so for landed house, maxis will pull the fibre cable all the way from the nearest fibre distribution box to the house, is it ?

for high rises like flat and apartment, they use the regular phone cable instead , is it ? basically just replacing the modem la, like that ? i wonder whether my phone line can support 10mbps...

EDIT :

oh yeah, i would like to know the upload speed as well... no point download speed kaw kaw later want to upload gambar crawling like hell....

question :

is there a way to track our internet usage, i mean total incoming and outgoing internet usage ? does the device that come with the maxis home fibre service has the built in counter ?

i think usually home user normally get private ip address... only business user get public ip address b'coz they need to link it to their website...

uh .. i never heard home user given fixed IP... normally it is for business/corporate customer, coz they need the fixed IP to tie it with their web server....

finished installation at my home today..started at 2.30pm finished at 4.00pm... speedtest result very strange indeed... at my pc show download 9.5Mbps upload 0.5 mbps, but at my laptop and phone show symmetrical 9.5 Mbps (dl and ul)... using wireless perform better ?

weird, many said the wifi router got problems, while you say is faster than cable? did you do ping test? mostly dl/ul speed is satisfry, around 9mb++, but ping time is very high(this should not happend into fiber), the ping time even higher than 1mb streamyx...
*
mine is high rise, so the connection is using VDSL modem not the ONT..

ping time to maxis server when i do the speedtest.net is around 30ms

reading this thread i can safely assume that if your installation is on landed property, it will be a FTTH and your ping to local server will be around 10ms.

if your installation is on a high rise property, it will most probably be a FTTC and your ping to local server will be around 30ms.

speedtest.net test will vary from device to device. so do test using 2 or 3 device for your maxis home fibre service. i don't know what happened to my pc bcoz it is giving me 10Mbps/0.4Mbps (dl/ul) speedtest result. my laptop gives me a symmetric 9.5Mbps (dl/ul), same goes for my android phone (using speedtest.net app)

also i notice the internet connection for wifi connected device do get disrupted (hang, loading take long time etc) after a while. not sure if it is coz by heat issue, or whether you have to reconfigure it so that the wifi channel is not the same as or near your neighbour's wifi. happened to me last night, i had to relocate the channel to use channel 13 becoz few neighbours wifi are in the region of channel 6,7 and 8. after changing to channel 13, everything back to normal for the wifi connected device.

Should i cancel my steamyx before the installation date or i can do one the same day or after the maxis install the fibre?
*
not sure about streamyx but for my Jaring it require 1 month notice. but I didn't dare potong that early becoz I was not guaranteed the installation would be a successful one. yes you can potong on the same day of installation but whether it will be potong on the spot or one month after you have to ask streamyx.... in my case I still have to pay another month for before they completely potong my service...

info for those living in high-rise.. : FTTC

I wonder, how TMNUT will response about this. Keep their VIP 5 (5mbps) remain for RM 139 whereby Maxis 10mbps only RM 138. . Now feel Screamyx 1Mbps RM 110 is totally overprice. Good job you bloodsucker TMNUT
*
aye .. i thought unifi VIP5 rm149 ?

What to do with my Maxis 10mbps? Current usage: day time, no usage. Night time, 1~2 hours surfing + the other half streaming PPS...
*
i myself not a heavy downloader as per say... but my daughter watch youtube everyday, i my self also do sometimes, also once in a while my game does a heavy patch that require huge download, so 10mbps is just nice....

OR.....

you could lease your WIFI to neighbour without internet... lol... rm15 a month... haha
