I have a serious question here.

Do we have to do medical checkup before boarding? I thought Malaysia is still consider as a safe country by the Britain. Therefore no need to do medical checkup , ie Chest X-ray etc.

Please anyone can clarify for me.
*
AFAIK, UK custom will randomly pull some (not all) incoming passenger for medical check up. If you aren't being pull, then obviously you do not need the X Ray film. But if you are being pulled, you want to join the long queue to have it done? You got the time & patience? If no, then get your X Ray done in Malaysia.

What adapter is dubai using, is the standard one applicable? Lol, I think i'll reach there in the midnight, not sure if they're still open that late.

What baggage allowance they gave u anyway? 40kg?
*
I suggest getting a Multi-adapter here in Malaysia. You can always use it when you go to Europe or other places for travel sooner or later and find it useful. Don't cost much.

Well I passed my dad's original FD cert to VFS and it came back in one sheet smile.gif

Prior to giving the original FD cert to VFS, go to the bank, get them to make a photocopy and certify that it's a true copy.
Make very sure the bank also wrote down the DATE it was certified. If they do not write down the date, that FD could be many years ago and VFS may reject them.

I was told laptop is not considered part of luggage weight allowance. If they complained your backpack is too heavy, just take out the laptop + accessories like charger.

Hi guys, does pirated software be a serious problem in UK? My friend is going to UK next week, wondering is it need to get an original copy for Microsoft Office and other softwares...

Hope anyone here can help. Thx in advance smile.gif
*
If it is installed into the computer, they don't check.

But if you want to bring a pirated software in CD disc, then you better don't.

Why should you be worried? If your father have a HSBC Premier account, you can even open a UK account before leaving Malaysia.

my university' student guide also advised to do the vaccination..
i guess any hospital will be able to do that as well huh..
It is strongly advised to do meningitis vaccination BEFORE you travel to UK. Meningitis seems to strike UK university students and if you got it, you may die or have permanent brain damage. Do a google on "UK university meningitis" and you will get plenty of hits. In fact, almost all UK university will ask you to get vaccinated for meningitis. It's that serious so don't play-play.

AFAIK, the meningitis vaccine available in Malaysia are children dose but it is better than nothing because it still give you some protection. So when you landed, the university will arrange for you to get the higher adult dose there.

Whats the price range for this vaccine?
*
LOL. You are spending tons of money to study in UK and you worry about cost of a single vaccination?

Anyway, it is not cheap and I not sure how much. RM50? RM100? RM150? The thing is, not many clinic will have it. If you have trouble finding a clinic having it, go try some specialist pediatrician because in Malaysia, it is mostly given to babies. Ha, babies jab for university student. That's ironic.

Hi! Can anyone explain why Loughborough Uni is on most of the UK League Tables (The Times, Sunday Times, The Guardian, etc) but not on the QS World Rankings? Is it due to the different methodology?
*
Or may be that shows how fallible are the ranking because Loughborough is a good university.

if you're with HSBC premier, you will be exempted from that £8/month I think. Ask the HSBC premier bank officer for details.
Natwest isn't that bad. (: There's Lloyds, Halifax, Barclays, etc etc
Don't be worried la.
*
I think u need to have RM200K in HSBC to qualify for Malaysian Premier customer.

Alternatively, if your parent already have Malaysia HSBC Premier account, then there are ways to get free UK HSBC Premier account open BEFORE you left Malaysia and have it for free also.

I heard it was RM 500k and you need to have a constant flow of a certain amount to keep the account active.
*
No, I am pretty sure you don't need that large a figure to qualify nor constant flow. I was told Malaysian HSBC has one of the lowest requirement so I am pretty sure it is around RM200K or RM250K.

Oh dear.....next you will be thinking of cooking pots and pans. There are some really useful companies that caters specifically to new university students. Here's just one of them:

http://www.all-unied.com/acatalog/index.html

You can order it now and it will arrive at your residence in university BEFORE you arrive. Don't fancy even 1 night without blanket etc.

But you still need plates, bowl, cups, knife & fork, kitchen towel, blanket, pillow, cooking pot, cooking spoon, can opener and so many little things. And when you 1st arrive, where got time to buy all those little little things or the energy? The convenience of products from those companies are not to be under-estimated if you are into self catering.

Does anybody know any good website whereby you can send free SMS to any UK mobile phone number via the Internet?

Something like our http://www.mostsms.com/ that allows us to send free SMS via Internet to any Malaysian mobile phone free of charge.

the gbp is at a near historical low at the moment (at least since 1997), so it might be advisable to change all the money you need now.....if you have the money.........
*
Nobody knows for sure. Looking at old historical data, it may even go down to RM4 vs today's 4.80

Based on Technical Analysis, you don't really have to know why it happened. All you need to know is that it HAD happened. And since it HAD happened before, it may happen AGAIN. That is the one of the fundamental rules of TA in that history tends to repeat itself.

Again based on my limited knowledge of TA, RM5 is a crossroad and if the GPB can not break above it, then the downside is more likely to be RM4

Like I said, nobody really know for sure what will happen in the future.

as for stock prices, technical analysis is not accurate for exchange rates.......
*
Based purely on Technical Analysis, it says GBP is not likely to surpass +/- RM7. And if you care to look at that TA chart, it has be exceedingly accurate because once it reaches that RM7 region in 1998, 2004 and 2007, it falls back. You could not get more accurate than that.

Now bearing in mind that chart is a highly compressed chart so you can't see the detail. But if you search for details elsewhere, it says there is a strong support at 5.00 +/- in 2002. So it is of no surprise GBP has dropped from RM7 and hover around RM5 for quite sometime in 2009/2010. TA theory says that once it reaches the RM5 support line, there is likely to be a rebound and that is exactly what happened when it bounds from RM5 to RM5.80 earlier this year.

But now that RM5 trendline has been broken, that same RM5 trendline is now the new resistance. That is why you have been seeing it hovering just below RM5 for the past week or months and having a hard time to break above it. So yet again, TA is pretty accurate, wouldn't you say?

But then again, my TA skill are pretty limited but even then, I can see some of the major prediction of TA coming true.

you don't need ta for that.....a currency cannot appreciate too high, not will it slump too low (unless you are a basket case like zimbabwe), and the natural forces of cost and trading come in.....i can tell you the gbp will not go far beyond 7, nor will it go below 4.........barring the collapse of either the msian or british economy.....

the question is where the direction of the currency will go at any time, and that is impossible to predict with any accuracy.......i can say it will be between 4 and 7, but that is not helpful in real life decision making.....
*
My prediction is the chances of GPB going lower than present 4.80 is higher than it going up (because TA chart seem to tell us the 5 is a strong resistance). Therefore, only buy what you need now and not too stockpile, the reverse of your prediction. That was my main point.

interestingly, that is also the view of some currency traders.....they are bearish on the pound till year end....time will tell.....

TA is an interesting subject that combine the study of human behavior, economic, policy etc. It's a rojak of everything that can and will affect a product, currency or shares.

It fundamental principle are:
1. Price is everything and reflects every factors known and unknown that have an effect on price.
2. History repeats itself.
3. Price move in trends.

And yes, only time will tell because TA is not a crystal ball.
