Most of the experts in audiophiles said that maximum of burn-in time is 5 hours only. Never let your driver burn-in more than 5 hours else it will be overstressed

The price is almost the same with hippo boom i think.if u like bass, better try Sony xb40ex 1st... much more 'power' than hippo boom... i tried n tested both ady... |

My dell laptop seems like a bad source to listen to music.. my shure tends to sound nicer with my sony mp3 player. Is there any way to improve it? get a DAC? can recommend me some which is below RM300.. thx

QUOTE(ArianneG @ Nov 21 2010, 09:46 PM) Yes, I'm not surprised. I'm on a Dell laptop myself, and the onboard soundcard is CRAP and rife with noise-- bass just loses definition and impact, microdetails gone, highs not as crisp-- ahem. Anyway I once tried listening to Dream Theatre after using the DAC long term (didn't have the DAC with me at the time) and straightaway cannot tahan, music sounds rubbished all of a sudden. Yeah, I'm using Dell Insipiron 1420 too.. the sound comes out from SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC is really unbearable. At first i thought it was my newly-bought headphones problem, till i tried it with my mp3 player, it sounded better alot. Hmm, can i know why did u skip the E7? Is it really that bad compared to the Go-vibe/ordnance?A DAC is meant to replace your sound card and improves sound from laptops and computers in general, since it clears up noise and allows you to hear the details that are covered. With your budget I'd skip the E7 and go for either Go-Vibe or Ordnance. Ordnance and Go-Vibe DAC both sound highly similar, although I am not very familiar with the Go-Vibe's sound. The Ordnance is nice and responsive on fast songs but tends to sound a little thin in the mids and bass frequencies. Still it's fairly neutral to my ears. Not bad for RM240 budget DAC. |

QUOTE(ArianneG @ Nov 22 2010, 02:06 AM) Oh the E7 works well enough, but I preferred a dedicated DAC and to be honest when I was in the market for a DAC the E7 wasn't released yet; and once I heard the Ordnance DAC I was sold. Thanks for the lengthy reply My additional reasoning is that I'd rather have one device that does what it's supposed to well and have less complications to it. Less stuff in one device means less noise. And I dislike EQ controls; my reasoning is that the musician wants you to hear the music as he recorded and mixed it, not monkey around with EQ settings e.g. the bass boost and change how his music sounds, so E7 has a strike against it already for me in that respect-- it's not really neutral anymore. Also I have the E5-- and didn't like the sound-- more or less no difference to me except with Bass Boost, and then bass went over... I got better SQ from upgrading player, source files and IEMs. So I didn't really bother to try E7 either. If you want my honest advice-- best way is to audition all these yourself. Try and come down to KL for a day trip or 2 day trip, drop by Subang and test it. All of us here talk and talk also no use-- the truth as it stands to be heard is in your ears. |

QUOTE(windboy @ Nov 23 2010, 07:21 PM) it depends on what you will be using for your music listening Yeah, from laptop. Since Shure headphones are not really portable, kinda bulky. I only use IEM with my portable player. I've tried my friend's Hippo Box without using any DAC, it sounded quite good. And then i tried his Ordnance DAC, without using the hippo box, sounds quite similar. That's why im confused now from PC mostly? or from portable devices such as ipod mostly? Azto : That unit has been used more than 1 year, and he said that hes not sure how long the previous user had been using |

Im kinda in a rush to get a decent amp/dac to improve the sq.. because the soundcard of my laptop is really suck and the sound comes out from it is really unbearable, so want to get either a affordable dac or amp first liddat better save up for a decent dac/amp i.e .25 ordnance maybe? or govibe petite as for either dac alone or amp alone..dac..cleans up d irritating sound i guess..thats wut i heard... |

QUOTE(boomber @ Nov 23 2010, 09:11 PM) If you really want to improve your SQ, I think the first step will be getting good source of music. Beginners tend to own lots of MP3 collection but try to rip your music collection into loseless format. Im listening to .flac files and they still sound bad because of my sc. Yeah, couldn't agree more. Thanks for the feedback bro After that only you consider to get a decent soundcard for your dekstop, in this case USB soundcard with decent DAC chip. I think this is crucial if you really into good quality music, no point you get an amp and amplify your noise in your MP3 + noise produced by your notebook soundcard. Agree? Getting an amp is something to do after your source in proper quality. |
