You're not depressed, moon yuen.

You're just bored to death being posted far away from your hometown and your boyfriend, having to depend on your sucky internet connection to get a decent amount of distractions just to get by another day.

If I were you I'd spend more time volunteering, spending time with orphans or giving away free tuition rather than to search the net for something to blame.

You are correct ! Bored to death ...

But , the problem is I m suffering insomia now, can't concentrate on anything I m doing, forgetful, wan to isolated with
everyone else.......

My place is very very small place (50+pupils whole school) , giving free tuition won't occupy much of my time....
Actually, I plan to do so.... Giving free tuition on next month... But, here don't have tuition culture. So, I don't expect much.

Do u feel urself useless / self hate ? Always think negatively ?

(I do suffer depression last time)

Well, I can share you story about someone who suffered from major depression. Insomnia, can't focus and feeling wanting to isolated with everyone else can be one of the symptoms

If you are strong enough, and don't wish to give up yourself, I'll suggest you to find someone to talk things out. Grief over everything that is bothering you. First if you think you're bored to death, then take 2 pieces of papers, one list down things that you want to do/ you like to do or anything that can make you feel happy; another one list down what are the things you do that make people around you happy. Then do it one by one then cross once it's done. After both lists are done then repeat again the same thing.

When I suggest you to talk things out to someone, it doesn't mean that you talk to people you know, you can share it with someone you don't know. You don't expect any answer or advice from people, you need to understand it that you're the one who can find the answer for yourself. If you feel like crying or screaming, then just go ahead to do it. But remind yourself that, you'll only do it if it makes you feel happier. If not then don't do because it's not going to do any good for you.

If you can't focus at work then set a small goal for your work, achieve it then set another one immediately. If it's at home then same thing. So you'll be working on your goals rather than unknown what you're going to do next. Sometimes it sounds easy but if you're really putting your feet in doing this, you'll realize it's not that easy.

Depression isn't any shameful thing, basically everyone feels depressed, but it depends on individual how to handle and manage it. Not every patient needs to go through psychiatrists and take medicine. You'll just need to have a positive mindset that in yourself for everything that you're facing, then you'll be able to overcome it

I don't think i need to post up links on how to cure or prevent depression. You can easily search it online. The best thing to do is to find someone to talk to. Keep yourself busy and try to upgrade yourself with new skills or sharpen your current ones. When you feel productive, you will feel less lonely because you'll know ur strong and independent. I hope this helps you.

like what others said, get yourself busy.
if you think you have depression, then most likely you are not having depression.

anyway, if you really want the symptoms of depression, this is what i learn.
- extreme sadness/misery/loneliness, self-blame, sense of worthlessness, absence of pleasure, changes in sleeping and appetite, easily agitated and retarded motor symptoms.
- also, difficulty in concentrating/making decisions and inability to get motivated.

and to be diagnosed as depressed, you have to have those symptoms either severely or prolonged. and not due to a specific life experience.

from what i understand here, you're not depressed at all. tongue.gif

I agree with u ....

I try to keep myself busy by washing floor, wash clothes, doing household... But, I really found myself useless at this young age, being so free !! Shouldn't I busy at this young age ? Frankly, here is rural areas, is near impossible for me to busy unless I go to "potong getah" or "pick durian. "

U know , here the people is so free , the old man sit at outside looking around only...

Depression in malay is "kemurungan".

I was depressed last year, didn't go out from my room for 2 weeks (except for toilet of course), didn't talk to anyone. Felt worthless seeing all other friends have succeeded, and you're still stuck being nowhere when in the past you're better than them. Felt very lonely as well.

Your guide to depression.

Quote from Anthony Robbins:

"In order to be depressed, you have to view your life in specific ways. For example, if you wish to be depressed, it helps tremendously if you collapse your shoulders and look down a lot!"

Ms Moon Yuen,

So envy to hear you are so free. I am greatful if I were you having the time.
Anyway, I've seen depresssion people get better.

Concentrate on your hobbies. Sometime you can turn your hobbies in to a money making business.
What's your favourite hobbies anyway? Mayben can guide you to earn a living from there.

I like designing, I I have been submitting design at competition. With computer you only need Keyboard, mouse and some software like Ms Paint or Ms Power point to do these stuff.

BTW, where is your location and where are you from?

are u a teacher? posted to a very remote area?

if u are a teacher mayb u can spend more time with your students?

give free tuition is a good idea, but on top of that, u can conduct other activities after school hours, like playing games, or go for a walk, or go to the fish market and do a 'belajar sambil melawat' thing... use your creativity smile.gif just get to know them 1st, one by one, by spending time talking to them and understand their family background, their personality, their situation and etc. and once u get to know all of them then u will know what they like.

if u need ideas, can search the internet, google the word "games for children" or "activities outside classrom"... something like that

u can try this by starting to do things like this with your favorite pupils 1st , once u got the hang of it then u try to reach out to the naughty/ unfriendly ones...? I hope u dun have naughty/ unfriendly pupils but i do realize its hard to handle them... u may need lots of experience... so beware and dun let them climb over ur head

i was once an assistant to a sunday school teacher... i was a big advantage to my teacher, bcuz im quite big sized tongue.gif and the students all scared of me... so the naughty ones also dun dare to be naughty liaw laugh.gif
anyway i love the kids though... they are very cute smile.gif

It's ok to be depressed.
It's a state of mind rather than a disease.
unless serious depression of course.

go outside, get a hobby, make new friends, exercise more, communicate with people, socialize, and you'll be happy.

TS,try to talk with your friends n family members as well.u need their support to be healthy again but of course everything still depends on you,the key is in your hand.hope u'll get well soon icon_rolleyes.gif

How to cope with person that's depressed?
I've been thinking long about this question, because I think my mum suffers from depression, just that she didn't realise. To be honest, she's affecting me, and I don't know what to do, and I think I'm getting depressed because of this too. any good advise?

hi missceamypie,

you need to be by your mum's side whenever she's depressed. do not judge and do not ask her "not to think so much" (though this is the tendency for most ppl to advise depressed souls).

it is not their choice that they think too much ... being depressed it's not a choice either and depressed cannot help but be depressed for whatever reasons there are. as someone who knows the depressed victim, you just need to lend them your ears and heart because it is at this moment that they need someone whom they trust to listen to them and possibly console them.

try to understand what's causing her to be so depressed helps. most ppl who are depressed just want to release their tensed feelings to ease themselves... so listening and caring and understanding is the best help you can offer them

Occurs when eg far away from home or loved ones . Those study overseas should be lonely so far from Malaysia
Most of time depression starts from loneliness and uncertainty
