In addition to what babyk said, unlocking means to unlock a phone which is locked to a particular telco, eg Vodafone in Europe.

Take for example the SE V800, it can be obtained for a very cheap price provided you sign a contract for eg 12 or 24 months with Vodafone. But the V800 obtained from them can only be used with a Vodafone SIM card. Therefore to use it with other network providers, you have to unlock it.

can choose any midi file that u want and babyk will use it to replace ur hp original sms tone..mean the original sms tone will gone after being replaced but will available again if u flashed ur hp~ wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif so mean u can replace all ur sms tone..about 6-7..depends on ur se hp model:)

AFAIK, you decice which SMS tone you want when you flash the firmware.

If you want to change the SMS tone, you have to reflash the firmware.

ATTENTION: Unlocking CID36 phones and flashing CID36 firmware will be slightly more expensive than CID29 phones smile.gif

the price for unlocking will be RM80 and flashing firmware will be RM50

this is due to SE CID36

My V802SE was unlocked and flashed with the Z800i's firmware. It performs better than the original V802SE tongue.gif

I think it is a CID36 ... for side effects i meant unlocking as well ... cause shouldn't the proper way of unlocking is to enter the unlock code based on the IMEI ?

By the way, for z800i firmware upgrade what kind of extra features will it have ?

no extra feature on upgrade firmware coz you are not doing customization on it. unless you request for extra customization service.

if unlocking is by entering the IMEI number as u say so,then there will be no ppl like me to do unlocking phones dy loh...if things so easy...then all ppl no need to suffer to work liao loh and just sit at home sleep whole day and eat whole day right?

well what i'm trying to say is that "will it spoil the phone in anyway ?" ...

how is the unlocking done besides entering a valid unlock code ? do you jam the circuit to mess the logistic and thus make it useable for other networks ?

i'm just wondering ... it's just like when you are trying to "crack" a software, besides entering a valid serial number, you could crack it with a patch or something .

i suspect u from Penang ?? just feel like a fren of mine on high school.

btw, it won't be any "side effect" after unlock or debrand on the phone..

if you mentioning the unlock the phone like since u get from Aus, i think u will be lock in network 3. Then if u wan to go back to Malaysia, u have to unlock it and use it like maxis or digi network. Actually you can telephone to 3 network to unlock ur mobile using a series of code. that the simplest way but you have a pay a huge sum for 3 unless you have been for 1 year or more then 3 will release or unlock the phone for u in no charge.

There is some "Mr Nice Guy" come out this genius unlocking device which will not need any special soldering devices to unlock the mobile. They come out like software or unlocking clips to unlock the phone is more simple way .. so it's won't harm any to your phone and it work as well as others.. same method and more simple stuff.

That's for unlocking, and now debranding the firmware, which is changing back to more original stuff that we want .. Mostly on European side doesn't have Chinese Firmware, so we can't see any Chinese SMS or typing Chinese Characters to other ppl as well. Therefore a firmware upgrade to let us have more specialize for ppl like us. If you get newer firmware means less bugs and better graphics and phone performance. Maybe you could say the side effects are in the Plus side, not in Negative side. If you flash the new firmware and you still in Australia, maybe i can say you have just void the warranty.. simple... just 2 my cent, hope you can understand..

If I'm not mistaken the process to remove all the T-mobile content from your phone and to flash your phone with a new firmware is called debranding.

first of all...can you use it with local malaysia SIM card like DiGi and Celcom? if can,then it's not locked

the firmware is customized to T-Mobile. to remove it,i have to fully flashing the phone. to make it back to normal phone like original nokia's smile.gif

Yesterday, my brother took his nokia 6630 to the NPC at uptown to upgrade the software/firmware, but they change the whole motherboard also. Is it true if we want to upgrade the software/firmware we have to change the motherboard too. Please reply as soon as posible.....

Unlock - Bringing foreign phones that are locked by the telco there and you want to use it with the local telcos here, the only way is to unlock the locked phones.

If you buy the phone locally, it's unlocked smile.gif

As I said, if you import a foreign phone, most probably it's locked and you need it to be unlocked.

Enjoy playing with your new phone. K700i is definitely a good unit!

babyk,
i just bought a t-choice w800i and the lack of searching for names function is driving me crazy. If I want to search for Michael, I cannot do like nokia phones, type M followed by I then C. In W800i, If i key in M it will go to all the M names, then when I key in I , it will go to the all I names.

I heard Euro version firmware has this function. Can you help??

I'm in Penang.

errr i own a nokia 6260 got some probs like pressing the "C" button for a few times will cause an error called App. Closed MCE and now my Themes folder in my menu has problems. If i select it it will show an error message App. Closed PSLN.. someone suggested i updated my firmware.

after seeing this post i am rather confused.. what is "flashing"? and could someone explain to me what firmware is really about? really a newbie here XD
