now im more confused whether galaxy tab or ipad.. considering going down south to buy ipad..

It will be cheaper than iPad if need to compete with it. Seriously iPad overpriced for a handicapped tablet. I have to install n purchased 3rd party apps and setup goaruna and drop box accounts to cover the absence of USB port.
There is no front camera in iPad, so no video using Skype.
Video other formats not approved by apple need convert or buy 3rd party
I can write a long list of all iPad deficiency and how I overcome it with mainly more money spending on apps. Will post in my blog when ready

This SAMSUNG tab is great based on all the reviews I have read. Since I have iPad and already spend additional money , time to learn overcoming all it's limitations, will stick with it. As an alternative to a smaller android tablet I have book the 5 in Dell streak

I have a IPAD 3G 64GB and has been using for 3 months. From a functionality point of view, the Samsung Tab beats the iPad flat. I am using a Android phone Nexus ( Froyo) so I can more or less understand the software the Samsung Tab has. As was said before the ipad was considered a oversized ipod touch , similarly we can view the Samsung Tab as a oversized Galaxy S

The iPad is good as a gadget for CASUAL browsing ( it does not support Adobe Flash 10.1 , meaning as of now 75% of web videos you cannot watch ) , emails, a great ebook, magazine reader, rss and tweeter, games, watching Apple format videos etc. I have Jailbreak it to enhance its usage with other non-Approved JB apps

I'd like to highlight here here some points that one should know about the iPad's deficiency. One should know these limitations , then you can make a fairer comparison with the Android Tablet. I only list down here the main ones which most users will face

Hardware - it has no USB port and not even a front video camera. The absence of the USB port has hampered its functionality, which I will elaborate later

Officework Suite : iPad comes without any. Cheapest is to purchase Quickoffice US$15 or you buy Apple default iWork package of Pages, Keynote, Numbers - each will cost you US9.99, meaning all 3 will cost you close to US$30. It comes with just a simple note app. I bought Quickoffice and Keynote

Safari : Poor browser , main issue only one window one time and basically just a expanded phone browser. You can switch to another window but lose last window. I replace it with Atomic Browser and Life browser : cost me another US$3

Videos : Apple approved formats only , ie H.264 and MPEG-4 video in mp4, m4v and mov. In its approve formats, video is great. Others you need to convert using , say Handbrake or Air Video ( both free software ) or use third part free and paid ( I bought YX Player ) plays other non-Apple approved format but generally quality playback is poor. Is still a better option to convert. Some 3rd party video player works only on Jailbreak ipads

File Transfers to iPad : Easiest email yourself to retrieve file but not workable for big files, say above 10 MB - email over and download slow. You can use iTunes to transfer but this only for apps that are approved by Apple to read the files.
You can set up cloud services accounts eg GoAruna or Dropbox and upload files to them and access download files from ipad.
Only on Jailbreak iPad, you can use Wireless transfer using WinSCP ( Windows) or Cyberduck ( MAC). If you have a MAC, you can use Netatlk to transfer and also access files on the ipad

If you often need to transfer photos JPEG format, you can buy the Camera Connection Kit ( US$29) and plug into the iPad connector. The CCK also allows you to plugin SD card and thumb drives

You need to Jailbreak to install a File EXplorer ( quite few types available costing average US$1 to US3 ) . By default you cannot access the ipad files

EBooks : iPad reads only ePub format and PDF. If you have a collection of pdb, prc formats you have to use Calibre to convert it to epub format

Saving files from email : Attachments on email cannot be saved to the ipad for , say future reference. Only way you save the email or use 3rd party apps eg ReaddleDocs ( US$4.99) , open and save thro Goodreader ( US$0.99 ) or upload these to your Dropbox account

iPad does not support Multitasking. You close an app, you lose it. You need to Jailbreak and install Backgrounder ( free app ) to have multitasking. Disadvantage it takes up memory and I often have to close down apps manually else ipad will freeze with too many apps open

Guys Guys....just read on the price for the Tab from Berlin...

Think have to forgo the Galaxy Tab.....and lookout for the following contenders ( cheaper i think ).

1. Adam from Notion Ink. 10 inch - a bit big
2. CSL MI700 ( Msia brand kah ? ) - sure make in Msia ? - 7 inch
3. Google Tablet...not sure either 7 or 10
4. Asus (10 inch) next year...hate it...a bit big..
5. Aigo from China - 7 inch.
6. Huawei S7 - 7 inch
7. MSI - 10 inch...a bit big oso...

Those who are not in urgent need , should wait . I believe in about 3 months time, we will have not only more options but with more reviews of actual units for one to make a better decision. The biggest obstacle i see is how many of these will ever hit our shores . Of course you can always buy it online

Android is not ready to be used on tablets yet, says Google's director of mobile products, Hugo Barra.

Barra said Google wouldn't allow its app store on tablets because the applications wouldn't run properly on the bigger screens. "If you want Android market on that platform, the apps just wouldn't run, [Froyo] is just not designed for that form factor," says Barra.

He hinted that future versions of Android will be modified to operate better on a tablet computer.

Most apps will work as can be seen in the Galaxy tab. Some apps the developer will need to redevelop it for the bigger screen. Is same as the iPad,to date only 25000 apps are for iPAD while the rest of the 200000 apps are still in iphone format. Trying to use the ipad to use these non iPAD compatible apps is just a double magnified size - the graphic resolution is terrible especially on letters/graphics . Such apps you are seeing just a 6.5 to 7" display on a 9 " screen. I have given up using most of such apps until the developer does a iPAD version

Export your contacts as csv file. From googlemail, import it. Sync tab with your google account. You might wish to delete off some of the extra fields in the csv before you import in from google. The csv is basically a excel file
Similarly use google calendar to import your outlook.

There are various solutions, just type your question in google search and you can see the various options

Just curious, how much is the SGT selling now?  When I asked in Sunway piramid, the quoted me RM2799.  However, I think it's lower than that now though.  Any idea?

Also, I read that SGT will not be getting an upgrade to Honeycomb though.  cry.gif

The latest new retail original set is RM 2199. THis price officially advertised in newspaper. If you get from SenQ even have freebies included. That guy is trying to fleece you
