Help me decide what phone should i buy. Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire???rclxub.gif yesterday i almost brought desire, but when i go maxis store at the gardens, the store said no stock. prior to this i am bias to desire for unknown reason.

probably the 1st smartphone i test drive was htc then were WoWed by htc, then when i goes to test drive SGS the wow factor is not that big. But today i go check the hardware again and began wake up and fairly compare both phone, now SGS is leading abit in front desire... lol

Please give ur opinion which phone should i choose, help appreciated.... icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

SGS vs Desire (pros n cons)

Processor -1Ghz hummingbird vs 1GHz snapdragon. SGS win... hummingbird 3d performance better than snapdragon.
Outlook - Overall SGS nicer look than desire (my personal view). But SGS have plastic view. Anyway desire have rubber feel... if have feel like iPhone 4 then is winner lor...
User interface - Before this i like HTC interface much more than SGS 1... now both also ok la.... but i have a feel htc sense nicer than samsung touch ui 3.0. more developers for custom ROM for desire (DecaPix)
First inpression - probably i being demo'ed by staff themselves when i go thru the phone. Whereas SGS i able to feel it myself at maxis klcc booth during pc fair at august. But just the phone and me i am browsing myself so the wow factor was not that big.
Andriod version - desire OTA 2.2 vs samsung 2. but i sure 2.1 wil update soon. 2.2 coming out end of this month (blu3fuzion)
video recording - 720p 30fps (blu3fuzion) for SGS i not sure 2.2 desire got anot
internal buildin space -Maxis set is always 16gb (blu3fuzion)
warranty - Desire 24 months win over SGS 12 month.
Screen- SGS super amoled
battery- SGS 1500mah vs 1400mah. SGS battery can tahan 1 day and a half of normal internet usage and some games.
others - basic feature likely I had known and weighted it already

Comparison link
- here
maxis package - here

tethering - desire v2.2 got. SGS need apps to tether (VinluV). Tethering is built into SGS, mobile AP, no need to download apps for that.(MYstombox). SGS getting tethering end of this month when Froyo 2.2 is out. (blu3fuzion)
live wallpaper - both have live wallpaper

I was about to ask you post in recommendation thread but I will let this topic stay for two reasons:

1. TS made a lot of efforts in research
2. Two of the phones are top-of-the-line model from HTC and Samsung, so it's more interesting to make this comparison

Processor - Not just 3D performance, overall the SGS has more raw power, but it is held back by poor software implementation by samsung.
Outlook - Not really matter to me, as i will surely use a case on it sweat.gif
User interface - Desire win in this one, and I believe it got more custom rom? hmm.gif
video recording - 720p is available for desire too I think. But when it comes to video playing, SGS wins.
battery- Previously I think SGS did better since they got super AMOLED(power saving), but then now desire is installed with SLCD and HTC claimed that it is more juice-saving, so...

others:
GPS- SGS still have problem with this, although it can be improved, there's no official fix yet.
Touchscreen- The multitouch of SGS is better than Desire's.
Flash- SGS don't have flash, and you might need it while clubbing? tongue.gif

So basically it is like choosing an EVO or mazda rx-8 sweat.gif one with raw power and one with software support.
But I will pick SGS as long as the GPS is fixed, so I am waiting for the 2.2 to release, see if it is fix smile.gif

haiz....me too having this big dillema, because of the both phone price are quite in the same level. So it is so hard to make a decision out of it... but anyway, since desire 2.2 were release and the galaxy were not, i think better for me to wait for galaxy 2.2 release and do the comparison again...

simple only
do you play alot of 3D games?
if yes then Galaxy all the way

if not then Htc la
the snapdragon is fast enough for all other stuff
i even underclock it and still fast enough

more developers for custom ROM as well tongue.gif

dont worry bout the GPS issue, as i read somewhere that there a fix coming, official fix from samsung...Galaxy S should be getting 2.2 sometime this month according to some Samsung official, at least in the UK, IINM...

if you are planning to use your phone for a very long time, then choose Galaxy S...the CPU+GPU is powerful enough for foreseeable future, well at least end of 2011...also the built in 2GB which can be used for apps without rooting...
main thing that put me off is the price RM2599 for non-contract is kinda steep and also the built quality, well at least for me...

in my case, i bought Desire mainly because of Sense features (which like what hTC claimed, more people-centric, rather than concentrating on apps), and i'm totally in love with their People integration with social networks like FB (although again there are some pretty pesky bugs)...

another main factor: planning to get a dual core CPU phone tongue.gif , thus i choose to buy the cheaper alternative....

oh yeah, SGS do have live wallpapers...

wait Q4? too long time la... i just wan buy a phone and settle it for at least 2 years...

if i buy SGS i hope the software can longer lasting and software and custom rom will continue to develop if not over then on par with what desire achieve from time to time

if i buy htc desire i hope the htc desire can support andriod gingerbread or even honeycomb.. and not be phased out coz snapdragon behind hummingbird...

xproc : you have done your homework and make out a good comparison. Actually only you yourself can decide. There is and unlikely will be a perfect phone. Just decide based on which of the phone features are more important to you.

In life there is the 80/20 rule. If product meet 80% your expectations, it is the right product . Unless you have resources and is not a restriction, get both and sell off one after test over a week or two.

SGS vs Desire (pros n cons)[/u]

Processor - Top of the line processor amongst android phones
Outlook - If you care about the plastic look, get a casing that makes it looks more firm. ie. Casings from Case-Mate
User interface - If you really care about UI, just root and edit yourself leh.
Android version - 2.2 coming out end of this month rclxm9.gif
video recording - SGS got 30fps video recording. That is an attraction point for me
Internal Space - Maxis set is always 16gb. And like me, I +32GB microSD, now I have 48GB brows.gif
warranty -
Screen- SUPER AMOLED. Enough said
battery- SGS battery can tahan 1 day and a half of normal internet usage and some games.

And fyi, SGS getting tethering end of this month when Froyo 2.2 is out. smile.gif

For me, I would go for SGS cause of the multitouch and gaming part, I'm using Legend which means no multitouch and not many games available for me sad.gif
