I found a very easy to follow and useful guide on how to fix your iPhone 4 (and other devices)
http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPhone_4 Seems like the iPhone 4 will be easier to maintain than previous generation iPhone. You can even replace the battery yourself next day if it spoils. |

If you're on the latest firmware, you can make sure it 100% disable gprs usage by switch off "Celular Data" in the settings
