I dont get it, which image?

OK here's what I mean. After receiving, answering, and ending a call, the iPhone automatically goes back into a locked state right? What I want when I subsequently unlock it is for it to display the Home Springboard screen (first attachment below). But instead it always shows the phonebook screen (second attachment). Not really a biggie, but I find that the iPhone has lots of small things that bug me.

Are you sure this is the defect? I try both my set (DiGi set) & my wife set (Singapore set) both also have this 'issue', i doubt this is defect. Anyway you can try to claim for warranty, no harm to try.
*
No la I never said it's a defect. I just wanted a way so that the beautiful homescreen would greet me instead. tongue.gif

If it were a missed call I would understand the logic behind showing the recent phonebook screen, but this is a call I knowingly answered and ended, I don't need to be reminded the next time I use my phone. In fact, if you have a missed call and you slide the bar to unlock the phone, it doesn't show you the recent contacts screen and brings you straight to the homescreen instead. Sometimes I dont understand how people design things.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset network setting

Seems like you're the only one who doesn't suffer from this particular bad design. Are you sure you don't have this problem? Do you understand what I posted? laugh.gif

So are you using this as reason to claim warranty? Tell us if you have successfully done that, perhaps i should do so  tongue.gif
*
LOL oh no I'm not claiming warranty because of that laa... I'm all for consumer rights but that's going a bit too far. laugh.gif I'm claiming warranty because I am unable to make outgoing calls (incoming and SMS is working fine).

Anyway, with all the network questions flooding the thread now, I'll add another.

When you guys turn on cellular data and 3G, are you immediately connected to the internet? Can you surf the web immediately after turning it on? Because I cant, I have to wait anywhere between 2 to 5 minutes before I'm actually really connected. Wifi connection is immediate. On Digi here.

OK I've identified how to tentatively solve my iPhone unable to make outgoing calls problem. Basically all I need to do is go to settings > phone > Show my caller ID. The 'on/off' icon will not be displayed at first, and there will be a loading icon (the circle) instead for a second before the 'on/off' icon appears. It's locked at 'on' so I cant change it, but simply going in there allows me to make calls again. Reboot the phone and the problem will come back, so I have to go to show caller ID again. Hardware or Digi network/simcard problem? I've already changed the sim card three times.

Why turn on n off 3G n cellular data ?
*
Does it happen to you too? I'm just trying to ascertain if it's an iPhone defect, "feature", or Digi problem.

Can you register for a US iTunes account and pay using your credit card VIA PAYPAL? Meaning, I attach my credit card to the Paypal account, and then in iTunes, I choose Paypal as the payment method.
*
Nope, you will still need a US credit card.

Only way around this is to purchase gift cards.

Actually, I need you guys' opinion on this.

I'm trying to get a replacement for my current iPhone 4, because of one problem I have. Whenever I reboot the phone, I will not be able to make outgoing calls (incoming calls, and SMS are fine). I will then have to go into settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID. Simply going into this setting without changing anything (it's turned on by default and I cant change it anyway) will return my outgoing calls ability. I don't know why this happens. It's a bit annoying, but trying to get a warranty replacement seems even more annoying, so what do you think?

Other issues I have with my iPhone:
- When I turn on Cellular Data and 3G, the 3G icon appears instantly on the statusbar, but I will not be able to actually surf the web or connect to the internet immediately. I will have to wait 2 to 5 minutes before I'm actually really connected.

- Signal bars occasionally drop to 1 or 2 bars. In addition there are loads of areas where I only get EDGE and not 3G. Probably Digi's problem and not Apple's right?

- There will sometimes be some lag when flipping screens in the springboard, and also when scrolling long settings pages (like settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars).

The main problem I described above I'm pretty sure it's an iPhone defect, since I dont see it happening to anyone else. The other three... are perhaps "features" of the iPhone 4. What do you think?

P/S: My phone isnt jailbroken.

My piece of advise .I been watching over your phone problem since you post over here.
Im really sorry on that phone problem.I will try to help as much as i can on this brother.

Issue 1.
Since you cant make outgoing calls, the suspect is your line(digi is your carrier i assume).
Last time i had this same problem where call failed and unsupported network from Maxis(customer complained alot).
So i did my own DIY for that phone.
Simply restore back my 3.1.3iOS (iphone2g) and walaaa, its no more.
p/s: unlock only.no JB
Maybe you can try that method since yours is Digi set.

Issue 2.
Signal bars problem. All iPhone 4 having this problem from the 1st days its launch.Holding while making calls, will reduce your signal bars.Apple still looking for this problem solution.
Since its made of metal barrier,so cant help much on that.Seems the barrier metal are surrounded and its functioning as Wifi,Edge,Gsm and UTMS.

So my advise, try to restore your firmware back to iOS 4.1 and look if the problem still presist, get your phone back to Digi for replacement.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I'm on Digi. I've changed the sim card 3 times now, and the outgoing calls problem (Call Failed > Call Ended) is still there. Probably not Digi's problem then? And I'm on iOS 4.1.

About the signal bars, I'm using a silicon case, so reception shouldn't be a problem anymore right?

some qoute from apple it self.
and some link for you to ahead on this : link

so now you clear about your phone.its the phone defect sometimes.not only you having this problem.
go to DIgi store, bash them up kaw kaw on your problem.
Ask for phone replacement.

But before that, try to restore the phone using the same iOS 4.1 .If not get it warranty covered from Digi

Thanks much

Hmm OK thanks. I already tried restoring once, don't think doing it again will improve anything.

Btw you have an iPhone 4 as well right? When you turn on 3G, do you get internet access IMMEDIATELY? Or do you have to wait for a little while before you can actually connect to the internet? I asked my friend and he says it's immediate, but I tried his iPhone and it takes a while too, although he said usually it's instant.

i dont have iphone 4.
coz i dont want to spend my cash on that phone for time being.
i just had ipod touch 4g,which is similiar to that.

btw, previously for temporary i was using iphone 4(brother after he past away recently).
i can get instant connection where ever i am.

hmm, since you already tried to restore, try setting->general->reset->reset network settting

if no hit me back
*
Very sorry to hear about your brother.

I just reset my network settings, and I'm able to connect instantly to 3G now. Many thanks!
EDIT: It's not working again. Gotta wait more than a minute for it to connect. This only affects 3G/EDGE, wifi is OK.

One more question, do you know how to set Safari to use Google Malaysia as the search engine? Currently it's using Google UK.

Well that adds a shortcut on the home screen but what I want is to be able to search google Malaysia from within safari. If there's no way then it's yet another oversight from apple.
