Microsoft is releasing a controller-free system called Kinect. So is Beijing eedoo Technology Ltd., a spin-off company created by Chinese computer giant Lenovo. It's called the eBox. Watch out, Microsoft!

"We are the world's second company to produce a controller-free game console, behind only Microsoft," Beijing eedoo Technology president Jack Luo tells China Daily.

Lenovo created the company to take on established game hardware companies like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

"Our product is designed for family entertainment. EBox may not have exquisite game graphics, or extensive violence, but it can inspire family members to get off the couch and get some exercise," Luo said. Sixteen game developers have signed on to create games for the platform.

While Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all manufacture their consoles in China, eedoo thinks it has a leg up. "We understand Chinese culture and customers better than our competitors. We still hold advantages in terms of Chinese game content, sales channels and customer service," added Luo.

Beijing eedoo Technology expects more than a million eBox consoles to be sold annually in China. The eBox, which is slated to go on sale in early 2011, is expected to cost more than a Nintendo Wii, but less than a US$299 Xbox 360.

Microsoft has yet to officially launch the Xbox 360 in China.

With consoles banned in China, it is not clear how the eBox will go on sale. Kotaku has reached out to Beijing eedoo and is following up with Lenovo.

Lions, tigers and... pomeranians will run wild in the streets of a deserted Tokyo in Sony's newest PlayStation 3 exclusive, Tokyo Jungle, a most unusual concept revealed in the newest issue of Famitsu magazine.

Tokyo Jungle takes place in a deserted, futuristic Japan, in which the city has transformed into a vicious wildlife wasteland. Developed by the PlayStation C.A.M.P. team, Tokyo Jungle will be stuffed with realistic looking animals to control and pit against each other—elephants, crocodiles, cheetahs, porcupines, chickens, ostriches and much, much more.

The game will spin a post-apocalyptic yarn that explains how, in the year 20XX, mankind has all but disappeared from the planet, leaving behind toy dogs and race horses to fend for themselves.

We really, really, really hope this will be playable at Tokyo Game Show in September. This looks wild.
