i;ve tried playing a friend's LP masterpiece fake - sounds interestingly well i must say. sure as hell beats spending a bomb for the real thing.

Wondered if you've tried the real thing.
Posted this before...here it is again. I'd think twice before putting your hard earned cash for a fake.

Here's chinese LP copy stripped of its paint. Looks like an ikea table top. tongue.gif

I bet no one demands to buy a fake as an original. if the seller lets the buyer know that its fake, its alright. But selling the fake as an ori is just so wrong. since we have some sort of community here, how if we ban shops which do this thing and spread the word? this way they would think twice before selling fake guitars as ori. their reputation is much more needed for their business on the long run.

Just imagine in 10-20 years from now, some kids would sell some 'vintage' guitars for unreasonable prices, not knowing that the guitars are fakes... they would go like "my father bought this guitar 20 years ago", "my uncle passed this to me after had it for 15 years" etc2, believing that the guitars are original ones.

For those who would still be here in the next 10+ years, please be aware of this...these people would bought fake guitars now, and they would sell them later claiming they are all vintage and original. I can't accept the fact that some kids in the future would fall for this and buy those guitars. What a shame.

TS, this is indeed, a PLAGUE. Go for secondhand original guitars rather than wasting money on fakes. The build quality is never the same. I repeat, NEVER.

To beginners out there, if you are not sure about the originality of the guitar that you are planning to buy, just post something about it here. I believe our LYN members here can always help you to identify any fakes for you. BTW, nice thread TS!

dont think so, since serial number only can tell where and what year, it was manufactured.... but if the guitar dont follow spec, u can tell.... then this could happen to ori but moded guitar as well

for gibsons, the serial number can also tell what model and color it should be.
but of cos that one have to ask gibson customer service tongue.gif

of course, if u know the details, u can.... same like fender..... some serial number are only for some model, which was build in xxxx year..... maybe diff headstock design, diff position to truss rod access, diff number of pickguard screw, diff decal design... but... thats hard la for "commoner" like me.... hahaha

the thing is, fenders n gibby fakes surely we can recognize.. bcos the the enthusiasts for dis brand can recognize it (intermediate to pro level)

the fake plague nowadays spread even to cheap/beginner level guitars.. they are sold as an ori n no chance a beginner/noobie can spot it, if it were a fake
