PSP2 is Real, Developer Claims
Sony's next PlayStation Portable device is real and powerful, one developer claims.

Speaking to Industry Gamers, Netherrealm Studios Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick reportedly said on record the team has "PSP2" when asked about the team porting its upcoming Mortal Kombat title to the current PSP.

"We're not launching day one on all consoles like that," Himmerick said. "We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we're looking at the engine, like what can it support.

"Always a big thing for us is the performance," he added. "We're running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We're definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine. We don't have a 3DS system in house yet, but we're looking to get one, and we'll certainly look at what its power is."

Sony has declined to comment on the report. The latest rumors say PSP2 may have touch-sensitive controls on the back of the device and could include phone functionality.

I hope psp2 got backward capability and upgrade graphic when playing previous titles..
Actually I dont mind the design, just few things want to make it clear.
1. Make it easier to go and play online
2. Security better so only original games are available
3. 2 analogs
4. Buttons for L2,R2.L3 and R3
5. Better graphic chip/card
6. Larger HD screen.

Try to put yourself in their shoes (Sony), do you think they would give us everything in one handheld? They could, but they won't. Look at the PS3 for example, they "removed" PS2 backward compatibility in the PS3 Slim but they could easily run PS2 games using software emulation, yet they didn't do it? Why? It's all about the money, if they allowed us to play PS2 games on the PS3, it would affect the sales of PS2 which is still in production.

Maybe they will use RSX Mini in psp2.

Let's hope they fix their mistake PSP1. Seriously the sharing of processor is too weak for most games, since there's snapdragon around, assume they'll use that processor and nvidia tegra or another snapdragon for graphic rendering as graphic controller.

That's IF they could make PSP2, a phone + psp combo.

if can run blu ray and bigger screen... Two anolog stick..Clearer image almost as good as bigger console... I think no one will whine about great game on psp anymore.. If that happens.... Sony can surely beat Nintendo in no time... No doubt.. Its gona be a new history of success for Sony.. So, ima gona wait till PSP gen2 comes out before buying any new PSP...

3d wont be coming to psp2, not in the nearest future, at least
cos the only portable 3d without glasses are technology form TI (texas instruments)
and if company as big as Sony make deal with them, it will come out on Wall Street Journal.

and if they include 3d, they need to make touchless interfaces available too, and thats asking way too much costs, cos other phone company also will be getting the OMAP4 chips
the OMAP4 is freaking powerful, 1ghz processing power, full hd, 20mp camera, multi OS compatible, bla bla bla (search for the specs yourself )
and every effing next gen phone will be getting it

Im guessing what PSP2 is, a self developed super powerful graphic powerhouse that exceeds the OMAP4,
so that consumers will not hesitate, something like "why would I get a PSP2? just get an OMAP4 phone le...more worth for money, can do pretty much everything"
what Im predicting is PSP2 = PS3 portable, or close to PS3 at least.

Sony wont merge phone with psp, not because they cant, but the dont want to.
Just stop and think, phone market easily is one of the fastest growing tech, with short life cycle.
and sony already got sony ericsson division.

if they merge phone into psp2, sure they can take some market away from phone market,

psp2 shpuld compete with things like ipod touch rather than iphone.. meaning stay true to gaming device, or make it a little bit more to multimedia device rather than integrating phone function into it..

but imho, PSP2 wont come out in 2 years
on a basis that they needed to make the system powerful enough,
but the cost cant exceed or be same as ps3, and thats a very hard thing to achieve, which can only be remedied by time

they have to reduce pspgo price, and further mark down psp3000 price to occupy the lower segment
and ppl are expecting backward compatibility too, which come to a hard decision whether to discontinue older psp
or how much longer they wanted to support the psp platform

so, if developers take one year to develop new games for psp2, that will probably land the psp2 somewhere around early to mid 2012

theres rumors some developers already have a "sneak peek" of what psp2 can do like Mortal Kombat producer Shaun Himmerick did,
you know, to prepare making games and all,
so, when november comes, they could start working on it ASAP

these are just rumors, but surely will be confirmed when november comes.

and guess what if FF13 : Agito runs exclusively for this... i will buy this w/o even thinking twice lol

cos Kaz Hirai already said they wont abandon physical media, and this one looks like it doesnt have umd drive from the specs.

and one more thing...keep in mind, no more psp games will be developed after this, sony will stop selling psp1 sdk at mid november

but dont fret, maybe the new sdk will force developers to develop games that are both compatible with psp and psp2.
I also dont know what sony is thinking, its a mess

but it says codename "Veta" would be release(yup, release, not announce) at the end of 2011, which could be psp2.

I read it somewhere that it uses Nvidia Tegra 2(somesort of that).

The one by SE is NOT PSP2. It's just a phone that play games. Possibly PlayStation branded. But that's another device altogether so I'll leave it at that.

As for PSP2, developer already have seen it. News I read from Kotaku says the screen will be in HD (HD or FullHD is unknown) and due to higher resolution, it will also be slightly larger hence resulting a slightly larger device. There will also be something like a touchpad at the back of the device. Sony themselves does not dictate what it's for. It's up for developers to decide.

And yes, there is a second analog stick.

Hope Sony can decide the PSP2 is a gaming device first, and the rest later. Don't neglect the gaming aspect for other functions like it happened to PSP and PS3.

i think if they running on tegra 2 it will be cool... because i saw the CES... phone running on nvidia tegra the game really got high quality graphic, can cross platform from pc to ps3..no ipad though.. well, for the phone la.. it save energy, and wun overheat... its a piece of great technology..If this is the case I think we do not need to doubt about getting a psp2... but, i sure will miss UMD disk.. sigh.. too bad can't play my UMD games on higher quality console..

I guess we have to wait for E3 or sony's own conference..

I thought PSP2 and PSP phone were two different things. Like what Nokia did, 1st it was N-gage by them, then the newer generation phones were capable of playing N-gage games as well when they stopped the production of N-gage. They'd make more money by this way, don't you think? A phone with with older PSP-gaming capable and a newer handheld gaming device, PSP2?

Let's just hope Sony don't f88k up with this one.

Also, I think la.. if any studio want to HD-fied their PS2 games without adding in too much feature just only visually, then PSP2 is the best platform dy.. I expect to see a rise of PS2 remake on PSP2.. A marketing strategy also...

Building PS2 games in a blueray disc is really a waste.. cuz most of the game took at most 4gb to 6gb... I speculate.. That is why we rarely see PS2 game on PS3... while many for the psp.. Although not very HD la.. I think if MGS is true.. They going to add in many things inside.. But given their story and also if they make it like MGS4.. well, it can take up pretty much.. make sense..
