Can we get SGS screen protector & casing in LowYat or digital Mall?
I had just replaced my super AMOLED screen, need a new screen protector.
*
I got my (cheap) sp from Digital mall. There's this phone shop called Venus on the hphone floor. You can't miss it... the sign is damn jeng. RM10 for matte protector. That's the only one they had when I got it a few weeks back. They also have a few cases. Also one shop under the escalator on the ground floor has a pretty slick SGS flip leather case.

Else, if you cheapo like me, can get Case Mate Barely There knock-off from ebay at USD3.00. smile.gif

Mayb v can post the link to google n c wat they say abt this site. Any 1 knows how to report, this site to them?

*
Post the link as in report them to Google? Didn't do that. I did run their URL (appbucket.net) through Google search and came up with pages related to complaints, warez and spam. Hence my earlier query on whether they were legit or scammers.

yea JM5's GPS was ok only.
Try JM7 + voodoo, i don't know is it me but voodoo seems to improve GPS dramatically

i tried GPS test app, got 8 to 10 satellites lock on with around 40km accuracy in 10 to 15 seconds
*
I posted my observations about improved GPS lock times with Voodoo a whiles back. And yup, seems that something in Voodoo (or more likely, the vanilla kernel it uses) improves GPS. However, as desirable as fast lock times are, it isn't the whole story. Aside from lock times, GPS also needs to be able to hold on to a signal and refresh your position quickly and accurately. This isn't happening in the SGS. People saying that GPS is awesome because they can get a lock on 5-8 satellites while standing still should try using My Tracks, record their tracks, take a walk around the neighbourhood and then post the tracks for us to see. Granted I have not done this, I feel this is a better measure of GPS performance and accuracy then merely quoting (qualitative) lock times. smile.gif

yup real environment test is always better. I've tried driving in KL using SGS's GPS, no problem. Haven't tried jogging though
*
Yep, I've driven around PJ/KL with Navigation [brut] guiding me. I can't really tell how accurate it is but it's good enough when used in a car. The more accurate test would be to use My Tracks, but really, I don't feel like going for a run after every firmware upgrade. biggrin.gif

This is like the same story all over again: GPS improvements aren't necessarily tied to lock times, and lag fixes can't be measured solely by Quadrant scores. tongue.gif

Mine can't read those Chinese characters as well.

Is yours stock? Not sure if it has anything to do with the FW version. sad.gif
*
Yes, language is tied to firmware region. Flash asian region fw if you want them chinese characters.

I agree with u 100% on the actual tracking performance. Mine fails miserably. It is not able to hold on to the signal well.  And it lags terribly when you're driving (If I'm walking, there is no problem)

As for locking on to the signal when you are in a stationary position, sometimes it is able to lock quite fast. Other times, it takes ages. This is especially true when you move to a new location and switch it on for the first time. (I am from Penang). It doesnt have so much problem locking on when I am in Penang. 2 weeks ago when I went to Perak and tried to use it in Lumut, it couldn't locate and lock in on the satellites despite in stationary position!!!!

I downloaded GPS optimisation from the market last nite which it claims improves the performance for SGS GPS. I did a short test while on the way to work this morning but doesnt seem to work. But need further monitoring to say for sure whether it actually helps.
*
True man. None of the fixes I've tried have given me any discernible difference in GPS performance, other than Voodoo (lock times only, actual lock-hold-track still sketchy). Newer firmwares *may* have some small improvements, I don't know. Nothing concrete from what I've read and experienced. Guess we'll just have to wait for Samsung to sort this one out.

Without rooting, can 'Get' or 'Buy'?

Dude might be referring to 'other' sources for paid apps. :\

The video shown on my SGS is broken, like if a video file is broken when you play it on PC, the picture was in banding of horizontal rows. Difficult to explain without a picture, but I can't screencap/record it either.

Just imagine it's like trying to play a broken mpeg4 video file on PC. Quite similar to that. But the voice was ok though, just video broken.

Aside from that, do you get pretty weak reception during calls? Most of the time, the other party was difficult to hear me either. I could blame this on reception, but if I'd to compare to my older phones, it seems to be appearing on this new phone.

Another thing would be the rather weak Wifi signal, at least as compared to HTC Desire. Not sure how many having the same problems like mine.  blush.gif

Like jujx mentioned, first thing you can do is to test your front facing cam. But if you're also observing weak reception (3G AND EDGE? or just 3G?) and weak WIFI, it may be a problem with your phone's radio (as in reception not FM). Better bring it back to an SC to have it looked at.

after thinking and reading much about voodoo I think I switch back to OCLF for the moment till froyo comes.

Holypredator not funny? hehe I took me a while to find it !  tried every option!
*
OCLF slows down after awhile. Voodoo is a battery eater. Both have trade offs.

If you are not using on-line data for GPS, why should you check "use wireless network" ? Can someone explain?
*
Easy, it's for aGPS. Getting a location fix from a cold start, is both computationally and power intensive - especially if you're not out in the open. It's pretty difficult to calculate your position from fragmented GPS signals. Hence, non-standalone GPS devices partially rely on cell towers (or some other wireless data source) to deliver orbital data AND to post position data snapshots to position servers. The heavy lifting is offloaded to the position servers to calculate your position before sending it back to you, saving you precious locktime seconds and battery life. If you dive into your GPS settings, you will find a server config (supl.google.com) which is the positioning server maintained by Google. Similarly, Nokia phones have a supl.nokia.com lookup server. And that's why you need to "use Wireless network" for GPS. smile.gif
