i could swear the menus are pretty similiar for both ps2 and ps3. and i could swear both consoles have about the same ratio of local mutliplayer support

most non gamer parents buying for their kids, the main factor is COST. 5 year olds don't care whether they are entertained by a ps2 or ps3, so why should the parents care? so buy the cheapest console, so that more money can be spent on parents instead.
LOL. That is true...my 5 year old son enjoy his Lightning Mcqueen game (looks like a car, with a LED color screen on top, some buttons and you can move the car left/right to avoid some yellow lines...LOL). He even enjoy playing that RM4 KFC game with small LCD screen in black and white (i squint my eyes so hard trying to make out what it is!).Added on September 10, 2010, 7:54 am

PS2 is more than enuff for kids. But frankly IMO. PS1>PS2>PS3. Graphics has got better, but the game really hasn't. The PS1 is still the king of RPGs games.
