Never before in my life and all these years of supporting Liverpool, I have felt so utterly disconsolate, to be roundly may i say "thrashed" by Manchester City, I have seen worse beatings that Liverpool has taken, notably against United and Chelsea and Arsenal,
but i always had a sense that its going to be OK, that sense of optimism but to feel this way so early in the season, Personally Im the most the optimistic person when it comes to talking about Liverpool Football Club and yet this season im not feeling optimistic as prior to seasons before.
Not forgetting that if we dont find any owners soon, administration looms and the inevitable deduction of points. not being a doom monger but these are times of uncertainty and the prospect of it happening is very real. I tended to brush it under the carpet and hoped things will work out for the best, but seeing things as it is, Its sad to see how far we have fallen. and yes no doubt we may smash 5-6 past WBA next weekend and everything will look dandy and trendy, I'd think, that is the only joy that we get as Liverpool fan these days...to live in the moment of victory rather than savoring on the success'es of the the season past
And coming to City , I did watch the match last nite, I was quite surprised Roy did play a 4-4-2 formation, our midfield was badly overrun with A.Johnson and Milner getting their way. Gerrard was ineffective as he needed to often come back to support the defense, Lucas was holding the ball well but too bad he kept on passing laterally than passing the player a few yard infront of him. We tended to ping the ball without any real attacking intent and from what i saw lacked real urgency. there was a period for about 5 mins in the second half that we played with urgency which Hart pulled off a brilliant double save, but apart from that end product was lacking.
Yaya Toure did look every part of the 26M that City paid for him. absolute beast. City deserved the 3 points.
Torres wasnt match fit, but rather than complaining why start a player who isnt match fit, I'd like to know how is a player going to get match fit if the doenst play any freaking matches? Well I wouldnt hold anything against Roy at least he did start with a positive lineup nor im going to complain Torres isnt supposed to start because he isnt "match fit" . We fans are a bunch of fickle minded lots arent we, when someone start with 4-4-2 we'd clamor for a more defensive lineup and yet when we play a defensive lineup, we'd wonder why the hell arent we playing a more positive lineup
Will be interesting to see how we'll play once we get out team settled. Torres, Gerrard Cole and with the others supporting pretty decent.. one can only hope for the best.

QUOTE(koolspyda @ Aug 24 2010, 02:57 PM) i can accept that MC improved & giving us a hard time, maybe losing 1-2, 0-1 but 0-3 its a little more cause of alarm truly sad My point exactly mate its one thing to get beaten..but its totally another thing all together to be beaten in the manner that we did last nite.

Kuyt and Mascherano will probably leave by next week, and every single penny from their sale will go towards the servicing of the debts.thats what i see is going to happen. goodness why are we being linked to Paul Konchesky! baffles me to infinity, yes he was Roy's player but have become what i can classify exactly a midtable team fighting for scraps of Europa League qualification
No doubt I'll be sad to see the back of Kuyt if he leaves but at least we have backups to replace him namely Maxi and not forgetting we can push Johnson to the wing and promote Kelly. all the ins and out with our better players in the club reminds of a saying stumbled upon once,... you either sit on the chair or be on the menu.

QUOTE(-nana- @ Aug 26 2010, 02:46 PM) well there arent many lb available right now, plus konchesky is like 29 now and have a year left in his contract with fulham, probably a few reasons y roy wants him besides already working with him previously. What about the one we already have at the club? they arent exactly what you call World Class but they are darn slight better than Konchesky arent they? and why re-sign Aurelio in first place if he's gonna be benched. I'd wonder who's really in charge of the transfer's at the club.. Purslow or Roy...

Wow its true then Meireles is going to play to Liverpool..what real good buy and for that price and comparing to his age its a steal and he can score a few from midfield and bummer Konchesky.
Dalla Valle and Kacanicklic are real talents it'd be a waste if we are going to trade them to get Konchesky and Etuhu?? reeks of mid table mediocrity that
and coming to my second point...quite sad to see Masch is not being given the proper farewell he deserves, the man gave his all for the club people.I did slate him because i didnt know the real reason behind him forcing a move now that i do, all the best to him in Barca, they just got better with Masch. Absolutely appaling and downright distateful to read some of posts on Masch by the so called club fans in this thread. You call himself one of your own and now that he wants to leave he's being crucified?
Success is due to find him in Barca. No doubt gonna miss him intesity and his commitment to the cause and all those scampering 40 yards run across the field to close down the runner. Godspeed lil monster Masch . Thank You for all the good times and glad to say that you have played in Liverpool Football Club

Its been a long time since we signed a well known CM and im quite stoked with the signing with Meireles to be honest, decent signing indeed. Well done Roy though im still aghast with the arrival of Konchesky Meireles Agger Agger's found himself a roommate with something in common... That aside... With the impending signing of Meireles and Konchesky i would think this is how our first team we'll line up for the upcoming season provided everyone is fit, ------------------------Reina--------------------------------------- ---------Johnson- Carra- Agger -Konchesky ------ ----------------------Meireles-------------------- ---------------Kuyt- Gerrard-Cole-Jovanovic---------------- ------------------------Torres------------------------------ Subs: Jones Skrtel Poulsen Ngog Lucas Babel Aurelio With either Cole or Gerrard supporting Torres upfront..I stll cant get out of my head the fact that Roy is signing Konchesky This post has been edited by triple02: Aug 28 2010, 02:44 PM

we were absolute shite and absolutely lucky tonite..honestly lucky to get all 3 points when it should have been a draw...this game defined the need for more attacking players..we really need to have Cole and Meireles in the squad soonest. after what i saw tonite..though i cant believe im saying it but screw it I'd take Paul freakin' Konchesky to slot in at LB the soonest as well.
just worn out from today. ill give a more in-depth review tomorrow...
LOL cant help it but some scums are so infatuated by our players personal lives. probably it cant get over the fact that Cole scored against the United last season. We might not have the dough to pay over the odd's for transfers but we certainly have enough money to pay our players.

here's my take on things from what i personally saw last nite.
We were poor.very. to say that we eeked out a win is a major understatement. Albion had to more threatening chances to score compared to us where we only resorted to those Hollywood shots by Torres and Gerrard. Nothing against Agger but he's not cut out to play as a LB, unlike Carra who can play at RB and Agger isnt cultured to be a LB. Square pegs in round holes doenst work. and Skrtel is one lucky man to be not penalised for his fouls in the penalty area. I've seen many ref's give them, and the ref was quite lenient last nite. hence thats why I'd pick a pairing of Carra and Agger any day over Skrtel. Johnson put in his usual shift though i feel something isnt right about his performance just yet.Overall our defense is good just need Konchesky to slot in at LB and Agger replacing Skrtel and we're good and thank goodnes no more zonal marking on setpieces.
Now coming to ur midfield last nite...we lacked the cutting edge, no final balls and lacked creativity to break down WBA. not helped by the fact that we had 2 DM's in Lucas and Poulsen. Gerrard was mostly isolated trying to pickout a pass to Torres and when Torres get the balls Kuyt and Jova are a tad slow to join in the attack.and often we were crowded out by Albion's midfield.and was my eyes deceiving me ? did i see Torres playing on the right side of midfield last nite?
as i mentioned earlier post our teams begs out for some sort of creativity and I'm hoping Cole and Meireles can provide the much needed creativity because Poulsen and Lucas can defend but Im sorry they arent someone you'd look to pass to to launch an attack. to sum up this perfectly we were a typical English side last nite. kind of reminded me of Houllier's Liverpool. I know the season is still young, but Roy needs to inject more urgency into the side, It was like a pre-season match. and did anyone notice how quiet was Anfield last nite?
Torres he put in a shift and a hard shift that.Did you guys see how emotional was he after he scored that goal must have meant alot to him
and if rumors that we are interested in Llorente are true then i'd think it bodes well, though i cant help to think that we are slowly being mould into a Fulham type of side and if Llorente makes it to Liverpool i see him playing in the "Zamora" role at Liverpool. Kudos to Roy at least he's at least making the right substitutions and leaving out player on the field and not taking them out while we are chasing the game.
I wouldnt say our season is going to be filled with doom and gloom just yet. because what we put of last nite was not our first team yet. Im looking forward as to how we'll play once we have all of our first teamer's then probably it'll be a good time to pass out a judgement on Roy

The cheek on some people to slate Reina after a performance last nite...totally lost for words at the fact we have some so called supporters of the club having a go at Reina... Im sorry that i had to login into the forum and check on this thread only to find what sorry state some people come rate our players so quickly when they have a bad game. FFS I know you're a "supporter" that doesnt mean you'd have to flush your common sense down the gutter. and these bunch will be same people that will be sucking on the ball sack of the same player they dissed the week before when the player puts in a good performance...jeez..what utter bunch of tripes

this is all i can sum up of the famed Lucas-Poulsen partnership
Meireles created more in 15 minutes than Poulsen or Lucas did all match.

Based on what ive seen
Reina is an absolute legend. totally kept us in the match tonite with 3 world class saves. We are indeed very very lucky to have such a fantastic keeper like him. Would easily walk into any clubs in the world my man of the match for today.
our defence..Carra and Skrtel need to stop hoofing the ball upfield everytime when they get a chance to clear and hope Torres can conjure up some magic to score a goal. apart from that Carra look solid as usual and Skrtel needs to be dropped and replaced by Agger enough with one ball hoofer we dont need two! Agger is comfortable with the ball on his feet let him play for crying out loud! Konchesky my my...looked like he'd been playing in Liverpool for years didnt miss a step. hope he recovers quickly didnt look too serious he did walk out of the pitch ok. Johnson with usual bombing forward runs didnt stand out but he was ok decent
and now comes the midfield. I've never seen nor do not ever want to see such a dull, boring , dreary, unimaginative midfield combo of Lucas-Poulsen ever again..ever..both of them were mostly static with them passing to the back or to the nearest person available without making any runs into the box, yes they defended but you have duties on the offensive end as well! Christ nearly fell off my chair sleeping. and honest to god i hope that either one of them wont be playing again MU next week. coz the pairing lack mobility or imagination to even make a proper incisive pass forward! Meireles came on and look world class for that 15 mins with those late Lampard type of runs in the box. goodnes gracious im gobsmacked with the peformance of our midfield today seriously. Maxi had a shocker of a game. didnt take on his man nor put in any crosses into box at all maybe he did but i cant recall for a moment i thought Johnson was our RB and RW. Jova was impressive on the left wing with pace good game by his standards but as i mentioned cleared lacked support most of the time Konchesky was there to cover him and to provide width
Gerrard looked that he couldnt care less as usual with his body language, no proper support from midfield ended up with no proper service to Torres at all. all those long balls were easily cut off by the CB of Birmingham. still looks like he's finding he's feet Torres he had a poor game as well
We need creativity pace and mobility from our midfield to support our strikers, from what Meireles gives in that 15 mins he should slot right in against MU and Cole needs to start as well, with Kuyt out Babel needs to be playing on the wing, was it just me or did I see RH scratching his hair and chin looking clueless on what to do next?
Reina - 10/10 - We drew this match because of him
Johnson 7/10
Carra 7/10
Skrtel 6/10
Konchesky 8/10
Lucas 5/10
Poulsen 5/10
Jova 7/10
Maxi 5/10
Gerrard 6/10
Torres 6/10
SUBS
Meireles 8/10
Agger 7/10

QUOTE(solstice818 @ Sep 13 2010, 01:29 AM) All I can say is, you are very linear. I would easily give Lucas and Poulsen a 3....And that, I think is a too generous rating for them especially with that kind of performance. Added on September 13, 2010, 1:31 amThat kind of mentality for every match? Seriously? What the hell? Then we probably be getting 38 points when seasons end.... Half of what we get last season...Brilliant... I agree, rating players with points isnt one of my strongest forte' mate.. well thats one match under the carpet did by the way did we draw or lost at St Andrew's last season? QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Sep 13 2010, 10:31 AM) pessimistic time, out of the 4 games, which is the one game that we deserved to win? IMO, none, so is RH an upgrade from RB? I would think that its a widely and commonly acknowledged fact that RH is more of a "ship steadier" than an upgrade to RB. screams of calling for Roy's head is absolute bollox if you ask me. to be fair to Roy, he has the most difficult start compared to any other Liverpool's previous season, Arsenal, City and Birmingham whom have never lost in what 18 months at home? furthermore we've been in the mire since last season remember Portsmouth away and Hull City away and Birmingham at home? I guess the jury is still out on RH to be honest, give him some games and see where it leads to. New manager's need time to implant their idealogy on their team and the fan's really need to wake up and smell the roses, We arent gonna challenge for the title this season in all fairness and 4th place is our best hope and that too seems to be a long shot with Spurs and City strengthening their staffs. Our performance couldnt get any worse than this can it? and provided if there are no changes against the Man Utd I do see us tragically getting trounced.

lets digress for a bit shall we? I know we are facing the Mancs but the thing is we have an Europa League match coming up midweek and seems like most of us are starting to forget that match altogether.
I for one am seriously looking forward to our Europa League matches more than the bread and butter of the Premier League to be honest since i feel that will be the only tournament that we can see the likes of Kelly, Babel, Pacheco, Shelvey, getting a run out. with the morale of the team at an all time low, putting in these players might be just what we need since they are much much more eager to perform with in view to displace the regulars in the side.
Lots has been said about Shelvey, and i for one look forward to him getting a match against Steua, and its at Anfield furthermore, what more better match and environment to start him. to be honest I've never seen him play but he draws comparison to a younger Gerrard, a box to box midfielder who can boss the park, now thats not a bad comparison isnt it? Steua aint pushover's but we are playing at home, It'll do everyone a world of good if we got in a good result.
I'd say rest Torres, Gerrard Carra and Reina keep them fresh for the Utd match and put in the likes of Ngog and others.
My lineup (in an ideal world) for the Europa League
--------Jones------------
-Kelly-Soto-Agger-Konchesky-
-------Shelvey--Meireles-----
----Babel----Pacheco-----Cole
-------------Ngog------------

QUOTE(leaF @ Sep 17 2010, 04:45 PM) hey guys , just some off topic discussion , who the other players you think play similar to xabi alonso? raul meireles looks more like attacking midfielder to me last night and I always get confused between him and Joe Cole .(poor internet streaming ) player that play almost similar to xabi in my opinion is Banega , Xavi , Arteta , Scott Parker =( I dont have much choice as I only follow up Spanish League and BPL No not Banega or Xavi or Arteta infact. Banega is or can be classified as a box to box and Xavi & Arteta play much higher up the pitch compared to Alonso. Alonso is essentially a deep lying playmaker, perfect for a diamond midfield .If there was another midfielder that can be classed as a deep lying playmaker that would be Andrea Pirlo of AC Milan. He and Gattuso were equivalent to Alonso and Mascherano if not better during their glory days. both of their qualities meshing perfectly with Gattuso doing all the tackling and making simple passes and Pirlo making to those raking passes to Inzaghi and Shevchenko. doenst it remind us of a midfield that we had a couple of season back? that aside , he was every bit vital in Italy winning the World Cup in 06 as was Alonso for Spain a few months back
