about the weight, E7 really heavier than N8, can feel it on your palm. but about the durability, I dont think there is much diff between E7 & N8, since both using same coating & material. & the sliding part doesnt affect much unless it was on open mode lol ~
*
The force acting downwards of an E7 is higher than N8. That's an obvious fact, giving it a higher impact (impusive force), giving more damage to the phone (considering both are equally durable in terms of material, designs, so on and so forth)

N8 : 135g
E7 : 176g

F=ma

F : force
m : mass
a: acceleration

Force N8 = (0.135g)(9.81m/s)
= 1.32435N

Force E7 = (0.176g)(9.81m/s)
= 1.72656N

N8 should be more durable when being dropped. rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

good try on your attempt at elementary physics.
but you failed to consider that size of e7 is bigger, so the force per area is almost the same.

lols, pressure?

Pressure = F/A

F: Force
A: Area

hmph, I don't suppose you can drop it flat down right? unsure.gif
arh, whatever larh. Nokia phones are among the most durable biggrin.gif
So, don't worry biggrin.gif

normally when you drop a phone, it will be on it's edge (slipped out of your hand? whistling.gif) so surface area doesn't have an effect in this calculation.

Anyway no use calculating. Maybe N8 got thinner materials than E7? rolleyes.gif

E7 is supposed to be an upgrade to the communicator service. Go try. For the price seems quite worth it smile.gif

Hi sifus, I'm interested in buying the E7.
How good is the free OVI maps? I frequently drive around Kelana Jaya, PJ, Subang and Damansara. Is the OVI maps suitable for use there?

if u frequently drive arnd those areas, then there is no need for OVI maps.. doh.gif

comparing to other cellphone gps solutions, OVI maps is very good value for the money.
considering it is free.
but if u are a travelling salesman to all kinds of towns and places, get yourself a dedicated GPS.
use OVI maps only in emergency cases.

Perhaps I didn't word it correctly, what I meant was that I frequently go to these places but only if my friends are driving because I don't know my way around those places blush.gif

Are you saying that the E7 can't replace a standalone GPS? I was hoping that I can kill two birds with one stone and buy one device that combines a GPS and a phone. sad.gif

How about Garmin? Is the software compatible with the phone?

Well, that really depends on your satisfaction level.

Garmin can use MalFreeMap which is updated quite frequently (each week if they are still doing it at the same rate). OVI map is rather outdated but still okay for usage in modern cities. Navigation wise, I would again rate Garmin better as more detailed map allows you to avoid traffic easier by driving through housing estate for example.

What software?

OVI maps is free. If you are referring to Garmin XT, actually Garmin havent released anything for Symbian^3 although some report that the old Garmin XT 5.05 do work with S^3. You can download MalFreeMap for free by Googling for it.

The map data is somewhat miserably upsetting. Don't expect too much from OVI Maps.
I did still prefer Garmin over OVI Maps.
You can install Garmin Mobile XT into Nokia E7 smile.gif

Not sure if this question is valid but need help because I am not familiar with nokia or Symbian...

Is the switch between 3G and wifi automatic? Meaning the E7 will automatically switch to wifi where there's signal?
Thanks.

symbian allows you to choose what type of connection is allowed and also arranged according to priority.

OVI maps is free..but if not mistaken everytime it loads the map will incur data rate charges..so beware..

garmin is better because the map is built in and only data charges is if A-GPS is enabled and that is not so much charged.
