your right, out of the box iphone wins, i think samsung galaxy s still come with stock firmware out of the box, they really should upgrade it to DXJG4.
but the open source make it more genius people than sammy it self to help fix problems,

btw when you say it detect at shah alam, what maps/apps you use? google maps and papago never fail on me. but some weather apps, and compass really didnt detect me correctly
kinda old news sweat.gif  but still didnt see it though here in malaysia

I do agree the GPS on the Samsung Galaxy is poor. Sometimes it works beautifully without problems. However The satellite lockup is still slow compared to my HD2 and Nexus ( which is within few seconds). I was driving to KL one day and after I pass Sg Besi toll, I got a shock , the weather widget ( Beautiful Widgets ) shows I was in ROME !!! Geez, what a shock, after a few kilometres I see Kuala Lumpur registered on screen

And YES, if you want to use the Galaxy S better installed OCLF or Voodoo Lagfix - it boost its performance up very much

hi all,

i'm a 3 weeks owner of SGS and thinking of doing lag fix. upon trying to go into recovery mode, i just found my phone is one among the many unit worldwide that cannot get into recovery mode.

i know there are various method on the net e.g via adb recovery, but just to ask whether any of you here experience the same as me.

has it been discussed here before? sorry didn't go through all post in this forum, so many post  already cry.gif !!

anybody can advice me on how is the other easiest method to perform recovery? my firmware is DXJG4, is this the latest?

i fear that unable to go into recovery mode, if anything happen in the future (firmware crash, corrupt etc2) i can't recover my phone back.

Mine unit same as yours and I have the luxury of bricking it twice !!! It is very dangerous to attempt install other firmware but I have learn from experience and sharing with you tips.

You will read that you can go into download mode using ADB reboot download - YES , you can do that but the chance of a failed installation is very high , your phone can hang and no respond. When you take out battery or disconnect USB, you will see a logo of phone disconnected with PC. No matter what you try very difficult to restart it - it is BRICKED and best choice sent in service center - they will reflash rom for you

BEST way to ensure you do not brick phone is to do this method to have phone get into DOWNLOAD mode : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
It is 100 % SAFE and RELIABLE

Also learning from my bricking experience, before you switch roms again, you must redo above process _ NEVER NEVER use adb reboot download method

As long as you follow this, I assure you phone will not brick.

about the lagness.. I don't think its a big deal.. for me SGS has fast enough processor.. smooth.. before this I use motorola dext, milestone 1, milestone XT720, and also had try my friend HTC Legend.. for sure SGS more smooth and fast.. if using some apps to check the benchmark speed, SGS is in top 3 fastest android device..

Benchmark speed ranking:
1) Nexus One 2.2
2) Motorola Droid X
3) Samsung Galaxy S i9000

where Nexus One 2.1, HTC Desire and the other android device is below SGS... smile.gif
try to imagine if SGS with 2.2? flying I guess.. biggrin.gif

Whether one like it or not, the lag issue is a undisputed feature of galaxy s due to it using a internal flash drive. Phone great specs but letdown by this. Can easily resolve using voodo lag fix or one click lag fix

I have posted here before saying the galaxy s without applying the lag fix is a poor performer compared to my other nexus n even hd2 on android. Having these 3 phones I can see the obvious differences how badly the galaxy s fall behind the other 2 phones. With the lag fixes is better but still loses to the other 2 phones in file access, still slow at least by 2 to 3 secs
Gps is another weak point. I rarely use it, I prefer using the hd2 android whose gps pickup is excellent within seconds and accurate.

Program launching though slower perform ok when executed.
