the news above said that the tuition will be triple to 10k pounds??
OMG, i'm planning to go over UK next year for my master...
my original cost is 16k pounds originally... so how much will it be then...??
i will die if i need to suddenly fork out so much...  where to find the money...?? T_T

I think they are referring to home student tuition fees increase, not International. Home student are presently paying heavily state subsidized fees whereas International are already paying full fees.

Present UK home student fees is around ~3000. Triple it will makes it ~10,000, that's the exact figure mentioned in the news.

Of further interest is, International students are already now paying ~10K now. So if you triple that, it would be ~30K and that's not what's mentioned in the news.

Hence it would be pretty safe to say the fee increase only affects the home student.

140+ per week, it's kinda normal in london though.

uhm .. my place is town .. well my room is very small. and the toilet is smaller than first world genting's toilet. Meals included? not bad actually. mine just include internet, electricity and water since it's hostel.

hardly eat outside, if it's 12.50 pound for a chinese food, i rather cook myself :/ not worth it leh.

Eh? there uniqlo here? couldnt see one here.

You have your own personal toilet and you are still complaining?

because 'normal' fees (ie local home students fees) is subsidised by the british government........there was a time in the past when local students paid no fees.......the 'normal' fees will likely increase as the gov cuts back on subsidy.......

in the distant past (your parents time) international students also pay no or little fees, through the generosity of the british tax payers.........
*
What generosity are you talking about?

During colonial time, the British came here not for charity work but to take our wealth back to UK. In other word, they came to take your grandpa's money back to UK. Now you, the grandson, simply go there to take some back. I suggest people open their eyes and read history with an open mind and make own conclusion. If you read history written by the British, what do you expect?

If the word "generosity" has not been started, I would not have counter with the word "colonization".

In other word, I am not the thread starter.

For all the flaws of colonialism, it could have been worst.
Try telling that to the South and North American Indian.

Yes, they didn't have to. And neither should we feel guilty for accepting their money. That was my point.

his company sponsor full tuition fee for ACCA ..... i "think" why he didn't take it up is because .....now he has already work for a year....and end of next year will be 2 years.....thats why he has started to talk about his master this past few days with me ....maybe he is preparing for it ....just the problem with $$$
*
I think after all those exemption, he could have gotten his ACCA within 3 years. So he is already half way to ACCA already so I don't understand the problem. Unless he just play around and do nothing in the past 1 1/2 yr?

May be of some interest on overseas student fees of the future:

"Mr Cameron said raising tuition fees will mean ''two things”: “It will make sure our universities are well funded ...and we won't go on increasing so fast the fees for overseas students.

''In the past we have been pushing up the fees on overseas students and using that as a way of keeping them down for domestic students.

“We have done the difficult thing. We have put up contributions for British students. Yes, foreign students will still pay a significant amount of money but we should now be able to keep that growth under control.”

Anyone know the procedure of applying for a personal banking account at UK ? Which bank is recommended ? Im going next week in Uni of Wolverhampton . Thanks
*
Correct me if I am wrong.

More stringent than opening an Malaysian bank account. They are very concerned about money laundering so will require more document and chief amongst them will your university letter confirming you are their student.

Can anyone advise what is the mininium expenses (fees & cost of living) to study Medic in UK now ? Which U is cheap and good ? If I have a budget of Rm500k, can i manage ?
*
Hard to give you a figure because it depends on where you go. For example, Imperial's 5 years tuition fees is RM250,000 more than the cheaper universities. And room rental in cheap city like Leeds is half of London.

Overall, I think if you opt for cheaper place would need about RM600,000.

A few comments on various airlines (Economy Seat) based on experience:

Thai Airways
Direct Flight
the tickets are quite cheap if you do booking at the last minute.
Food served are quite appetizing.
disadvantage: no entertainment! earphones provided.
flights sometimes quite empty, so you can sleep on 3 seats.
Return ticket costs Rm3200, one way ticket RM1800 (sep 2010 rate)

Brunei Air
Transit at Dubai
tickets are cheap during promotion period. london return ticket around 500 quids.
food so-so.
strict baggage limit.
flights sometimes quite empty, so you can sleep on 3 seats.

Emirates
Transit at Dubai
food are nice. airticket price quite reasonable.
would be cheaper if you fly from gatwick airport instead of heathrow airport.
best entertainment provided as the screen is touch screen
seats are quite big.
but flight super full. so definitely no place for you to sleep comfortably.  tongue.gif
food so-so.

My friend took Singapore Airlines A380. they have super spacious seats.
but tickets are pricy.

my two cents smile.gif

General rule of thumb is, airline will almost always transit at their home base before continuing their journey from London to Kuala Lumpur.

For example. Thai Ailine will transit at their home base Bangkok before going to KL. Brunei home base is Bandar Seri Begawan. Emirate is Dubai. Cathay Pacific is Kong Kong. Sri Lankan Air will transit at Colombo etc . Since MAS home base is KL, it's the only direct flght without transit by default.

Then the figure you posted is extremely misleading and can cause problem to other people. It's like saying living in KL is as cheap as Ipoh and therefore you can budget your living expenses as such.

I was in Leeds
Even so I find 20 -40 quid to be too low for normal decent student accommodation that's not too far from university. I suspect you are probably living in some out of the way housing or paid part of the rent in other form like cleaning the kitchen or sharing room with others or you found a fairy god mother as landlord. I think you should state why yours is so cheap because you may give others the impression that's the expected rent cost. And imagine someone using your rent cost as estimate and budget as such and when it does, it can spell trouble and when that does happen, you are doing other a disservice. My 2 sen.
