for 850 u probably shudnt think about speakers n subwoofers yet

juz get a good HU with usb support. sorry i cant recommend any specific model (not up to date haha). when i upgrded my myvi head unit to an alpine 9873E (~rm850 la with installation + the mount thing) last time, it was a huge difference smile.gif i dun think they sell that model anymore

i will suggest u save up more, then install compset n 4 channel amp together.

next will be sub woofer, final would be ur hu if u want.

why want to change ur hu now since u got a tight budget.

Ur budget already can buy a decent compset new or used, but not enuf for both compset n amp. Another 1k for amp should be good enuf.

When u want to buy both, remember to check their specs whether suitable or not.

I suggest change the head unit first lor... cos i also have a myvi (2009) and the sound system sux la as usual...

Last month, my bro got his new car, so he give his Sony XS-GT6938X 3-way coaxial speakers to me (it's quite new). Link--> SonicElectronics

I thought that since the Peak is 400watts, the base sure damn nice.. but now the sound is even WORSE! cos the Myvi original head unit cannot pump the base at all.. max also +5 only.. the base sound like ppl knocking a piece wood.. really crappy..

Even the ppl in the work shop who install for me said that the sound will only be nice if I change head unit..

(My bro transferred his Sony head unit to his new car.. he only give me speakers -.-)

My uncle, also got myvi...he changed head unit only, and the sound is quite nice... If i know i change HU only... =.=

Now wanna take out also cant cos already got 2 holes at the back.

Anyone know any good head unit? what brand? good price... pls lemme know.

Myvi stock audio ain't suck enough.. But it's suck BIG time like most of the local manufactured cars..

U will have to change the HU, together with the HU panel 1st, then only talk about the speaker, as a entry level RM850 is more than enough to get a decent HU, a 2-way component which required another door panel also can bought into ur consideration, that would be another budget around rm500

LOL My budget for the HU is only RM400.. don't feel like spending too much. After all I only wanna be able to hear the bass. My bro said he got his sony HU for about RM300+. The sound is not bad.. good enough for me. And i'm a student.. hehe.. a bit hard to press my mom's ATM buttons tongue.gif

If change a head unit and use back ur original speaker, i dun think it can improve ur car sound quality.

If change a new speaker ( 4inch speaker on dashboard or 6inch mid bass in rear door ), i also dun think can improve alot the sound quality.

Cos 4inch speaker mount on the dashboard, it is dun have a good enclosure to your 4inch speaker, so it have a short circuit problem to the sound acoustics.

My suggest is change a 2.5inch fullrage speaker with passive crossover, and custom made a a-pillar work (make a enclosure) to ur 2.5inch fullrange speaker. It will improve ur sound quality from mid range frequecny till high range frequency.

I know this is an old thread. I just got my myvi this year and wanted to change the car audio system. My budget is around RM1500, but i'm dont have a good knowledge on car audio system. I wish you guys can advice me on what brand, shop and any idea's on how to do with the audio system. I was planning to get

-2 front speaker
-2 back speaker
-1 tweeter
-1 amp
-1 woofer

I listen to almost all kind of songs, depends on mood. So i would like a well rounded sound system that can support all kind of songs.

Thank you in advance.

*
hmm.. your budget is just like what I have 3years back when my budget is only 1k.. so if you dont mine having cap ayam although the SQ is not superb but its consider not bad. I have a JVC HU I think bout RM199 last time( I cant remember ) so this is what I have

-HU ( JVC )
-1component set( Scorpion brand )
-1 4channel amp( I dont even know what brand it is)
-1 woofer( Scorpion too )

But I dont know whether this cap ayam brand still exist although the AMP burned after 1year of using.

P.S: Still using the JVC HU now but I change all my other things.

To whack the bass kao kao... your car will definitely need 12" and a suitable box. JL come into mind, and pair it with a nice amp.

But, how you gonna fetch the rims..... ? huh.gif

I would suggest Kenwood KDC-U449, WMA/MP3/CD/USB Receiver with iPod Control .. it's quite cheap.. if I'm not mistaken, the price is less than RM400

Well, clarity improved by a lot compared to stock speakers. There's a slight bass from the 4" Alpine also (what to expect since the speakers are so small) but better than the flat sounding stock speakers.

personally, i think those alpine is something good to START with, and NOT UPGRADE TO.

and by start with, i meant from your stock speakers. of course, various make of cars have various levels of stock speakers. however from the general perspective of proton/perodua, this should apply without a problem wink.gif

if u can afford, the hu is something that you should consider upgrade together...but if you wish to do step by step, speaker or hu will give u 50/50 ratio on performance gain. so choose either 1. For me, i would change speaker first as the stage and imaging will be a lot more better, while changing hu will only give u better sound but stage and imaging is still bad...

U have same situation as me. I would say replace the spks first and use amp to drive those spks. Some branded spks are power hungry and dun sound nice unless they are amped. Besides your stock Clarion HU only has 30W x 4 output power at 4 ohms.

hye guys what is the different between 2 & 3 way component? is it true 3 way component good for people who doesn't want to install a woofer? i'm thinking to upgrade my myvi speaker not that to high end speaker that has a 12" woofer maybe just a component speaker for start.

- Is it 3 way component, amp and a decent HU good enough for my car?
- do i need to change my rear speaker for a better passenger sound
- do i need to change my 4" coaxil speaker?

thnx smile.gif

- subjective
- rear speaker are for rear fill, if you want to prioritize on back passenger, you may need to upgrade it
- depends on how good you want your sound/ICE to be

2 way component = tweeter + mid bass (which also handles the mids) + crossover
3 way component = tweeter + mid speaker that is usually placed near the tweeters + mid bass which only handles mid freq bass (basically 1 more speaker, separates the mid/mid bass unlike 2 way) + crossover

usually if u wanna change speaker no matter 2/3 way, the oem 4" spk just leave it. no need to touch on that.

3 way component are not meant to ppl that dun wan sub....it's more to "closer to audio nirvana"...3 way can make your system sound better especially on mid range....but provided you got a right setup..simply setup will make it worst than a normal 2 way spk.....

- i believe there's really less ppl use more than 3 way for car. so 3 way of course is good enuff...
- for most people that carry peoples, yes of course.....dun too selfish to upgrade only front...(if you got the budget)
- not necessary but it depend on your goals...if you just need slight better sound, then the 4" can be replace with good 1..

How much do you plan to spend on your ICE?

I audit a Myvi before - 2 din HU, 4" compt set and 1 woofer... very nice sound also.

Just decide how much you plan to spend, then things will be easier to recommend.

its depends on ur requirement
- do i need to change my rear speaker for a better passenger sound
if your setup is decent, front stage good enuf for all the passengers to enjoy your music
- do i need to change my 4" coaxil speaker?
i think u meant by front dash 4" coaxial, if u get component set, then you do not need this.

thnx  smile.gif

its depends what u want tho,

2 way component speaker comprises of tweeter (playing 2-3k hz and above) and mid woofer (playing from 50-60 hz till 2-3k hz)
3way component speaker comprises of tweeter(playing 2-3k hz and above), mid range (playing from 500-600 hz till 2-3k hz) and mid woofer (playing from 50-60 hz till 2-3k hz)
a woofer is always a woofer, playing very low frequencies from 100 and below

each got their own duty... it doesnt matter about 2 or 3 way, most important your setup should play from 50hz below till 12k hz and above.

our car is the hardest environment to play ice due to lotsa things that obstruct wavelength, so some ppl put 3 way to counter the problem, 3 way definitely got more flexibilities but also harder to tune.

if you are not prepared for some big money and time used to play with the icing process, then you stick to 2 way better...there's some spk can sound more than 2 way eventhough it's 2 way.

Hi guys,

I'm planning to get a component set for my Myvi...
my current setup is Kenwood DDX4058 + Kenwood Sw1 150w active sub + standard front & rear speaker....

I'm planning to get a component set for my Myvi...
my current setup is Kenwood DDX4058 + Kenwood Sw1 150w active sub + standard front & rear speaker....

compare the speaker side by side only if you want to know which 1 better. Human are not that good in memorizing sound.

Thats the problem...cannot compare it side by side since one already installed in car + amp...
the other was demo unit in the shop without amp...

zennn,i've also listen a few demo units in that shop such as Pioneer,Rockford Power,SPS but so far SPR is the best among them...

i've also see a lot review about Focal 165V2 but haven't listened to it yet...
it will be good i can try other speaker as JL,Focal,Morel, etc before i make the decision....
but i don't think i can make it since it hard to people that using it here in Kedah....
so it will be better if there is someone that has used this speaker to give some advice...

by the way,i also play a Symphonic Metal song...
orchestra+hard guitar+double paddle drum...as Nigthwish/Epica/Metallica S&M
so the setup should be SQ + bass, right?...lol

A good Chef uses the best ingredient to cook meal for their customer.
At the end of the day who do you think the customer looking for ,the Chef or the best ingredient???

just a though.think about it...

If i were in your shoe ,I'll go looking for the good installer.not brands.why?
a good installer know what is best for budget.

Suppose he has identified the best "Chef" available reasonably close to his location. He still needs to choose ingredients, right?
I think that is his question.

Maybe the best installer has good tuning skills but lacks product exposure. Bringing in products from outside your state might alleviate that problem.

Its been a while....
Below are the modification i've done so far.

1. Changed my HU to pioneer 6350SD ( with sets of equalizer to play with)
2. Added underseat woofer

Result:
1. HU provide more sound clarity than the stock HU.
2. Provide nice bass but not heart pulling type bassing (Im not a bass head, but it really amazed me after i installed the underseat woofer.)

Put a hold on upgrading the component 1st, might change car soon very soon >.< will upgrade again the component to DLS r6a set if my new car plan doesnt work out.

Krayden,u are right...for me i'll search and study before i go and buy something...i would like to try all options that i have before i can make decision...yes,that shop was good and have a good lineup too...but i still feel that i need to ask some opinion/advice/offer from sifu/friends/forumers that hv an experience in this field...i'm not in hurry...

junfu, the underseat active subwooder indeed will improve the soundsystem in the car especially Myvi...by just adding it,you will have not really deep bass but just a nice boom...(but i still want to add 12"sub to my car later)lol...

When you went to all these shops for testing, did you listen to the same song?

You can ask for opinion, but in the end you will still need to listen to it yourself before judging.

... and also, a good installer makes a hell lot of difference too.

@MastorJr:

if you have the time, you could probably read up my thread here: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1157391
or other threads such as the recommendation thread/brand recommendation thread.

if you would like to take it further, i would suggest you to join TTs, even if it means driving down KL. im sure some of us here are glad to arrange sessions with you depending on our (and your's of course) schedules.

as for a 12" sub for a myvi, you sure you want to go for that? trunk space is already limited as it is, and putting 1 12"sub (that is properly sized) will take up half your trunk. that said, you dont really have much air for your sub to push around either, so your bass response/deepness will take a hit from that.

take it from me, i drove long distance (such as singapore, penang especially since i can still drive around after offloading) with trunk loaded with luggage, suffocating my sub woofer. and needless to say the bass is, quite weak haha. after we offload our stuff at the hotel, the sub starts to come alive again haha

MyWifeCar, yup at that shop we play the same song with diff speaker...
but only 4 types of speakers...hope will have chances to hear from other speakers to claimed more to clarity...is there any TT session in Penang?lol
Last week went to MeanMachine,Autocity and saw a lot of car set for SPL...
yea, should hear it for myself so i can judge it by my taste...maybe later if i got some matter to do in KL i'll just let u guys know or do you guys always do a monthly TT...?

Hi Quazacolt, after read your thread,i don't think i'm on the same level as you...i realised that u has been poisoned too much..lol...right now,i just want to have a decent setup without really huge budget...estimate less than 5k but stage by stage...(really thin pocket here)...later if not satisfy with this setup the i'll decide whether want to go deeper or not...

Anime music..?i got the collection too...really love Gundam Seed OST...
My future plan for the 12" sub is i'll mount the amp to the sub so they can be remove-able...whenever i need to use the whole trunk,i'll takeout them both...is it possible...???
but my car's trunk always empty...

i was at penang late september for this:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=45624418

late november going down singapore. so far no plans for penang again tongue.gif
we dont really do monthly TT, just whenever we feel like having one then someone rajin will organize lol

and really, im not really sure what you meant by "my level". because quite frankly, im still at entry level, just started my journey. the only difference i have than the majority of the rest that started out is i didnt go for chicken brands, and i have a complete ICE system.

if you can budget less than 5k (lets just say 5k), whatever i have you can EASILY have the same, if not better. my entire setup is pretty much exactly 4k. you got 1k budget to spare somemore if you're budgeting 5k into your ICE.

as for your trunk, the sub can be detachable as it is without special amp mounting lol. its just 2 cables connecting to the sub, thats it. i got it easy since i got 2 tool boxes and the top hinge thingy to keep my sub in place without need of bolt-ons or velcro. and if further trunk space is needed, i just pull out the sub and thats it lol.

huh, really want to try the Focal,Morel, Boston, JL & etc but that mean i need to go to KL...
By the way, can 4 channel amp support component + 12"sub ?
(maybe for next year budget)

why not?
if you read my thread, i am using a 4channel supporting my comp sets + 12" ported sub

and just for the record, i did it step by step anyways as im not rich. hu + comps first, then amp + sub, then lastly door sound proofing

Below are what i'm going to do....

1. get active sub - Kenwood SW1 (complete) to fill in a bit bass to my system before getting real 12" sub bass
2. get a decent headunit - Kenwood DDX4058 (completed)
3. get a component set - still on going. want to try a few before get it...mabe SPR,Focal Polyglass V2,Morel Maximo or others. I try to avoid to just get it then later i'll regret n want to replace with new one.
4. get a 12'sub + 4chnnl amp - JL W7 maybe..lol...4 channel amp will support component + sub temporarily...(or should directly get the monoblock for sub)
5. get a better monoblock for sub.
6. do a soundproof for the car
7. Optional. maybe want to try P80 or get a better comp set...the older component will be put on rear door.

Maybe it will take me a year to complete all these stuff...long way to go...
do i need to improve the electrical system too...?

1. I would just save up and go for an amp and sub. Instead of going thru the active sub route.
2. I dunno about SPR, but Focal V2 and Morel Maximo is different level... V2 is higher spec.

Hehe...that active sub was the first thing i buy when i got my myvi since i really hate stock sound...it can improve the sound by just a small budget...i got it for rm250 only...

MyWifeCar, can you give review for those 2 speakers...
What is the strong/weak of those speakers and each speaker is more suitable for which type of music.
I listen from many genre of music.
from clubbing,orchestra,pop,rock,anime...
want to get a clear music from component...sub will cover the bass...

The W7 was always on my dream only...cannot afford to buy it...too expensive...
I'll buy it if igot chance to go to US again coz a lot cheaper there compare to boleh land...hehe...

Sorry, I didn't see the "complete" word earlier....

Actually I would like to reco German Maestro, but since you pick V2 and Maximo... I would choose V2 la, because Maximo abit shallow on the sound if compare.

BTW, how much you want to spend on the comp set?

From what I have read on wiki and forum, German Maestro was the the developed company from the MQ Quart...they also share some same product... http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki//index.php?title=PMB_/_MB_Quart ...so their product characteristic should be about the same, is it?

Hmm,after getting opinion from a fer sifus, still cannot decide which one to grab...really need to hear it by myself...for this comp set, my budget was around rm1.5k only...cannot more than that or my pocket will koyak...huhu...plan to go down to KL by next month or on Dec...

i agree on this.

1) active sub really waste of time and money. good comp set's mid bass (provided it is amped, if not, just bear with it lol) typically can handle the bass freq until you can save up for an actual amp/mono + sub

2) the good brand/recommendation (pinned) threads should give you the usual "lists" of brands/models. get their entry/mid/high end models according to your budget

3) joking or not, in a way i also agree, especially after a lot of explanation from sifus here, which are also in line with my own personal views. basically, w7 is jl audio high end sub. to pair a high end sub, you need a high end mono. guess how much that cost in minimum? (hint bare min of 3-4k lol!)

sub alone without box/installation etc is 2-3k+ IINM

if you have a weak component set, i can tell you that you're wasting your time as your sub will just over power the front completely, or are too underpowered as you dont have the amp/monoblock to drive it properly.

Thats maybe right but u still can't get a good component for just rm250...thats why i'm quite satisfy with it since you u got for what u pay...

Yup,already got a few list of good brand...just need time to go find and test it...

If u are talking about JLW7 indeed already know that u will really need a good amp to feed it...thats rigth, the sub is quite pricey here but if u go to US, u can get it for just 500usd...u can check in on Amazon...thats way i'm saying if i can go to US again, i'll buy it there...

but my focus here is get a decent component first before going for sub...

do realize the 500usd will be subjected to shipping & handling + tax and potentially + SIRIM bullshit.

and dont think you go US hand carry it back (i doubt you can check in a subwoofer LOL!) will guarantee you to avoid the above mentioned fees.

after all that, sub box? wirings? setup? if you can DIY, you could save a ton.

anyways as you said, just focus on a component set first.

I thinks u can bring it coz last time when i came back from US, one of my luggage was full with Meguiars stuff (was poisoned by car detailing) eventhough they said cannot bring any chemical into flight...u may cannot handcarry it but u still can put it inside your luggage...only the unlucky guy will be check by kastam,i'm considered lucky...lol
Since now i'm on ICE-ing, if got chance to go back, one of my luggage will be full of ICE stuff..lol...

Is there any ICE TT on North side (prefer Penang) or someone who has installed those stuff on their car want to show off or share their experience with me...i think now is the time for test/hear it rather than just talking about it...already exposed with a few SQ brand...previously only know Pioneer,Kenwood,Sony only...hehehe...

trade in everything plus your 2k and get a 4ch amp, a 6.5inch component set, speaker door mountings for myvi and a 10inch sub.

this will get u on the correct path for good sound quality.

my friend went to a shop near to his house at Jalan Ipoh and got a good deal on his Myvi audio system.

To be shared:
Boschmann Woofer with box - about RM300
AURA Dynamic Amplifier 4 Channel - about RM500
Speaker 2-way 4" & 6" with tweeter - about RM300
Wiring - about RM200

Those are the roughly pricing heard from him. You may get the lower price. smile.gif

My stock HU already go crazy. 10 years already Myvi. How/where arr to replace with new one? means, any suggestion to upgrade to basic one. Currently, speaker front rite, also not functioning also. Read through all above, so many versions/models not really understand sweat.gif
