Form and confidence. He has always struggled after an injury to get those back. Just like the other times, it will come sooner or later. He's been like this since around March-April last year? Last game I thought he played well, just he wasn't threatening goal wise. But keep that form up, and his confidence will slowly come back. Getting goals here and there would help.
I'm looking forward to the league cup. Smalling, the twins, Obertan, Ando, Gibson, Macheda, Hernandez, probably Bebe and a few more from the reserves being involved. It's been a good playground for us these past few years ever since we took it a bit more seriously while still retaining that youthful team.
Keep Rooney fresh. He might need the confidence boost, but we have Bolton, Valencia and Sunderland next all away in a space of just a week. Rest him tonight. His overall play was good I thought against Pool. He just need to smell blood in front of goal again by scoring a few times in successive games. That would help.
And the likes of Macheda, Owen and Hernandez need games to sharpen them up. What better game to do that.
Not really. It's still early in the season, and you know how high Rooney's stamina is. So, I dun think it's gonna be a problem for him. And we all know there is only one way to get his confidence back.

Normally i would agree but you have to consider our schedule in the upcoming fortnight.. Many tough games coming up. Is it really worth the risk?
IMO, no. We need him just as we need Berba these days. If he doesn't score he'll throw in some good passes and work rate. Plus, his presence instills fear into opponents.
We should start the fringe players for the league and FA cup. Clearly, our priorities are BPL and UCL.
Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes insists the Premier League giants will not be taking the Carling Cup lightly.
While some clubs use the competition to give their younger players valuable first-team experience, United will be going for the win.
Scholes knows the Carling Cup creates one more chance to play at Wembley and the 35-year-old is keen to win as many trophies as possible.
United take on Scunthorpe at Glanford Park on Wednesday and it remains to be seen whether Sir Alex Ferguson rests his experienced campaigner.
Intensity
"You do get high intensity games in the Carling Cup and maybe in other countries, cup competitions are not as important," said Scholes. "But it is in our nature to want to win every game.
"Winning trophies is all about getting to the later stages of competitions and having big games at the end of them. We want to win this, just as we want to win every other tournament we enter."
Scunthorpe are 15th in the Championship ladder this term and Scholes is expecting a tough clash in North Lincolnshire.
"Scunthorpe are a very good team at home," he said. "Anything can happen at places like that so I just hope we can get through to the next round."
I dun think 1 game extra gonna be that huge impact. Fitness wise, I dun see any problem there.
Maybe one game wouldn't make a difference, but if he plays in successive games in a short period, while it may not exhaust him too much early on, will take a toll later on in the season. After this we have Bolton, Valencia, and after that Sunderland all away in 7 days. If fit, he's likely to start all 3 of those, especially since we have to catch the red hot Chelsea
Anyone notice that Rooney's through passes always anticipated by defenders.. frustrating to see that really... sometimes I would prefer him to hold on to the ball more and do less passing... But yeah, he does instill fear into opponents..

Spot on. Our back-ups are more than capable of filling the role and this is the perfect opportunity for them to show what they're made off. Like boxy says, this is the tournament for our prospects and fringe players to shine
Am not sure anyone posted this before or not.. The kid is alangkah bagusnya if Manutd can get him
Not doubt the kid is talented. First of all, I am sure the French clubs will snap him first. Secondly, I wonder how his overall gameplay will change after joining a club. You know, tactics and so on do influence the gameplay of any player. That being said, clubs will always let the young ones to express themselves better. So, less instructions for them kids. Lastly, I just hope that he won't be challenged by some nasty players/defenders. His skills are mad but easily provoking the opposition.
I've played some footie and I've taken some nasty challenges. Heck, I aint good like this kid.
Those who need game time will probably get a start, including those who just recently return from injury.
Kuszczak Rafael - Brown - Rio (if recover from illness)/Smalling - Fabio Obertan - Gibson - Anderson - Park Owen (SAF confirmed few days ago he will start) - Macheda/Hernandez/Rooney (to get his confidence back?)
Put Berbatov on the bench *incase* we need him. The Rangers game or even our defeat against Leeds Utd at OT come to mind
my take rest all the seniors except for rio(if he is fit), ando and maybe park.rest berba too coz i think owen and kiko can get the job done.rooney may need the confidence but at the same time we dont want any thing out of the ordinary to happen, say freak injury and such.just and insurance maybe put him on the bench.but going back in our youngsters and plus owen, they can get that goal.
and for sino maybe we throw in bebe
