There are several interesting events took place in this tournament. First of all there was a little dispute happened between the eventual champion, Team InC-NewComer and Team 1Team1Dream(e2). It was an intense game and a crowd puller match. In the beginning of the game, InC-NewComer seemed to be on the upper hand. However Team 1Team1Dream(e2) never gave out and managed to level the game play. In the middle of a critical gang fight where the outcome may result in victory, suddenly the game experienced lag/hang and eventually one of InC-NewComer's player got disconnected due to technical error from the host. At that point, both teams has equal chance to win the game. The game was immediately paused and there both teams started "discuss/suggest/discuss" solutions. Long story short, both teams agreed for rematch which InC-NewComer turned out to be the victorious team and moved on to grab the champion spot.

Other than that, there was a young team which played to their 'heart' during their match. It was a very delightful moment to watch Team [S.W.T] played because they were the nosiest team among all. Even though the lost their match pretty badly but they seemed to enjoy the competition very much. Other teams as usual played very seriously and discussed tactics/strategies/decisions during real time competition. Another interesting sight is that there was a left handed player in Team GnR. It was actually my first time witnessing and left handed Dota player and it actually made my day.

On the 17th August 2010, the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 crews leave the office heading to Johor Bahru. The journey was smooth but it was a rainy whether. As the vehicle was loaded with the tournamenet materials, we drove slowly and after 6 hours journey we finally reached our destination. Firstly we headed to the organising Cyber Cafe, Blue Dolphin in Taman Universiti, Skudai to make a final check. Upon reaching there, we were welcomed with a very 'unfortunate' news from Mr. James Lee, the Blue Dolphin Cyber Cafe branch Manager. We were shown a notice from Tenaga Nasional Berhad that on 18th August 2010, supposedly the tournament day there will be inteference to the electricity in the area from 9:00 Am to 5:00 PM. Long story short, we decided to move the location of the tournament to the nearest sponsered Cyber Cafe which was the Blue Ocean in Nusajaya. Immediately participating teams were informed of the change.

The Johor Bahru (Blue Ocean) Qualifying Leg started on time as the participating teams were punctual to register themselves in Blue Ocean. As usual, each participants was given an Tournament T-Shirt and Avira Internet Premium Suite together with a Avira Car Sticker in a Avira Eco-bag. This time, the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 started immediately after our Game Marshal, Mr. Zen Mok briefed. After the participating teams moved to their designated location and setup the PC with their own gaming gears, the tournament took off straight away.

Similar to the KL State Qualifier, the live demo of OverClocked System vs Default System will be a regular 'side event' for for this MSI Dota Tournament 2010. Once again, both setups were identical where the only difference was the mainboard. People are given the opportunity to experience the difference between an OverClocked System vs Default System in gaming. But this time we tried something different. The Final of the Johor Bahru (Blue Ocean) Qualifier was between Team [LeaP-Gaming] versus Team NetSurf.DdZ. According to Team [LeaP-Gaming] Team Captain, Chong "[LeaP-DyN4sT-|" Jian Sheng, the current roster consists of 3 existing team members combining with 2 team members from Team SWG. Both Loh "[LeaP]-XmX Wei Hong and Tan "[LeaP]-DiKuanTo" Zhong Kang from Team SWG joined force with Team [LeaP-Gaming] for this MSI Dota Tournament 2010. Team [LeaP-Gaming] has already been around for 1-2 years in Dota. Currently they are still looking for sponsors for their team. I believe for people who frequent plays in GCC Client is definitely familiar with the tag [LeaP]. They usually hang around in Clan War 1 (Malaysia) in GCC Client. As for Team NetSurf.DdZ, they are a newly sponsored team by NetSurf Cyber Cafe in Taman Molek led by Calvin "NetSurf-TTTiRA" Yong. This is their first time playing together competitively. Both Calvin "NetSurf-TTTiRA" Yong and Chris "NetSurf-RRRush" Ho were actually ex-Team NGL. They gathered together 3 days a week for traning. And finally, Team [LeaP-Gaming] managed to beat Team NetSurf.DdZ to grab the qualification to the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Team [LeaP-Gaming] - Sentinal
Pick: Necro'lic, Witch Doctor, Windrunner, Earth Shaker, Priestess of the Moon

Team NetSurf.DdZ - Scourge

MSI Dota Tournament - Johor Bahru (Ocean City) Media Report

Ocean City, No. 41 & 43, Jalan Bayu Puteri 1/2, Taman Bayu Puteri, Johor Bahru.

Date: 19th August 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: Ocean City, Taman Bayu Puteri
Address: No. 41 & 43, Jalan Bayu Puteri 1/2, Taman Bayu Puteri, Johor Bahru.
Participating Teams: Dg, PUI, OmG, Surf, [2.o]. Dota PK, Lo|z, Ex-Gaming.

19th August 2010 is Day II for the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 Johor Bahru State Qualifier took place in Ocean City Cyber Cafe. The crews woke up a little late today as it we were very tired in Day I event. However, we still managed to reach Ocean City at around 1:00 PM for preparation and setup. Once again, it was a rainy day but the competitive mood was still unaffected. As usual, the Participating Teams were punctual to register themselves for the tournament. Some already waiting in Ocean City as early as 12:00 PM. However, there was one team that didn't make it to the event, Team DPC-Gaming due to transportation difficulties. Therefore, Team Ex-Gaming who standby for drop-out team took DPC-Gaming slot for the tournament.

The Participating Teams were quite different compared to the Teams yesterday. It seemed that they are more 'lively' judging from the 'noise' they produced even before the tournament officially got started. Their 'eagerness' really pleased us all and it was a precious encouragement to the crews deep down in our heart. They were very happy and grateful to receive a free Tournament T-Shirt and Avira Internet Premium Suite plus goodies. The tournament was smooth going from the start until the end.

The Final of the Johor Bahru (Ocean City) State Qualifier was between Team Dg versus Team OmG. Kudos to Team OmG that despite being the youngest team, they still managed to qualify to the final. In the earlier round agains Team Lo|z, they used push-strategy and finished the game in around 15 minutes time. Among the heroes used were Broodmother and Keeper of the Light. There were 3 players aged 14 in the team and this was their first competitive tournament. The team originated from Taman Pelangi and Taman Bayu Puteri. After this tournament, it is unsure whether they will still stick together as a team. On the other hand, Team Dg was among the powerhouse in Johor Bahru. According to their team captain, Ooi "Dg`Xiao.sHun" Cheen Soon, Team Dg was formed 10 months ago for a Dota League organised by our own Blue Ocean Cyber Cafe. They are actually students from the same school, Foon Yew High School. Currently they have no sponsors and would like to have one like others. Finally, Team Dg managed to beat Team OmG and qualifying to the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Team OmG - Sentinal
Ban: Morphling, Demon Witch, Necrolyte, Vengeful Spirit
Pick: Slithereen Guard, Rogue Knight, Witch Doctor, Storm Spirit, Omniknight

Team Dg - Scourge
Ban: Earthshaker, Crystal Maiden, Shadow Shaman, Pandaren Brewmaster
Pick: Sand King, Tidehunter, Bane Elemental, Priestess of the Moon, Doom Bringer

MSI Dota Tournament - Johor Bahru (Blue Ocean - Round II) Media Report

user posted image
Blue Ocean, No. 7 & 9, Jalan Bestari 1/4, Nusa Bestari, Nusajaya.

Date: 20th August 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: Blue Ocean, Nusajaya
Address: No. 7 & 9, Jalan Bestari 1/4, Nusa Bestari, Nusajaya Johor Bahru.
Participating Teams: Kingsurf-JJ, Excuse Gaming, Holy, xT, NVSA, E.D, Asoka, Luismar1996.

There were 3 State Qualifier for Johor Bahru Leg, and the Blue Ocean State Qualifier on 20th August 2010 was the last one. Due to the Electricity Interference notice by TNB at Blue Dolphin in Taman University, we had no choice but to organize 2 State Qualifier in Blue Ocean, Nusajaya. This time, our vehicle was not as 'heavy' as before because a lot of free gives and goodies has been given out. And of course, the unloading process for the tournament setup became easier. However, the crews tiredness and fatigue has increased naturally.

Before we get started, i would really like to take this opportunity to introduce the OC Group which was the location sponsor for the Johor State Qualifer tournament. The first outlet of the group is located at Taman Century since 1999. The outlet was named Oceannet Cafe and there was where the OC Group was born. Currently they have a total of 9 Cyber Cafes in Johor Bahru area under different names namely Oceannet, Blue Dolphin, Ocean City, Sky Empire, Blue Ocean, etc. The biggest outlet is located at Taman Nusa Bestari, sporting 206 units of PC and the rest are around 50 to 150 PC. The OC Group has also expanded their business to Malacca since 2009 with 4 Cyber Cafes.

Besides operating Cyber Cafe, the OC Group also provides Consultation Services particularly in Cyber Cafe Management and Technical issues. Currently they have 4 Cyber Cafes using their services. According the Mr. James Lee, Manager of 7 Cyber Cafe of OC Group, their company management goal is to provide customer a comfortable environment, friendly staff and good internet speed so that everyone will enjoy a pleasant time in any of their outlets. Therefore they provide all ind of internet accessories such as webcam, headset, card-reader, blue-tooth, etc for customer convenience. Last but not least, they provide printing service as well.

There were nothing special for this round of qualifier except that we were greeted by ex-Kingsurf players namely Papaxiong and Xiaoma. In the beginning, we couldn't recognize Papaxiong at all as it has been quite sometime we see him play in competitive tournaments. And most of all, he sports a new look now without the long hair and glasses. Other than that, Kingsurf-JJ who actually notify us they may not make it to the tournament due to one of their member had official school duty. But luckily they did turn out for the tournament. There were 2 Malay Teams participating for this qualifier round.

Before we duel into the Final of Johor State (Blue Ocean II) State Qualifier, let's look into one of the Semi-Final first. In the lower part of the Semi-Final bracket, Team Kingsurf-JJ met Team LuisMar1996. To clear the cloud, Kingsurf-JJ is not related to the famous Kingsurf Team which is currently merged with Nirvana. My forming Ks.Nirvana. The only common thing betwen them is that both were sponsored by Kingsurf Cyber Cafe but Kingsurf-JJ is sponsored by the Johor Jaya branch which is managed by a different manager while the actual Kingsurf is sponsored by the Taman Pelangi branch. As for Team LuisMar1996, the team consists of players who bear the tag Ks-Papaxiong and Ks-Xiaoma before. So naturally it was an exciting showdown everyone was anticipating.

Team LuisMar1996 - Sentinel
Ban: Phantom Lancer, Slithereen Guard, Witch Doctor, Obsidian Destroyer
Pick: Demon Witch, Vengeful Spirit, Oblivion, Tidehunter, Drow Ranger

Team Kingsurf-JJ - Scourge
Ban: Broodmother, Alchemist, Enigma, Necro'lic
Pick: Storm Spirit, Earthshaker, Shadow Fiend, Crystal Maiden, Morphling

The game started with an early first blood at the very first minute by Team LuisMar1996. Led by Papaxiong who was using Vengeful Spirit with Tidehunter, Demon Witch and Drow Ranger marched to the bottom-side river near the rune area. They managed to kill Morphling for first blood. Although they had a great start, in the early-mid game they seemed to be on the losing end when their opponent's Shadow Fiend played by Ks.JJ'L.Y.-| bought Black King Bar after Power Threads at 16 minutes mark. Before that Ks.JJ'L.Y.-| got a couple of kills thanks to Storm Spirit's Eletric Vortex skill. After Kingsurf-JJ's Shadow Fiend has 'enough' items to practically control the game, it was Morphling turn to farm and eventually their items seemed 'more' complete. Therefore, Team Kingsurf-JJ score victory against Team LuisMar1996 convincingly.

In the Final, it was between Team Kingsurf-JJ and Team Excuse Gaming. According to Team Captain, Chong 'Ks'cce.JJ' Cheng Yen, Team Kingsurf-JJ current roster has 6 players and he will be competing in the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur. When asked who will be the remaining team member who couldn't make it to the State Qualifier, we was shocked once the person nickname was mentionend. He was with Mineski, INC^Excello, Cybertime, Kingsurf.LGD before joining Kingsurf-JJ. Yes, you are correct, he is David 'XXF (XiaoXiaoFong)' Yin Fong. Team Kingsurf-JJ trains around 6 hours everyday and is serious to be professional Dota players. Not only they train regularly, they often study replay and discuss about picks, strategies, etc. There are 2 ex-Team MSK member forming the 1-2 months old team, Chong 'Ks'cce.JJ' Cheng Yen and Elvin "Ks.Fate.JJ" Ong. This MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is the first competition they participated as a team. 4 of the team members are studying in Foon Yew High School while the remaining one is studying in Johor Jaya II High School. Looks like Foon Yew High School produced quite a number of Dota Talents judging on Team Kingsurf-JJ and Team Dg.On the other hand, Team Excuse Gaming was a very young team with 4 team members at the age of 14. They seemed to be a very quiet team and group to their own during and after play. Similar to many others, MSI Dota Tournament was the first competition for them. According to Team Captian, Kwong "Excuse'wP^kWz-" Wei Quan, they signed-up for this tournament just to gain experience. Of course in future, they would like to be professional Dota Players. Team Kingsurf-JJ managed to beat Excuse Gaming and qualify themselves to the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Team Kingsurf-JJ - Sentinel
Ban: Beastmaster, Broodmother, Alchemist, Dark Seer
Pick: Vengeful Spirit, Admiral, Drow Ranger, Oblivion, Witch Doctor

Team Excuse Gaming - Scourge
Ban: Gorgon, Doom Bringer, Necro'lic, Storm Spirit
Pick: Earthshaker, Demon Witch, Windrunner, Morphling, Priestess of the Moon

Before we end here, allow me to share some insight from Papaxiong as i believe there are still fans of his out there. And definitely I am one of them! According to Papaxiong, the current roster that participated in this MSI Dota Tournament will be his regular roster. When asked whether if he still considers himself as a competitive Dota Player, he answered yes but now he prefer to team-up with close friends. Currently he is still thinking of a Team Name and he will only announce it once they managed to obtain good results. Wondering why they registered the Team as LuisMar1996? Actually Luis Mar is the actual name of Xiaoma. As for the future plannings for this current roster, he said that he will participate in any Dota Competition possible. So we could safely conclude that most probably he will be seen in the SMM State Qualifier which is going to take place in Johor Bahru in no time. When asked is there any 'famous' team looking to recruit him, he said yes but declined to reveal any of them.

MSI Dota Tournament - Malacca (XGL Cyber Cafe) Media Report

XGL Cyber Cafe, No. G11/1-11 Jalan Rahmat 1 Taman Malim Jaya 75250 Melaka.

Date: 25th August 2010
Time: 1400
Venue: XGL Cyber Cafe
Address: No. G11/1-11 Jalan Rahmat 1 Taman Malim Jaya 75250 Melaka.
Participating Teams: XGL, Kumpulan Ganas, Waker, Buddy F, Animal Team, Aladdin, Expendabl3, Y4kuZ4, 1Tradezone.My, Sapu King, Ferrari, Zero Hour, Nirvana.My.

On 24th August 2010, once again the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 crews packed the usual stuffs and headed to our next location, Malacca. Unlike the Johor Bahru journey, it was quite hot this time. But definitely the journey was shorter. Long story short, upon arriving Malacca, we checked out all 3 Cyber Cafes just to make sure everything is in order. At around 11pm, Mr. Liven Liew received a call registering Team Nirvana. My for the last remaining slot.

The MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Malacca State Qualifier kicked off in XGL Cyber Cafe and it has the largest participants so far. The official maximum Team Slots was actually 8 but due to the large response in both Internet and Cyber Cafe registration, we had no choice but to host the tournament with 14 teams. But Team Mat7 Chicken Leg didn't make it to the tournament without any notification. As there were 14 slots for the tournament, therefore the fixture has one "first round bye" slot. After much consideration from the MSI Organising Crews, they decided not to 'seed' any teams. The logic behind this decision is that end of the day there will be only one team qualified for the Grand Final. So the Participating Teams were requested to 'draw-lots' and the lucky one will get the "first round bye" slot barring any favouritism. As there were only 31 User PC in the XGL Cyber Cafe, we decided to use the OverClocked System and Default System as game hosting rig. Therefore, there wasn't a OverClocked System vs Default System Demo we did in any other State Qualifier.

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Malacca (XGL Cyber Cafe) State Qualifier was between Team Nirvana. My and Team Zero Hour. Team Zero Hour, hail from Muar is formed for around 6 months led by Ong "Zero.Hour-BadJojo" Kok Yang. Team Zero Hour current roster has 6 players and usually trains everday for around 5-6 hours. According to Team Captain, the prefered replays they study are from Team EHome and LGD.sGty. They seemed to be a very committed team judging from the hours spent on training. Currently they have yet to find a sponsor and still in search for one. After this MSI Dota Tournament, their main focus would be SMM Qualification.

As for Nirvana. My, allow me to clear any confusion. According to Team Captain Chai "Nirvana.MuShI-|" Yee Fung, Kingsurf no longer the sponsor of the team. Therefore from now onwards, their team name will be changed back to Nirvana.My. I guess further introduction of Nirvana. My is not needed. Barring any upset, Team Nirvana. My qualified to the Grand Final after beating Team Zero Hour with Chai "Nirvana.MuShI-|" Yee Fung using Ursa Warrior, one of his trademark hero.

Team Zero Hour - Sentinel
Ban: Broodmother, Oblivion, Witch Doctor, Templar Assassin
Pick: Gorgon, Earthshaker, Shadow Fiend, Crystal Maiden, Slithereen Guard

Team Nirvana.My - Scourge
Ban: Necro'lic, Doom Bringer, Alchemist, Storm Spirit
Pick: Vengeful Spirit, Demon Witch, Windrunner, Stone Giant, Ursa Warrior

During the Johor State Qualifier, i covered a simple interview of Papaxiong. This time Chai "Nirvana.MuShI-|" Yee Fung was kind enough to provide me some insight of current Nirvana. My information. Before that, Nirvana.MuShI-| was actually a camera-shy guy but he was not at all the 'b****ie-professional" guy. He often jokes and would like to push his Captain responsibility to his Team Members especially Joel "Nirvana.XTiNcT" Chan when it comes to handling 'media.' I must say he was very down-to-earth guy. Same goes to Nirvana. My members. At first they look 'serious' during registration and kept to themselves most of the time. However after the tournament over, we found that they were just as 'normal' as the others. In short, they are very easy-going as whole.

As Kingsurf is no longer part of the sponsor as mentioned earlier, Ks.Nirvana Team Name is now changed to Nirvana.My. Therefore for this MSI Dota Tournament 2010, the official Team Name registered is Nirvana.My. According to Nirvana.MuShI-|, the current roster for Nirvana. My are he himself, Nirvana.XTiNcT, Nirvana.Ice and Nirvana.Net. The fifth player to bear the tag Nirvana. My will only be revealed soon, very soon. As for Ng "YamateH" Wei Poong, he is currently taking a break for competitive DotA. Nirvana.MuShI-| said there will be an official statement from NirvanaSport regarding this matter soon, once again very soon. He added that currently "Yamateh" is focusing more on coaching Team Ladies. Nirvana.MuShI-| will resume his Captaincy of Nirvana. My and also will be playing the role of drafter together with Nirvana.XTiNcT.

Nirvana.MuShI-| Shoutout: "Nirvana.XTiNcT so handsome!!"

I believe in future the organising committee will adopt this method as it is believed as the 'fairest' way. Here we would like to take this opportunity to thank iRelax Manager for helping us from start until the end for assistance on technical issues. During this qualifier round, we experienced some lag/hang on some PCs. Therefore, we couldn't save some of the replays due to reload from 'save file.' Once again, we decided to make used of the OverClocked System and Default System as gaming host rig to fully make used of the 20 PCs.

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Malacca (iRelax Cyber Cafe) State Qualifier was between Team iRelax and TTT. The Semifinal and Final games were hosted in a different way. Due to technical issue of some PCs, we had no choice but to put both competing teams side by side. Of course, we obtained both Team Captains consent beforehand. Team TTT, consist of 4 players from Muar and the remaining one and also Team Captain is from Johor Bahru, Teo "TTT.Czack" Chang Chi. They just graduated from college and currently taking their time off. Initially they registered themselves as Team HelloKitty but after furthur confirmation, the called themselves Team TTT. According to Teo "TTT.Czack" Chang Chi, previously he and Yap "TTT-Bkk" were actually part of Team MSK/NGL together with both Chong 'Ks'cce.JJ' Cheng Yen and Elvin "Ks.Fate.JJ" Ong from Kingsurf-JJ. As for the current Team TTT, they were actually a very newly formed team but it will remain permanant for the moment from here onwards. For this MSI Dota 2010 Tournament, they only trained once around 2 weeks ago through GCC Client. Currently they are looking for sponsors in order to stay competitively in DotA.

As for Team iRelax, the team members were mixture of iRelax 1 and iRelax 2 with the addition of ex Ks-Sakura. Their sponsor, iRelax Cyber Cafe has 2 teams under their wing and has been sponsoring iRelax 1 for around 4 years. Team iRelax usually only participate in local competitions unless they have time of outstation competitions. According to Team Captain, Mohd Fitri "iRelax.GeneralFit" Razak also known as Flizzardo, Team iRelax is actually inactive currently. This is because of busy schedule of Team Members to spare quality time for trainings or even competitions. Nevertheless, we are still able to see iRelax action in the upcoming SMM Dota Competition 2010 and also MSI Dota Tournament 2010 Grand Final. Lastly but not least, Team iRelax was victorious against Team TTT and qualify for the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur on the 3rd October 2010.

Team TTT (HelloKitty) - Sentinel
Ban: Necro'lic, Enigma, Alchemist, Oblivion
Pick: Storm Spirit, Crystal Maiden, Windrunner, Rogue Knight, Gorgon
Details: SS = RRRRRR, CM = Czack, WR = BKK, RK = Yingci, Gorgon = Xiaobao

Team iRelax - Scourge
Ban: Tidehunter, Doom Bringer, Broodmother, Storm Spirit
Pick: Demon Witch, Vengeful Spirit, Beast Master, Necrolyte, Drow Ranger
Details: DW = GeneralFit, VS = ZeroStar, Beast Master = Zell, Necrolyte = Sakura, Drow Ranger = iceman

Up Close and Personal - Former Ks-Sakura

user posted image

So far i had covered 2 simple interviews with Papaxiong and Nirvana.MuShI-|. Today i covered Former Kingsurf player Sakura. As i was never an e-sport reporter or involved with any kind of media report apart of documentary shooting, this MSI Dota Tournament 2010 media report is actually my first encounter and it is mainly out of personal interest. Please do excuse me if it is not up on par compared with professional e-sport media reports. Here i would really like to that MSI Malaysia for giving me the opportunity to cover this event and also the 'Malaysia DotA Celebrity' (at least to me) for giving me the privilege to 'interview' them.

1. Why do you pick 'Sakura' as your DotA nickname?
When i started to play DotA, the cinema was airing Para Para Sakura acted by Aaron Kwok and i watched it. So there goes my Nickname up until now.

2. On and off you were seen to be playing alongside Yamateh. But it was just a brief stint. What happened?
It is mainly becuase of my girlfriend, Feon. I couldn't concentrate both at one time. And i treasure her alot. So it is a simple choice. I have not been playing DotA for around 2 months and this MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is the first competition i participated after that long period.

3. Is there any possibility in future we will be able to witness Yamateh and Sakura playing together again?
Actually Yamateh just called me yesterday planning to form a new team. Everything is not official yet but it is only the matter of time.

4. So is it confirmed that Yamateh is no longer with Nirvana. My?
Actually Yamateh decided to retire from Competitive Dota due to fatigue from though training schedules. According to him, the team that i mentioned earlier is just for fun without though trainings. Initial plan is that we will just participate DotA competitions just to enjoy the fun of playing DotA. We may even participate in tournaments without any training at all. So it suits me as i am able to spend quality time with Feon biggrin.gif

5. Besides you, who else will be part of the team?
As for now are me myself, Yamateh, xyz, WhoKnowMyName and MNG-PK. At the very moment, we are in the process of contacting Papaxiong.

6. Am i correct to say that the Team Name is still not decided.
Yes, you are correct.

7. How soon will we be able to see this team in action?
SMM Johor State Qualifier, maybe?

8. Which is your favourite hero?
First will be Storm because he can fly, i hope i can fly too. Second will be SF because when i play SF i earn money very fast, and it's for Feon. tongue.gif

9. How do you think about the current Nirvana. My and Aeon.SG?
Close 2 eyes can 'sapu' Nirvana. My, especially Mushi becuase i know how to make Mushi emo. XG...
As for Aeon.SG, they are very weak because got IceIceIce, haha...

Sanko, even though you admit it's your first encounter of e-sports reportage, I personally felt that you have done a very good job. Glad to see some personal close-ups during the tournament.

Keep it up and hopefully this kind of reportage would create interest and awareness on e-Sports to the public smile.gif

How about posting it at MSI Gaming official website?

TPK: that's one of the most beautiful words i have ever receive during my years of doing simple reviews/events. even though it's not gaming events as this is my very first gaming event. i deeply appreciate it. thank you and it will motivate me to do it even better in the upcoming events in Penang, Selangor, etc. btw, your request has been fulfilled. check out gaming.msi.com.

La_DottA: thank you very much, and actually i frequent Akicom as my friend stays in Cheras and usually we always hang out together to play DotA (i'm a noob player to be honest here).

LiLFreaK: you may have wait till monday/tuesday. just for your information, my reportage concept is simple. 'today's event must be reported before the start of next event.' Therefore the first and second state qualifier is always the fastest where immediately i'll update it after the event once i reached hotel. johor i did the same so same goes to Malacca.

Side info:
I'm actually invited by MSI Malaysia to perform OverClocking Demo during the event. If you notice that in my report there's a section where i touched on 'OverClocked System vs Default System.' That's my main job actually. What MSI and me are trying to achieve here is to show gamers the difference between them. long story short, if you purchase a PC and overclocked it just a little, you may get better performance in gaming. that's what we are trying to educate people who attends this event.

So for the media reportage, i did it out of my interest of Dota and offered this service to MSI Malaysia along with my OverClock responsibility. i have been following the Dota news since 2-3 years ago. but i'm just a regular guy who love dota and not a pro player. and i'm not the Marshal for this event. i only did help out on 'hosting/creating' the game and a little technical assistance as i'm into both PC Hardware and Dota. So they came in handy. however, regarding the issue of Sakura saga and a player registered for more than 1 qualifier rounds, i'll provide a full report in the Dreamworld coverage to clear the cloud.

antx: nope, i guess my reply to LiLFreaK has explain it. same goes to JB Qualifier - Day 3. i posted it on Monday/Tuesday (cannot remember), not immediately after the event like Day 1 and 2. Honestly speaking, i had every information gathered. based on my own since i was there from the start till the end, and also based on the tournament Marshal. i guess i could sum it up anytime. but i would really like to take a day or two off for my personal life. hehe...

MSI Dota Tournament - Malacca (DreamWorld) Media Report

user posted image
No.86-C, Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, 75000 Bukit Cina, Melaka.

Date: 27th August 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: Dreamworld Cyber Cafe
Address: No.86-C, Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, 75000 Bukit Cina, Melaka.
Participating Teams: Trinity, Dompet PVC, ReD, I-Zone, CAL-TEX, pHGp, Alone, yB.mY Gaming

27th August was the final day of Malacca State Qualifier took place in Dreamworld Cyber Cafe. So far i have been helping with the tourney from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and now Malacca. Today was the worst of all. Don't get me wrong, what i mean here is that I was in the most worn-out situation. I couldn't even take pictures, causing Mr. Liven Liew had to take up the photographer responsibility. I only managed to help a little in set-up and standby for any technical fault to be attended. I barely could hold on to my feet. However, the rest of the crews basically helped on covering each other, as always and eventually the tourney in Dreamworld was successfully organized. Everyone seems to be happy (at least from what i see in their expression) and we didn't receive any complaints or negative feedback. By the way, since State Qualifier in XGL Cyber Cafe the organizing team decided use 'draw-lots' method for the placing of each participating team. It may be the permanent method to be used in coming State Qualifier since we found that it was the fairest way.

The Dreamworld Cyber Cafe was packed with participants since 2:00 PM and everyone was waiting for registration. There was no drop out for this round of qualifier and every team came for the competition. At around 3:00PM to 3:30PM the competition officially kicked-start after the marshal briefed each Team Captain, as usual. There was a little technical issue in the beginning but luckily it was during the drafting stage, so remake was made possible. However, we ran out of lady luck during the clash between CAL-TEX and pHGp. "pGHp.DUno" playing Storm Spirit got disconnected due his PC 'hang' during end game period and it was a very close fight. Either team could win the match. Since the PC hang and restarted, the last 'save file' could not be retrieved in most of the Cyber Cafe 'go-back' system management.

Team CAL-TEX - Sentinel
Pick: Shadow Fiend, Death Prophet, Witch Doctor, Necro'lic, Venomancer

Team pHGp - Scourge
Pick: Crystal Maiden, Lifestealer, Storm Spirit, Vengeful Spirit, Gorgon

Team pHGp seemed to be playing 2 solo strategy with Storm Spirit and Gorgon solo in both top and middle lane respectively. Storm Spirit was against Shadow Fiend in middle lane. At the 29th minutes mark, Storm Spirit got disconnected from the game with a noticeable Black King Bar. And the kills between two teams were equally even at 10 each but Team CAL-TEX had 3 tower more than team pHGp. Our Marshal called upon both Team Captain and briefed them accordingly. Long story short, both teams agreed to carry on the game with team pHGp playing with the 4 remaining players. At that time, Gorgon had Linken's Sphere and Manta Style while Lifestealer had Kellen's Dagger and Sange and Yasha. Immediately upon continue, team CAL-TEX stormed into the top lane successfully taking out the tower and raxs. Although pHGp seemed to be in the losing end, but they were persistent and keep on fighting. Eventually pHGp claimed victory with Gorgon complete with Boots of Travel, Linken's Sphere, Manta Style, The Butterfly and Helm of Dominator. On the other hand, Lifestealer had Cranium Basher, Assault Cuirass, Kellen's Dagger and Sange and Yasha.

At this round of Malacca State Qualifer (Dreamworld Cyber Cafe) Qualifier, it was between Team ReD and Team pHGp. According to Team Captain, Goh "pHGp.CryVatioN" Chen Chee, the team has been around for 6 months and usually play together in ET Cyber Cafe located in Jalan Ong Kim Wee. When asked what is the meaning of the team name, it's Play Hard Go Pro. Due to their working live, unlike most of the professional teams, the didn't indulge in heavy training schedules. There are 3 core members in the team who are school friends and they played together since then. After this MSI Dota Tournament 2010, their next target will be SMM Selangor in the quest of gunning down a ticket to the SMM Grand Finals. On the other hand, Team ReD is quite an interesting team. According to Team Captain, Sarathbabu "ReD.Tienhoven" Ramani the team was formed 2 hours before the competition. 2 'actual' players for Team ReD couldn't make it to the competition. There was where CZack and Joker came into picture through friends/gamers network. CZack from Team TTT who took the 1st runner-ups in the previous iRelax Cyber Cafe Qualifier Round was asked to play with Team ReD to win the ticket to the Grand Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. Just as a side information, according to the organizer only champion of any State Qualifier is prohibited to participate in the rest of Qualifier rounds. On other words, those who have qualified to the Grand Final is not allowed to play in any other Qualifier Rounds. Back to Team ReD, they were actually a competitive Counter Strike team some time around 5 years ago. They played against NBTD, Hybrid, GBR, etc during their prime time and had an achievement of 4th Placing in the VA Tournament. Sarathbabu "ReD.Tienhoven" Ramani added that this MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is actually his first competitive DotA Tournament. When asked how was it comparing to Counter Strike tournaments, immediately he responded that DotA is way better. He said DotA gave more freedom but it takes longer to finish. In DotA one can not lost focus and make any mistake, it would cause the game. He also credited the Marshal for being fair and friendly.

Team ReD managed to claim victory over Team pHGp during the Final and qualified to the Grand Final. Since this is the first effort from Team ReD 'switching' from Counter Strike to DotA, it was definitely a great achievement despite the had problems for each players 'role' to play accodring to Sarathbabu "ReD.Tienhoven" Ramani.

Team ReD - Sentinel
Ban: Broodmother, Gorgon, Necro'lic, Vengeful Spirit
Pick: Crystal Maiden, Shadow Fiend, Tidehunter, Phantom Lancer, Silencer

Team pHGp - Scourge
Ban: Oblivion, Alchemist, Demon Witch, Storm Spirit
Pick: Witch Doctor, Earthshaker, Windrunner, Faerie Dragon, Lifestealer

Official MSI Malaysia Statement

I had a great time in Malacca State Qualifier for the MSI Dota Tournament 2010. But it was only temporal as once i reached home, i was sadden by the Sakura, CZack and food saga. I immediately contacted Mr. Liven Liew to monitor the situation and together figure out a solution (as i'm kinda part of the organizing team as well biggrin.gif). As i'm quite an impatient person, i took the liberty contacting Sakura for clarification. As i was there during the tournament, i didn't witness Sakura touch any of the competing PCs. I only noticed him 'facebook' and played a game 1-on-1 with his friend through the Host PCs during Final. For your information, we used different PC to host the Final game. The next day, Sunday, Mr. Liven Liew called me that he will release a statement regarding the issues raised in a proper way. He indicated to me that he treats these issues very seriously and is ready to make the statement. He asked me to go to office for an 'interview' session on Monday. So here goes.

QUOTE(Liven Liew)
First of all I would like express my gratitude to the the gaming community especially gamers who participated in our very first MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Malaysia. Since completing Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and now Malacca State Qualifier Stages, we have received tremendous and encouraging feedbacks and this will only motivate us to do even better in the up-coming Qualifier Stages and Grand Finals. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the organising crews who worked hard enough to ensure everything is smooth-sailing.

In the recent event, it has come to my attention that there are few claims needed to be answered. Before I go any further, allow me to explain the main purpose of organising MSI Dota Tournament 2010 and I would really like to be totally honest here. Of course the main objective is for marketing and branding of MSI Hardware mainly Mainboards, Graphic Cards and Notebooks. Second is to provide an opportunity to gamers to have fun competing each other in a healthy way and eventually promoting Malaysia gaming industry to a higher level.

First and foremost, I would like to apologize on the misunderstanding in regards of a player/team registered or played for more than one Qualifier Stage. Since the very beginning, we decided to allow a player/team to participate more than one Qualifier Stage as long as they are not the Champion of any Qualifier Stage yet. In other words, one is allowed as many trial as possible to qualify to the Grand Final by claiming victory in any Qualifier Stage. That being said, it also depends on slot availability because priority will be given to other who registered only once. But once a player/team has qualifier to the Grand Final, they are not allowed to participate in any Qualifier Stage anymore. We did not make an official announcement on this clause is to minimize the possibility of mass registration as we would like to maintain 8 competing teams in each Qualifier Stage.

Secondly, we are currently investigating on claims that Sakura together with an unidentified individual replacing two Team ReD players during the Semifinal Match in Dreamworld Qualifier Stage, Malacca. We have contacted Dreamworld Cyber Cafe management to provide us video footage (CCTV) from 6:00PM - 8:00PM, 27 August 2010 to facilitate our investigation. However, we consider Team ReD victory is valid until it is proven otherwise. We urge anyone with any information to contact us as soon as possible. So far no evidence is supporting the claim. According to our Marshal, Sakura did not replace any of Team Red members at any time at all.

Apart of that, once again I would like to apologize to Participating Teams of iRelax Malacca Qualifier Stage because of the food provided was different from other Qualifier Stage. During the iRelax Qualifier, there were plenty of technical issue we had to attend to. For example location of Frozen Throne 1.24e, Warkey Installation, Game suffering lagness, etc. It was the only Qualifier Stage where we finished at around 11:00PM with 8 participating teams. We decided to provide 'economy rice' just opposite iRelax Cyber Cafe because we felt that the game play comes first. We did not want to risk the time to purchase McDonald which normally consumed 1 hour. So far delivery order from McDonald was not an option because of the size of purchase. Therefore we had to go to a McDonald branch and purchase our order there.

Finally the organizing committee would like to encourage the up-coming State Qualifier taking place in Penang and Selangor to try your best and most importantly, enjoy the game and have fun!

MSI Dota Tournament - Penang (FTZ ASiA.net - Round I) Media Report

Date: 3rd September 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: FTZ ASiA.net, Abu Siti Lane.
Address: No. 28A, Ground Floor, Abu Siti Lane, 10400 Penang.
Participating Teams: Expect the Unexpected (xTu), United We Stand (uWs), FTZ, Bao Bao Pro (EXCL), W2, Scyther, MOS, wT-origins.

Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang was a real deal. By reaching the destination, the crew felt that the mission is accomplished. But for me, i was fortunate enough that driving was not my responsibility, as i only sleep through the journey, as usual. The first Qualifier Round for Penang State Qualifier was held in FTZ ASiA.net, Abu Siti Lane which is also where the main office of FTZ Group located. If we browse through the official MSI Dota Tournament 2010 schedule, all 3 Qualifier Round for Penang State Qualifier will take place in FTZ Cyber Cafes. Similar to the Johor State Qualifier Leg where all 3 rounds were held in OC Group Cyber Cafes.

In FTZ ASiA.net I, there was none technical issue. All the games were smoothly hosted. We were given the whole 2nd floor for the event. However, there was a small problem during registration. On the day itself, we received 2 additional registration last minute resulting in 10 teams all together. Long story short, we managed to slot in the 2 additional teams into Day II tournament as it was not full after final minute confirmation.

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Penang (FTZ ASiA.net I) State Qualifier was between Team Expect the Unexpected (xTu) and Team Bao Bao Pro who later on requested to change their Team Name to Team EXcel. After their lost to Team xTu, they registered for the 3rd round qualifier which will be taking place in Butterworth on the 5th September 2010. As for Team xTu, the Team Captain is no other than David "xTu.XiaoXiaoFong" Soon who formerly was part of the reknowned Kingsurf and Nirvana.My. Apart of him, Team xTu has quite a number of Penang DotA Star Player namely Lim "xTu.MikeBz" Tze Khai formerly from Team FTZ. Among the team members, only Khor "XiaoKaze" Kai Zhi is relatively new to Competitive DotA. Only Lim "MikeBz" Tze Khai is residing in Penang Island while the rest are residing in Butterworth. This MSI Dota 2010 Tournament is their first competitive tournament together and next, the Akicom Open DotA Tournament 2010 which will take place in AKICOM Cyber Cafe in Taman Connaught, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Up Close and Personal - XiaoXiaoFong

user posted image

It has been quite long since we hear any news about David "XiaoXiaoFong" Soon. After his annoucement of retirement, there's nothing much that we can dig in the internet regarding him. Same with Ng "Sakura" Kim Jen, here's the Up Close and Personal with David "XiaoXiaoFong" Soon.

1. Why do you pick 'XiaoXiaoFong' as your DotA nickname?
When i was registering my nick for GCC Client, there wasn't many using 'Xiao' as their nickname. While 'Fong' is actually my chinese name. So registered "XiaoXiaoFong" but now GCC Client is full of members using 'Xiao' as their nickname.

2. After we concluded the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Johor State Qualifier, Kingsurf-JJ announced that you will be in their roster. How come now you are playing with Team Expect the Unexpected (xTu)?
As for now, I would like to prove Penang State strength in Malaysia Competitive Dota scene. Therefore Team xTu consists of full Penang players. As for Kingsurf-JJ, I will be playing with them in the up-coming Johor State SMM Qualifier.

3. So are you currently back to the Competitivbe DotA scene?
I'm pretty serious on Team xTu and next we are heading to AKICOM Open DotA Tournament 2010 with them. But mostly now i play DotA for fun. Currently I am with Team xTu.

4. In the MSI Dota Tournament 2010, who will take the last slot for Team xTu?
xiGz.

5. After your retirement annoucement, what have you been doing?
Actually now i spend more time on HON. Honestly i prefer HON compared to DotA.

Address: No. 102, GF, Taman Tunas Muda, Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The MSI Dota Tournament 2010 crew had an early breakfast and took off to Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas for the second Penang State Qualifier held in FTZ ASiA.net Cyber Cafe there. Due to the fact that our Hotel's Internet was down on the day before, I had no choice but to do my write-ups in FTZ ASiA.net just beside the PCs used for the tournament. As for this round of qualifier, apart of iG-Ice participating, to our surprise one of the Top Female DotA player in Malaysia participated as well. Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin, arguably one of the best female DotA players in the scene, played for Team Mage Pro. Personally after witnessing her game play, there was no doubt that she is as strong as her male counterparts or even better. The petite cutie hail from Penang Island occasionally would participate DotA Tournament especially Local Tournaments. Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin has quite a number of achivements notably SMM Kuala Lumpur Qualifier 2009 runners-ups and being invited by Team PMS|Asterisk* for the Iron Lady DotA Tournament 2010 held in Shanghai, China and eventually turned out to be the Champion of the tournament.

Throughout the whole tournament, there was one match that really caught my attention. It was the semifinal match between Team Mage Pro and Team SP2. As mentioned above, Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin was playing for Team Mage together with Loh "Andy" Chun Wei who often appear alongside Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin in local competitions. According to Loh "Andy" Chun Wei, Team Captain, Team Mage Pro was formed 2 days ago prior to the MSI Dota Tournament 2010. All team members are residing in Penang Island. When asked what is the meaning of the Team Name, he indicated that they often make used of a team member Nickname as their Team Name in competitions. Similar to team Shizuma Pro which was SMM Qualifier - Kuala Lumpur 2009 runner-ups, this time they picked Soo "Mage" Wei Ying as their Team Name rather than Shizuma.

The clash between Team Mage Pro and Team SP2 is my personal favorite game of the day. Firstly Team Mage Pro action cought our attention where they make used of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 sponsors as their nickname. This was the first of the kind we encountered so far and definitely glad of the support shown by them. Obviously they came to enjoy the competition, which is actually one of the ultimate objective the tournament organizer is trying to achieve. Secondly on a personal note, i had the opportunity to witness Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin game play live. During Team Mage Pro quater-final match against Team iSOS, i had yet to complete the media report for FTZ ASiA.net, Abu Siti Lane. But fellow crew urged me to watch the replay to experience Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin's Admiral game play. Of course, the match was interesting because Team SP2 they are a pretty decent team as well. Finally, Team SP2 bettered Team Mage Pro to qualify to the Final, but not after a tough fight. Regrettably i couldn't get any information about Team SP2. Immediately after the Final against Team Ig-Ice, they dashed off even though the organizer asked them to stay back. This was first time we encountered such thing.

Team Mage Pro - Sentinel
Ban: Doom Bringer, Shadow Fiend, Windrunner, Morphling
Pick: Demon Witch, Storm Spirit, Earthshaker, Spectre, Priestess of the Moon
Details: DW = Knight, SS = Shizuma, ES = Mage, Spectre = Andy, POTM = Ang3|

Team SP2 - Scourge
Ban: Broodmother, Necro'lic, Gorgon, Alchemist
Pick: Vengeful Spirit, Drow Ranger, Oblivion, Enigma, Necrolyte

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Penang (FTZ ASiA.net II) State Qualifier was between Team iG-Ice and Team SP2. Team iG-Ice, the Penang DotA powerhouse is now back to their root featuring former iNc`xLo members, Lim "Bboy" Ewe Wei and Ooi "Wenz" Woo Boon. Both of them who were the core member of Team Ice before joining iNc'xLo. According to Team Captain - Ooi "Wenz" Woo Boon, Team Ice is currently sponsored by a manpower agency by the name iG. And currently they are still desperately looking for more sponsors. Team iG-Ice members are all residing in Penang Island. They claimed victory after defeating Team SP2, automatically qualified to the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

1. For this MSI Dota Tournament 2010, both of you are using iG-Ice tag, is the rumour about your departure from iNc'xLo is true?
Yes, it's true. Both of us has already left iNc'xLo due to sponsorship issues. Currently we are back to our original Team Ice with iG as the sponsor. Therefore now we are iG-Ice. And we are still looking for more sponsors for our team.

2. Could you explain the current iG-Ice roster?
Currently we have only 4 players. They are me myself, Bboy, xiannn and xiaoxun. We are still looking for another candidate to fill in the empty slot. As for Little, he is still fresh and we are still trying out things with him.

3. Could you give us a brief description about the roles of each member in iG-Ice?
Bboy = Drafter/Ganker/Support
xiannn = 1st Carry
WeNz = 2nd Carry
xiaoxun = 3rd Carry

4. Is MSI Dota Tournament 2010 the first competition for Team iG-Ice?
MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is the second competition for us. The first one was SMM Qualifier 2010 - Penang (Champion). Next, we will be going to Kuala Lumpur for AKICOM Open DotA Tournament 2010.

5. Which Team is Malaysia do you think is the strongest at the moment?
MuFc.

6. What do you think about the gaming sponsorship in Malaysia?
Sponsorship in Malaysia is not supportive enough compared to other countries, for example China. In China, Professional Gamers have the opportunity to 'play games' as their career.

7. Could you explain your training routine?
We train almost everyday with both local and oversea teams. For example, MuFc, Nirvana, AEON.sg and Starboba. For replays, normally we study China DotA Teams replays.

PS: Interview done with the whole team of iG-Ice. WeNz representing the team answering the questionnaire.

MSI Dota Tournament - Penang (FTZ ASiA.net - Round III) Media Report

user posted image
No. 206,208 Pusat Perniagan Raja Uda, Jalan Raja Uda 12300 Butterworth, Penang.

Date: 5th September 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: FTZ ASiA.net, Jalan Raja Uda.
Address: No. 206,208 Pusat Perniagan Raja Uda, Jalan Raja Uda 12300 Butterworth, Penang.
Participating Teams: FTZ, wT-origins, EXcel, Reborn, Mage Pro, Scyther, Katu, SP2.

The last day of Penang State Qualifier finally came by. After setting up the location for the competition, we waited for Participating Teams to arrive for the tournament. For avid followers of MSI Dota Tournament 2010, you definitely realize that the registration for this particular location was kinda poor. Therefore quite a number of Teams who participated in FTZ ASiA.net, Abu Siti Lane requested to join this qualifier round. Since there was quite a number of empty slot to be filled, so the organizers accepted their request. But of course, first come first serve. The repeating Teams who participated this qualifier round were FTZ, wT-origins, EXcel and Scyther.

As for Mage Pro and SP2, they requested to participate in this round of qualifier after their match in FTZ ASiA.net, Sungai Ara. But during that time, all 8 slots were already taken. At around 3:15 PM, 2 Teams haven't show up for registration. After some follow-up work, the 2 Teams notified us that they couldn't make it to the tournament. Therefore we immediately called Mage Pro and SP2 whether they are interested to participate since there were 2 open slots. As expected, they agreed to participate and quickly rush to the tournament venue. Here we would like to apologize to Team Scyther and Katu for the delay caused.

Since Team Mage Pro and Team SP2 will be late for the tournament, we draw the bracket for them and coincidently both teams were located in the same half where they will meet each other in the Semi-Finals barring any upset. Without any suspense, Team Mage Pro and Team SP2 indeed met in the Semi-Final and once again another close fight between them. Eventually Team Mage Pro managed to revenge their previous lost beating SP2.

If you have been following this 'Official MSI Dota Tournament 2010 Media Report,' you'll realize this is the longest delay for completing a report since it started. The main reason is that we lost all the replays due to technical fault. Usually at the mid part of my report, i'll use the replays to write. Therefore, i could only provide a little insight about some of the teams. First let us get to know more about Team SP2, which i personally felt that they are a very unique team. Before that i would like to clarify the fact that Team SP2, runner-ups for FTA ASiA.net - Round II State Qualifier missed the 'Prize Giving Ceremony' due to lack of time. According to Lim 'SP-2.Lov3' Geng Li, they had to rush to the cinema for movie because the had already booked the ticket earlier and didn't expect the tournament would take such a long time to finish. He sincerely apologies for it.

Team SP2 or SP-2 to be precise, hail from Sungai Petani, Kedah. SP-2 is actually a Cyber Cafe in Sungai Petani where the team members always frequent. These 5 friends playing for the first time together picked SP-2 as their team name because SP-2 Cyber Cafe did sponsor for their trip expenses to this competition. Besides, Lim 'SP-2.Lov3' Geng Li is actually working in the Cyber Cafe. All along Team SP-2 only participated in competitions held in Kedah and Penang. They do not participate tournaments in Kuala Lumpur, where most of the DotA competitions are held because they do not have sponsors. Therefore it is very difficult to cover the travel expenses. Although it seems like Team SP-2 is just an amature DotA Team, but personally i felt that their achievements indicate differently. Team SP-2 is actually SMM Kedah 2009 runner-ups and qualified to the SMM Grand Final. But they didn't attend the Grand Final due to personal reasons. When asked to comment on their lose to Team Mage Pro after the second encounter, they are very satisfied with their performance and it was a worthy lost. If only their main player, SP-2.Chuan had time to participate in this competition, they may perform better as SP-2.Chuan is the best player. According to Heng 'SP-2.Bing' Wei Sheng, their main weakness is that they never employ strategies when it comes to competition. They only play on according to situation. This is because there's no Team Captain for the team and every decision is made through discussion among team members.

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Penang (FTZ ASiA.net III) State Qualifier was between Team FTZ and Team Mage Pro. As for Team Mage Pro i guess there's no need for any further introduction. This time, Soo "Mage" Wei Ying couldn't make it to the tournament therefore replaced by Mike "WuQing" Khoo. As for Team FTZ, this time the full team member participated. 2 of their team member is actually part of Team FTZ.Asia that beat MYM during the previous SMM Grand Final. They are Ooi "FTZ-D3" Kean Choon and Teoh "FTZ-Mil|er" Boon Chuan. With their full strength, it seems that Team FTZ is just a class above. They gank-play was really awesome. They wrapped up the game against Team Mage Pro in the Final in around 20 minutes and qualified to the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 in Kuala Lumpur.

1. Could you explain the current Team FTZ roster?
This current 5 team member will be our permanent roster.

2. Right after Team FTZ.ASiA win over MYM in SMM Grand Final 2009, it seems like the Team went inactive. What happened?
Mainly it's due to the departure of Lim "MikeBz" Tze Khai from the team. Secondly is that due to work commitment. Except for Low "FTZ-Baobao" Chong Yeow who is still studying now, the rest of us are working.

3. Could you give us a brief description about the roles of each member in Team FTZ?
Zenki - Drafter/Support
Baobao - Main Carry/Farmer
D3 - Carry/Farmer
Mil|er - Carry/Farmer
smallpig - Ganker

4. Which Team is Malaysia do you think is the strongest at the moment?

MSI Dota Tournament - Selangor (E-Arena) Media Report

Date: 23th September 2010

Venue: E-Arena, Bandar Puchong Jaya.
Address: No. 39/01 & 41/01, Jalan Kenari 19A, Bandar Puchong Jaya, 47100 Selangor.
Participating Teams: bD, Darwin Pro, Boroi Clan, Alyxia, Instinct, RDAS, Rising, e2, E-Arena, DMK, ES, Rubbish, Roxr, AEON.MuFc, [Fat], PlayForFun.

Finally we have come to the final State Qualifier, the Selangor State Qualifier before the Grand Final in Times Square, Kuala Lumpur. The first leg of Selangor State Qualifier took place in E-Arena Cyber Cafe, Bandar Puchong Jaya with one of the top team in Malaysia participating, AEON.MuFc. Unlike some celebrity stars, AEON.MuFc was one of the earliest team arrived in E-Arena. However, Team Rubbish and Team DMK didn't turn up for the tournament although there has been a lot of Teams seeking for slot both through online and offline registration, which was very disappointing. After we had our lunch, it was work time. As usual, we setup the demo station and our marshal, Mr. Oma checked the system complete with the correct patch, map and warkey. Everything was smooth sailing from the start until the end.

Barring any upset, Team AEON.MuFc marched to the final of MSI Dota Tournament - Selangor (E-Arean Cyber Cafe) State Qualifier against Team Darwin Pro. According to Dharwin "darwin" Daimootorn, his team was formed at Wednesday night, 22/09/2010 after confirming their slot with Mr. Oma. Obviously there was not enough time for training. Nevertheless, as they expected Team Darwin Pro qualified to Final. 2 core members or friends who always play together competitively, Dharwin "darwin" Daimootorn and Ong "DaiDai" Yok Soon formed Team Darwin Pro for this tournament. Team Darwin Pro or sometimes known as Team Dai Dai Pro actually qualified to SMM Grand Final 2009 through the KL State Qualifier. After their game against AEON.MuFc, Dharwin "darwin" Daimootorn said, "Team Aeon.MuFc basically 'tapao' us. At the first minute mark, Sim "AEON.ling[MuFc]" Wai Cheong claimed 'first blood' once his Tinker reached Level 2. And before reaching the 2 minute mark, Lim "AEON.WtR[MuFc]" Litt Binn got the second kill. It was pretty clear that AEON.MuFc was a class above when only at the 12 minute mark Team Darwin Pro managed to score a kill. But at the time, the scoreboard was already 22-1 in favor of AEON.MuFc. AEON.MuFc wrapped up the game in 28 minutes with Nick "AEON.Nick[MuFc]" Lim's Obsidian Destroyer had 5 Mystic Staff and a Power Thread. From AEON.MuFc performance, we see that they did not underestimate Team Darwin Pro and engage a very aggressive game play from the start.

Team Darwin Pro - Sentinel
Ban: Necro'lic, Storm Spirit, Shadow Fiend, Enigma,
Pick: Windrunner, Drow Ranger, Demon Witch, Tidehunter, Lord of Olympia

Team AEON.MuFc - Scourge
Ban: Doom Bringer, Oblivion, Vengeful Spirit, Broodmother
Pick: Crystal Maiden, Witch Doctor, Priestess of the Moon, Obsidian Destroyer

Up Close and Personal - AEON.WtR[MuFc] and CO

user posted image

Immediately after the Final Match, i had an interview session with the AEON.MuFc Team Captain, Chan "AEON.WtR[MuFc]" Litt Binn. compared to all previous interview i have done, AEON.WtR[MuFc] is the only one feeling at ease during interview session. The ex-National Junior Chess Champion, who represented Malaysia to Asia Games provided a lot of information during the interview. Throughout the interview session, we get to know that currently he's on his Final Year of a Degree Program in Taylor's College.

1. How do you think of this MSI Dota Tournament 2010?
Although there's definitely room of improvement, i feel that this MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is very well organized with dedicated crew members. There's no delay during this tournament, which i really like.

2. Many Teams regard AEON.MuFc is the strongest DotA Team in Malaysia. Do you realize that and what is your feeling?
Yes, i realize that and i'm thankful for the honour. During the first half of the year, indeed we are very successful. But now it's always between AEON.MuFc and Nirvana.My. Victory can go either way especially when any one of the Team is not on form or played badly. The 3rd team that could competitively give AEON.MuFc and Nirvana. My a threat is iG-Ice. It is only a matter of time.

3. Could you comment on your recent lost to Nirvana. My at the recently concluded Akicom Dota Tournament?
AEON.MuFc likes to explore mutliple different types of tactics, especially when playing against local team. In the Akicom Dota Tournament, all of us agreed to use a 'push' strategy and will still guarantee a little chance of winning even if the game dragged on. That is where Necrolyte and Alchemist comes in. Even though we lost, we did not regret using the strategy because up to date, we are still even with Nirvana. My in our encounters. One of the reason that there's no clear domination of a DotA Team in Malaysia is because there's too much of mutual understanding between each other. Teammates or rivals eventually become friends because of frequent team transfer. I believe now stability is the key to dominate Malaysia DotA Scene.

4. MuFc added AEON as their sponsor, could you explain a little about AEON sponsor?
Eryc has always been a friend to me. Beginning of the year, Eryc wants to recruit me to join Team Aeon.Sg but it didn't work out. Part of the reason is geographical difference. Anyway, long story short, AEON.MuFc fits me better and we are happy about it.

5. How do you think of the current Competitive DotA Scene in Malaysia?
DotA is still not a mainstream game, it runs on Blizzard engine. Therefore sponsors are not willing to venture/invest in DotA. And also DotA players attitude is not at best to promote DotA. This is because top teams in Malaysia tend to be prohibited from participating a lot of local DotA Competitions due to gain better response. But now i agree that the scene is gradually changing as we witness Akicom Dota Tournament and this MSI Dota Tournament 2010 are open to all teams. And the response is not affected.

6. What do you think of Online Competitions where it is known that players fake their ID to play for another team?
This issue couldn't be avoided as there's still no exact solution to solve it. Moreover, there's always a possibility where emergence crop out and player are unable to play at that time.

7. We notice that AEON.MuFc team members changed their nicknames. Is it official and why?
Yes, indeed we changed our nickname and it's official. Reason is simple. With AEON joined as our sponsor, we had no choice but to shorten our nickname.

AEON.ling[MuFc] = xiaoling
AEON.RwT[MuFc] = DeejaySharky
AEON.Nick[MuFc] = Silvercross
AEON.Vaxe[MuFc] = RedSun
AEON.WtR[MuFc] = Winter

8. Could you tell us the first ever DotA Hero you used and besides DotA, do you play any other game?
AEON.ling[MuFc] - Lord of Olympia, only plays DotA
AEON.RwT[MuFc] - Sniper, only plays DotA
AEON.Nick[MuFc] - Lord of Olympia, only plays DotA
AEON.Vaxe[MuFc] - Lord of Olympia, only plays DotA
AEON.WtR[MuFc] - Techies, plays Element TD

QUOTE
AEON.WtR[MuFc] Shoutout: "Thank you Jerry for supporting us this far. We are very thankful for what you have done. Without you our team will never be formed."
AEON.RwT[MuFc] Shoutout: "Silvercross is the most 'hamsap' guy in AEON.MuFc."
AEON.Nick[MuFc] Shoutout: "RedSun is Gay."
AEON.Vaxe[MuFc] Shoutout: "I'm a good boy."
AEON.ling[MuFc] Shoutout: "Sharky's Enigma very pro."

MSI Dota Tournament - Selangor (INC Café) Media Report

user posted image
No. 47 & 49, Jalan Batu Nilam 4, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, 41200 Klang Selangor.

Date: 24th September 2010
Time: 1500
Venue: INC Café, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang.
Address: No. 47 & 49, Jalan Batu Nilam 4, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, 41200 Klang Selangor.
Participating Teams: XGO, Sire, Busuk, GIGA.SmD, Unbreak@blez, XGL, Top Form, LivelyDistrict.

Everything has a start and has the end. The end is near. On the 24th September, we realized that the organizing team will eventually part ways 1 week later as we have reached the last State Qualifier leg for the MSI Dota Tournament 2010. Although the crews work very hard but everything was worth it because we gain a lot of friends in the process. Fond memories were filing the organizing team as we moved out to the final State Qualifier venue, Klang. During the journey, our conversation was just DotA, no others. As for this qualifier round, we see Team XGL comeback for the third trial to qualify for the Grand Final. In Malacca State Qualifier Round 1, they met Nirvana. My and lost. In Round 2, they lost to Team iRelax. Such fighting spirit is really commendable. Other than that, there was 1 team that didn't turn out for the tournament. Coincidentally there were 2 teams looking for a slot to play. Therefore the organizer agreed the 2 teams to fight each other for the slot. Whoever wins will qualify for the empty slot. Although it caused a slight delay, but it was better to give people chances than closing the slot.

The Final of MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Selangor (INC Café) State Qualifier was between Team XGL and Team GIGA.SmD. According to Team Captain Ong Giga.SmD'Magic Boon Choon, Team GIGA.SmD recently just grab a sponsor from Gigabite Cyber Cafe in Cheras, opposite Leisure Mall. 4 of the Team Member are still studying while only one is working. The team was formed not more than 3 months and currently the 5 team members who participate in MSI Dota Tournament 2010 is the permanent roster. The roster has a slight change where "bobolut" is replaced by Benny "Giga.SmD'Badboyz" Teoh due to work commitment. In the recently concluded Akicom Dota Tournament, Team SmD's destroyed on of their opponent 'fountain' and it is largely being discuss in forums. Ong Giga.SmD'Magic Boon Choon said, "We are not trying to make anyone shy. After breaking the fountain, we immediately move away without killing any heroes. We did not regret what we did as breaking the fountain is what Team Giga.SmD is trying to achieve." On the other hand, Team XGL was formed just because of this MSI Dota Tournament. According to Teo "XGL.Loomi" Wei Loong, the team was formed with 'underdogs' as members. 3 of the team members were actually ex-iRelax member before. Their already qualified to the SMM Grand Final through SMM Seremban Qualifier 2010. Team XGL trains 3-4 times a week and after any lost, they will study the replay together. Currently they go all out to participate any tournament because by the end of the year, the team may disband as Teo "XGL.Loomi" Wei Loong will stop Competitive Dota to concentrate in his studies. Team XGL managed to beat Team GIGA.SmD in the Final with a 'fast push' strategy and qualified to the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Team XGL - Sentinel
Ban: Doom Bringer, Drow Ranger, Shadow Shaman, Admiral,
Pick: Vengeful Spirit, Crystal Maiden, Priestess of the Moon, Undying, Death Prophet

Team Giga.SmD - Scourge
Ban: Earthshaker, Necro'lic, Storm Spirit, Broodmother
Pick: Oblivion, Necrolyte, Obsidian Destroyer, Tidehunter, Templar Assasin

MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Grand Final Team List Released

Finally the MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Grand Final Team List is released. There has been a lot of problem in confirming Team's slot but eventually we still managed to pull through. Due to the instability of Teams Roster and personal life commitment, quite a number of Qualified Teams couldn't make it to the Grand Final, which is very disappointing. But most importantly, MSI did not bend any of their rules in favor to any teams. For each Qualified Teams, they are allowed to change any player with a VALID REASON with any NON-QUALIFIED player. As for Team INC, they are automatically qualified as the reigning champion. Team Champions from previous MSI Dota Tournament (small scale tournament, February - March) took place in INC Café, FTZ.net, Friendster i-Café and Universal Cybercafé are also auto qualified. However, these team players are allowed to "re-participate" in any of the State Qualifier but their auto-qualification will be revoked. Therefore we see Chai “MuShI” Yee Fung, who actually qualified through Team Anything played alongside with Nirvana. My in Malacca State Qualifier. Similar to him is Team Darwin Pro who actually auto-qualified through Team Ubat Batuk, played in the Selangor State Qualifier. As for Excuse Gaming, GnR and GIGA.SmD, they qualified through the recently concluded Facebook Favorite Team Vote. GIGA.SmD took Mage Pro slot as they are unable to make it to the Grand Final because of work commitment. GnR took the empty slot left by xTu/Kingsurf-JJ. Finally, the organizing crew would like to wish all of the participating teams HAPPY GAMING, which is the main objective of MSI Dota Tournament 2010.

  1. INC.Newcomer
  2. AEON.MuFc
  3. XGL
  4. LeaP GaM|ng
  5. Dg
  6. GnR
  7. Nirvana.My
  8. iRelax
  9. ReD
  10. iG-Ice
  11. INC
  12. Anything
  13. RoongJiet
  14. Team Ladies
  15. Excuse Gaming
  16. GIGA.SmD

MSI Dota Tournament 2010 - Grand Final Draw Bracket

There are 4 seeded teams for this MSI Dota Tournament 2010. They are Nirvana. My, AEON.MuFc, iG-Ice and INC. The 4 teams "drawed" for 4 selected slots separating them to different section. Barring any upset, they will meet each other in the Semi-Finals. There's another case of absentees where Team Dg didn't make it to the tournament. Reason is yet to be known.
