Here's my result regarding 6-Cell Battery Life

Watch anime (hellsing 480p mkv file) : 22 Minutes

Surfing internet (Chrome with 4 tab+) using wifi : 3 Hours 31 Minutes

So total up around 3 hours and 51 minutes using battery laugh.gif

What housekeeping ive did:

- Startup program only load anti virus (nod 32), orbit downloader, dell dock, and Ati catalyst
- Uninstalled McAfee and Face Recognition software
- Use Power Saver mode

So that's my experience on the battery life. I'm impressed biggrin.gif

omg, i love M101z lcd biggrin.gif

keyboard : daaaaammmmnn nice, 100% comfortable to press and well spaced key. the keyboard click sound is sooooo softtttt!!

Touchpad : well positioned , I can use the touchpad without even need to re-adjust my other hand position on the lappy (I got pretty big hands). the button click is soft and make a soft click sound, i love it. the touchpad surface..im not sure how to comments on it, ideas? laugh.gif

Hihi Mr. Pikacu notworthy.gif
Is the M101z susceptible to fingerprints and smudge? Especially the palm rest and lid area, is it made of glossy material?

Looking for a mobile lappy and the M101z is actually very, very tempting drool.gif

Sadly but yeap...the plam rest and lid are made of glossy material...and they are susceptible to smudge and fingerprints...

I am really considering buying transparent skin for my lid sweat.gif but since its small...hopefully won't be that pricey (no idea where to buy it yet)

other than that, everything about M101z...i love it...kyaaaaaaa (gayish sound) ~ tongue.gif laugh.gif

the best part is...plug in the hdmi port from LCD/LED TV and walah, u have ur own everything-player laugh.gif

with -0.05 undervolt, my M101z can last for ~95 minutes of 480p mkv anime, after that still got like ~20% battery life

p/s: I made it by undervolting my M101z by -0.1v, but yet to test it throughfully. According to W7 battery meter, maybe I can reach up to 4 hours ~ 4 hours 48 minutes on idle + light internet surfing laugh.gif

p/s 2: i'm eco-frenly aka green freak tongue.gif

For my case, booting from bios -> windows..damn fast. even faster than my Phenom II X4 desktop sweat.gif
game performance, i didnt test it out yet.

lagging? nope...iv yet to feel the lagging ..i mainly use my m101z for surfing, youtube videos (usually 360p/480p due to speedish-tmnut) and typing documents.

I have no problem watching 480p vid anyway tongue.gif

For HD vid (720p/1080p), I didn't try it out yet.

as for virus scan, I've uninstall d LagAfee and installed NOD32, i didn't feel any stutter-ish from that.

and for everyday task for me... (surfing, watch movies and watch movies via LCD TV HDMI, writing documents)...i feel that M101z is d one im looking for all this while thumbup.gif

(before Fusion comes lol)

This is exactly how I felt with K125.
Your K325 should give you much smoother feel. thumbup.gif
Excellent choice on the NOD32.
A very fast netbook indeed.

Yeap, I love my M101z.

I think I found the reason why it is kinda heavier than I thought; the build quality is superb I must say. I lift my M101z alot using only at its tip...and no sign of any bending from what I observe

Thinkpad has older amd chipset n weaker GPU.... Prices might even be more expensive if u getting the W7HP version of x100e...

I dun think any dealer would be able to sell Dell products also??
The shops selling Dell are not dealers themselves, they just somehow got it for much cheaper price then sell it for slightly cheaper price than online...

Hi there,

this is the result after -0.1v undervolt..

The heat ..
- from temperature monitoring software; quite reasonable, my processor temp was around 47~55 depends on process currently it handles. temperature from IBT doesn't count.. laugh.gif (was like 59~61 wit -0.1v). On my lap, a little warm, and pretty comfortable on my laps smile.gif
- from the exhaust hole; i can't really tell if it have any effect or not laugh.gif

on idle, the fan really really quite. but when some process kicks, the fan sound went up a little, and the harddisk spinning is..noticeable.

hope this help...i try my best to give the unbiased feedback laugh.gif

new owner reporting in...blackie...k325...6 cells...1 year complete cover...

to-date... -mcafee +mse +orbit

my first impression

the good...build quality vs 1215n etc...keyboard and big pad...sound...overall "feel"...5+ hours
the bad.....small arrow keys...vga no screw...basic bios...limited lcd open angle
the ugly....loud fan/vibration (not sure if i have a bad unit...put on table will amplify the whining/humming sound...can really feel the vibration when put hand on it)...

humm about the fan and vibration, i noticed it too. I believe hdd spinning also contribute to the vibration, as for fan...no comment much on it, never gone into controlling fan speed hmm.gif

I just received mine about 2 hours ago... 4GB/9-cell... took 11 days from the day or submit order form untill delivery today.

- Never use any netbook before so adjusting myself with the limited keyboard. (up and down button so small, and page-up/down button are under function). I am type of person that use these button alots
- Screen display nice. Very bright with power on.
- Solid feel. Nice keyboard feel.
- Kind of heavy than expected.. maybe because of 9 cell bat.
- heat.. feel some heat but still laptop-able.
- fast for normal use (browse, youtube, etc)

im going to use mostly for programming work. will see if this can replace my normal notebook (compaq presario that is soo hot, can boil egg one..)

Welcome abroad mate!

- I am that person too. But I get used to it after a while. And I noticed HP note/netbook series also have pagedown/pageup under function key
- I still think the heaviness due to the chasis nod.gif

...blackie...will skin it later...

ordered online...about a week to arrive...walked whole of lowyat and imbi and others...cannot find at the time...maybe too new...

pageup and pagedown now using multi touch...so much easier...

it is "laptopable"...if there is such a word...not too hot...but difficult to read because of the limited opening angle of the lcd...also very narrow viewing angle for optimal viewing...

having said that...thinking of getting another unit...hehehe...

Hello!

I'm new and sorry for my english, i'm french!

Pikacu, I would like to know how did you manage to undervolt your dell?
I just got mine today and i was wondering because of the noise if it was a good choice to undervolt it. I try to use RightMark Cpu Clock utility but i don't have any advance options and it seems that's it's block.

Thank you!

Thank you for your answer pikacu
I'm just disappointed about the noise of the dell, have you got another idea of what i should do?
I manage (thank to your link) to undervolt it but even if the temperature decrease of 5°c, it has no effect on the fan speed.
I8kfan is too old to work on this laptop nop?

Remember that newer gen Intel GMA HD performance is directly tied to CPU speed. Those benchmark number is for Core i7's GMA HD iirc.

Correct. But imho, dont relied too much on either one of these, GMA HD and HD4225, if you planned to game.

Are you taking about Nile based netbook?

Talking about the design, Acer AO721 looks much much better than Dell's. Slimmer and sexier.

Talking about built quality, Acer AO721 has the similar built quality as you can find in current TimelineX.

i find this dell build quality better than similar asus and acer options...

its very stiff...so less flex...and hence i hope better/longer reliability...

Dell generally has better build quality but always bulky. Probably due to their BTO nature.

add me to the user list.
just got it few days back.

really doesn't dissapoint for a notebook this size.
plus it was only rm1599 from dell (K325 and 2GB).
it even came with Ubuntu loaded.

my only gripe is you can feel the HDD spinning.. maybe due to 7200rpm HDD.. other than that.. still exploring.

You can change and add anytime.
I ordered with 2GB and i opened the RAM compartment. Still got another sodimm slot.
Just make sure they give you the 1 x 2GB option and not 2 x 1GB (although i think dell doesn't offer that).

i'm planning to get either the M101z or the M301z, but one problem that i see is that the M301z does not have a vga output. only HDMI and mini Display Port. any one here had this problem? Is there any converter provided or sold by Dell?

Noted that dell web offer RM100 cash redemption for M101z, offer end next Thur (perhaps is christmas bargain?)

And other interest changes is, CPU available either is K145 or duoCore K345, which is slightly faster (both adding 0.1 GHz) than previous one (K125 & K325).

I can confirm the theory that Number of HDD + Startup program effects the bootup time rather than processor

Scenario

1) Athlon X2 4200+ 2.1Ghz w/ 80gb hdd W7 x86 2GB - Less than 10 second from power on to windows
2) M101z w/ 320gb hdd W7 x64 2GB - Less or 15 seconds from power on to windows
3) Phenom II X4 3.0Ghz w/ 3x 320gb hdd W7 x64 4GB - around or more than 45 seconds from pwoer on to windows

I have all of systems mentioned above.
And all of them are using basic startup program.

has anyone tried that driver on this m101z?

last time i tried installing the lastest driver on my bro dell laptop, the drivers can't install properly and screw up the graphics controller.

so i'd rather not try updates from AMD directly unless someone is brave enough to do it before me..

where do i set it and how do i know it's use the hardware acceleration?
as it is, this laptop is pretty speedy already.

and it's inevitable technology will be phased out quickly.

To test it? simple...run vlc with GPU acc with dell's initial driver (10.7) and u will get heavy artifact. With new driver (10.12) it run as smooth as butter at BRrip 720p on 1080p reso.

well, i tried. seems like no difference for my files.. haha..
i never encountered any heavy artifacts b4 except for 1 rmvb file.
but even after this GPU acceleration, it's still the same.

I not understand, how you guys managed to sqeeze more than 4 hour of battery life

mine still bested at 3:30 hr before seeing the 10% warning, undervolt to 0.7625V~0.875V, power saver mode (but with transparency windows enabled)

forgot to mention mine one is K345 dual core

depends on what you do..
if it's cpu or gpu intensive, then obviously the battery won't last that long.
if it's just surfing the net or simple, i think can last more than 4 hours.
