QUOTE(Yeobster @ Jan 25 2012, 01:51 PM) yo aimank..got pic? i dont hv any idea how the mucus lokks like. is it some kind of white spot? Thanks Yeobster!Added on January 25, 2012, 1:58 pm holla Einjahr..peacock bass need good water oxygenation since they like to swim at middle n bottom of the tank. u also need good filtration to cycle the water and keep them clean from all type of waste including bad bacteria. hope this will help.good luck. kinda makes me wonder how they adapt so well to our unused ponds and lakes, i assume they are a hardy species as tilapia... but thanks for the insight. |

QUOTE(Yeobster @ Jan 25 2012, 08:45 PM) my fish also got same prob before..few hours after added some salt..the 'mucus' start to peel-off from their body.. cools, i'm planning to install this setup outside and trying to replicate the real stuff, So there's enough space for the little buggers to swim around...Most welcome! our ponds and lakes are different thing..their ecosystem totally different from our thank..haha the challenge is to build our tank as perfect as their ecosystem.. i also thought that peacock are hardy as tilapia..at first i put 2 peacock in a basic top-filter tank..few hours later they are taking breath at the surface just like tilapia..tomoro morning 1 of them RIP! immediately instal the air pump and he survive and healthy till now.. |

QUOTE(aimank_88 @ Jan 25 2012, 10:52 PM) but an indoor tank is damn cool hey,its the showcase of the room.An outdoor pond is prolly alot of work but finding the right location is another thing babe. And too much sun, then you'd have an algae problem, but certainly looking forward to the day i can throw critters in and my monsters will devour them up! lol This post has been edited by Einjahr: Jan 25 2012, 11:49 PM |

QUOTE(PIMPIN @ Jan 27 2012, 12:01 PM) hey thats sweet! thanks for posting pictures... ive always wanted a natural setup, but still couldnt get around the pond-without-a pump setup.. unless its big enough. youre so lucky to have a natural water source, no pumps, no filtration needed... just make sure no gars escape though This post has been edited by Einjahr: Jan 27 2012, 12:14 PM |

QUOTE(Yeobster @ Feb 4 2012, 08:28 PM) lol no, the steel tank is another much bigger project I'm planning. The sad experience I had with peacock bass was in those standard size aquariums where i just used the standard top down filter which i think is quite inadequate. I think it has something to do with the water quality in the aquarium i setup, i assumed ( like you said ) that peacock bass are hardy but i notice in the pic above that there's a different kind of filter+pump used, so just hunting down for more info about that to make my plans more fool proof. |

QUOTE(Yeobster @ Feb 5 2012, 06:41 PM) its the submersible pump that pump the wter into sump tank maybe..thats why the water is so clear. basic for filteration is to have the pump capacity double or triple the amount of the water in the tank at least. check at ur pump..how many liter/hour it will pump the water. then only go to your filter mechanism. u might need mechanical filter(foam) and bio-filter (bio ring etc) and carbon if needed for chemical filteration. DIY your top filter to hv 3 slot to put all those thing or get ready stock plastic top filter(that have 3 or 4 slots and works like sump tank) at ur nearest LFS. it shud work. btw the tank that u used is it brand new or used one? if its a brand new, ur fish died maybe because of 'new tank syndrom'. there are a lot of bad bacteria in glass silicon.to avoid them..just rinse with clorox n clean water. leave it dry under the sun for few days n can start to cycle the water..test with feeder fish..if they survive then ur tank is now ready for ur monster. thanks ! really appreciate it! all-i-have-to-do-now is just to convert that for a 300 - 400 gallon steel tank setup, i prefer to see them swim freely with loads of space to move around. cheers |
