Hi all,

I wanted to buy Asus G53 , and I had a few questions:

1 . Any problem with the laptop that is common , such as the laptop getting unreasonably hot ?

2.One of the users on lowyat recommended that I get my notebook from GenTechPC , I was wondering if you guys have tried buying from them ? are they reliable ( I went to their website , I got a little worried cause the site doesn't look professional) ?

3. If I decided to buy from GenTechPC are there any import duties I have to pay ??

4. What is the procedure like for importing , I mean if I order it just comes to my house , no need to do anything else ?"? sorry for asking such a noob question , but I never purchased a laptop online before?

5. Also if buy from US, what do you guys do for electricity problem ? cause it is different from there and here?
*
1. No problem so far... but if you are a die hard gamerz, playing high end games like Starcraft 2, Crysis 2, etc....your gpu might get slightly hot while playing..should not get hot while idling though..

2. I think many ppl in this forum bought from Gentech Pc.... I'm one of them...

3. Laptop/personal computers are tax free

4. Just order from gentechpc, then whoila! ur done... but for me last time, i use a freight forwarding service (comgateway.com) which uses DHL...they sent it right to my dooorstep..hehehe

5. ELect problem??? nope.. the laptop power adapter supports 110V/220V ....the only problem is the plug..hehehe we use British 3 pin plug....the laptop came with US 3 pin plug...

yes Comgateway uses DHL to deliver, and DHL has branches in Malaysia. If you use USPS (us postal service), they will transfer the package to our pos malaysia for local delivery.

I prefer DHL since i've used it before to buy stuff from amazon and they are reliable, and i dont really want to entrust my package to pos malaysia.

Note that if you use comgateway, you must instruct GenTech to send the package to comgateway's warehouse in oregon, they will track your package down and inform you for further delivery.

I second that..I used comgateway..my unit came with no problems...

just a slight update, my package is at comgateway and they are preparing to ship it to malaysia. I used express delivery, the fee was USD 114. Don't know how fast it will be delivered, but i probably don't expect to get it this week.

weight was bout 8.6kg, pretty heavy.

The experience was quite tense as GenTech was unable to give me a proper tracking for my delivery and further more, they used FedEX instead of UPS 3 day as originally stated in my invoice.
They say it's faster but when i finally looked at the tracking, it was no difference (still 3 days, 5 days to be exact, was sent on last friday), maybe they're cutting cost by using the cheaper fedex, i don't know but I was not too pleased.

another thing is that i wanted them to check for dead pixels and any other abnormalies before sending. I doubt they've done it since they delivered on last friday. We'll see when i get my package.

also, can anyone that used comgateway confirm if they use DHL to deliver? it was not stated in my comgateway invoice.

yea... i think i'm going to order the G53Jw within this week... just a question on payment... I can't use my credit card in Malaysia... So have to set up a paypal account and pay using paypal? Or should I use the comgateway service to pay for it? 10% cannot afford....

last time i bought from Gentech Pc, I paid cash, using Maybank TT(Telegraphic Transfer)...

I can't get a 3% discount using the TT right? and how long does it take to clear the TT payment?
(so far this is what i plan... G53Jw with bluray upgrade, shipping using standard comgateway shipping. The box is 8kg, So the shipping cost should be 70 US)
hopefully the total will be under 5.3k MYR

about the 3% discount, i dunno now...but last time when i bought my unit, I got the 3% discount using TT. With Maybank i takes about 3 working days... why not try Western Union, some of my frens said it's better n faster than Maybank.... I think your total cost could be under RM5.3k, assuming USD doesn't goes up drastically..hehehehehe
