The height for my new house family room at upstairs is about 20ft, with plaster ceiling completed by developer.

Definitely have maintenance problems such as cleaning and bulb replacement. Avoid it at all cost.

if you have in-built some cabinets in the living room upstairs maybe put those flourescent lights behing the cabinets.. hanging lights or fan on that tall ceiling is surely going to give headaches (like mine!!)..

what about those hanging lights where it hangs on the wire and drop down to your desired height (adjustable)?
That way, you can have easy maintenance. Only thing is the cleaning of the wire/cable which you can use a vacuum cleaner to reach as high as possible. |

QUOTE(Lilian78 @ Sep 21 2010, 11:00 AM) The height for my new house family room at upstairs is about 20ft, with plaster ceiling completed by developer. Why not try hanging lamps. That is quite a trend now. Also, they could be hang lower (easier to maintain) and changed to energy savings bulbs too. Add some wall lights at sides (change to energy savings bulbs as well) with white lights instead of yellow-ish. If this does not do the work, add a standing lamp by the corners of the room, change to energy savings bulbs again. Sure this will do the trick. If placing the lighting at this height (20ft), I am worrying the lighting maintenance in the future Do you all have any idea to solve this problem? |

Yes, I am thinking the hanging lights too..That way, you can have easy maintenance. Only thing is the cleaning of the wire/cable which you can use a vacuum cleaner to reach as high as possible. The normal height of a room is about 14ft. If using hanging lights, then about 6ft of cable will be exposed in between plaster ceiling and light. Is it will look weird? |

Some cables look quite nice. I dont think it will look weird. Besides, your light will hide the cables. The only thing is it might collect dust which you can use a vacuum cleaner to clean it.
