Voted for reading haha. My main purpose of getting the iPad. Kindle was pretty much out of the question here in Malaysia, while the other e-book readers like the ones offered by MPH didn't appeal to me for varying purposes :/

Also, my bf wants me to stop reading (real) books... At least in bed tongue.gif The backlit screen of an iPad would be better for my eyes, he says.

I thought the backlit of the iPad actually will strain the eyes when too much reading?

I initially bought it for the sole purpose of note taking. Been there, done that and it did not meet my expectations. From my experience, I would say note taking on the iPad sucks. Big Time.

However, the iPad is awesome for digital reference/reading purpose. I just pop in some reference documents I use for work and carry it everywhere. Been very helpful in some of my meetings and discussions.

As for leisure purposes, my 4 year old loves the games Labyrinth HD and Isaac Newton's Gravity HD. CineXplayer has been very helpful as well, since I don't have to convert all of his favorite pixar/disney animations movies. It plays xvid flawlessly.

On a different note, I just bought a new house and in the process of furnishing/renovating it. I now use the iPad to carry out ID discussions with my ID consultant. Instead of having to carry loads of ID magazines, I just bring my iPad which I've filled up with ID photos i like from all over the internet. It has been very helpful, indeed.

For the note taking, is it the setback due to the screen keyboard which have to type one by one??

When I buy it, it'd be for..

Work
- Presentations
- Sketching
- Photo / Portfolio

Leisure
- Ebooks
- Online News
- Recipe browsing
- Online Chat
- Facebook

I know I can do most of this on a netbook or notebook but a netbook screen is too small and a notebook size is a bit cumbersome.

Either way, I guess we can say that we all bought the iPad for a reason. There's just no one fixed reason why we got an iPad tongue.gif

I'm not so sure about the backlit screen actually harming the eyes more... I still actually prefer the traditional feel of books... XD But I do read on the iPad as well.

Yes... Hate it specially to bring the bulky laptop... And worst, the lousy waiting time for the OS to load

Why no option in the poll for games? I think the iPad is a great device for games. And I find myself using it for games most of the time.

My other uses include video watching and reading, mostly using the NY Times Editor's Choice app and NewsRack for my RSS feeds.

The apps in my dock (Safari/Mail/NewsRack/Flipboard/Twitter for iPad/Social) are my mostly accessed ones, which gives an indicator of what i mainly use my ipad for.. It keeps me occupied during my daily commutes to/from work and it's the best way to browse the net while away from the desk (in other words, everywhere!)..

I dont use it much as a productivity tool.. The screen real estate available on the 27" iMac is irreplaceable when it comes to working with spreadsheets & documents..
