOT talking about Exec 148. Sigh.

I'm talking about the Celcom Biz Power Tools P148 Plan. Haiyooo.

Anyway, there are many apps that enables FaceTime use over 3G. There's My3G and FaceBreak and 3G Unrestrictor (which I'm using). 3GUn seems to work best from my research, tho I never really used it for FT, it's to trick AppStore into downloading above 20MB apps mainly.

O is GPRS brah. And yes, our esteemed iPhones have weird signal issues, really. Full bars where other phones have 2. And yet NO BARS when other phones have full lol.

its quite good in terms of coverage...

prob is if it loses the 3g connection you will be totally disconnected.

then u need to reboot to restore your connection.
*
That is NOT normal mate. I JUST lost my 3G signal just now (it went to EDGE). A few minutes later it got back on HSDPA/3.5G just fine on its own.

Location specific interference/network congestion problem?

About the 3G disappearance thing, my theory is some of the cell towers around KL/Penang/Klang Valley are old but reliable, so it has yet to be upgraded to match the iPhone 4's (or any iPhone for that matter) agressive type of network searching/switching. Even more so with the amount of traffic that Celcom Broadband/data has.

Some of the outlaying areas with more recent 3.5G coverage have newer towers and hardware, which means that they should have no problem. Plus they have much less traffic, hence less of these problems.

This is also why, a couple of weeks back before official launch, I did wonder out loud if Celcom's cellular infrastructure was adaquate to handle the hit coming from mass numbers of data bullies (iPhones) coming online at once. You guys have to keep in mind that unlike the other telcos, Celcom has NEVER officially offered the iPhone before this, and they might have to re-optimise their network.

Something Maxis/Digi most probably have done post the 3G/3Gs years.

That being said, I have had my fair share of weird data disconnects, but a hard reboot (hold power and home button until the Apple logo appears) usually settle these issues promptly.

Shah Alam (and dare I say most of Klang Valley) is chock
full of CelcomBB users and now, new iPhone users. Network data congestion is pretty much assured.

Subang is even worse lol. Most of the time I need o switch to EDGE to get any decent surfing going - 3G woud just timeout.

In rural areas celcom 3g quite good
*
In Lipis, 3.1Mbps is the highest recorded speed I got so far (and last I checked, that's about as fast as Celcom goes as they don't have 7.2 HSPA+).

Funny that it's faster then the fastest landline connection over here lol (1Mbps Screamyx).

btw, how to test the censor? sorry.. i'm a noob.  blush.gif

It's sensorS actually. Prox (test by calling someone and covering the part just above the ear speaker with your hand. Screen should turn off) and ambient light (test by putting iphone into full brightness with auto on and place it under the table or where it's dark. Brightness should turn down).

Check that and snap some pics and take video. That should be ok.

Even my iPhone 4 is my second actually. The day I bought from Maxis TTDI, my first unit had a tiny scratch on the metal ring (the antenna), so I asked for a new unit. The nice guy quickly opened a brand new box for me.

I was lucky, as my phone was already activated lol. Plus the fact I was buying outright and you can say I was actually VERY lucky to have them help me like that at all.

Still no one answer question 1 and 2.
*
Num 1 - No idea. I'm on a diff package, with which the 5% still applies. Go call Celcom.

Num 2 - If you mean remove the sim card then use in modem it should be ok.

Num 3 - You can tether using BT/USB/WIFI. No tethering charges that I know of, but keep in mind, tethering = a LOT of data use. If you have a 2GB/5GB cap it should be fine.

How come tether will consume more data?
*
Mobile device = mobile net most of the time. Much less bloated crap elements like flash stuff. No huge file downloading.

Tethered to a PC = full internet with bloated everything (including Flash) Bigger possibility that you will download large files.

Enough said.
