Yea, i agree the "simply cannot stand a local brand name" as one of the reason. lol.

QUOTE(lowpro @ Aug 10 2010, 09:56 AM)
this car is not meant to be compared to the myvi as the myvi is catered to those simply looking for the biggest car for least amount of money. buyers who opt for this are most probably looking at things like 1) styling 2) simply cannot stand a local brand name (regardless if it came from daihatsu) 3) not too concerned about the shorter spec sheet when comparing with the myvi 4) prefer a non-local brand 5) may have just a bit more money to splash on a car 6) are really looking for a smaller car but can't stand the viva's boxy shape... i could go on and on but i guess it gives you the idea.

best competitors for the new alto are the new i10 1.25, the i10 1.1 and the picanto 1.1.

personally, i like the looks of the alto and the picanto (different but not outlandish) but for performance, the 1.25 takes the cake. Just that the mature looks of the i10 is perhaps... too serious for me. would love the combination of the picanto body, the 1.25 engine and the alto's dashboard! biggrin.gif

3) long term/political view. We don't want to support the local industry if we can help it. With all the subsidies from taxpayers and protection they get, they could have done us a favour when we were younger by pricing the then Wiras, Kelisas and Kancils a lot lower (like in Aussie and UK), but chose to potong our leher. Furthermore, supporting foreign cars will given an indication to foreign manufacturers that we are ready to move on from local cars and encourage them to move in more aggressively (like VW atm). So, middle finger to locals.

so by buying non-local cars u think the money doesnt go back to our gov? they r priced higher bcos tax being imposed by our gov. anyway they will still make money, support or not.

car makers dont really care about small market like msia. its our own businessmen that will bring it in hoping to make some profits. anyway thats how things r in msia. if not happy can move to other country where market is open. buck for a buck.

i'm currently driving my sister alto.. she's a doctor so no time driving it ler.. hehe
the alto sure cute in everywhere summore when its in pink color, even the dashboard is cute with rpm meter like boost meter (which an additional for auto, manual dont hv it)
advantages drool.gif
- very silent engine (eventho its 3 cylinder), even my mom's vios quite noisy compare to alto
- attractive design, cute i can say
- attractive price (lowest rm44k manual)
- hv low coefficient of drag, so at high speed i can feel it quite stable compare myvi/viva etc
- the door dosent have cheap sound like viva.. huhu (no offence to viva owners notworthy.gif )
- hv good FC, full tank like rm60+ (ron97) can get 500km+ town driving mostly
- rm50k+ got bodykit for alto, mine is rm48k+
- 14' alloy sport rims
- mp3 player with auxiliary port (can use with mp3 player, ipod etc..)
- at night, light interior all in RED color wub.gif ..
- good SC, really serve their customer really2 good

disadvantages sweat.gif
- small rear bonnet
- very low on pick-up, pick-up is definitely have to increase (at lowyat car park, when gonna go uphill with 4 men with many2 computer parts eg 2 set speakers, 2 lcd etc, at gear L really slow but still moving.. huhu)
- the gbx really fast at changing gear (maybe due want to save fuel), so for better pick-up for sure u need to downshift urself..
- manual adjustment side mirror even for high spec model
- the back-mirror dosent hv double-view (which if u feel so bright from rear car light, u can switch to another view that lower the brightness)
- power window only for at front, even at driver side only can control driver side only.. huhu (at australia suzuki website, there is optional acc for adding rear power window, if here got sure install it later on)

that's all my comment for 1 month driving it almost everyday (my wira gbx kong so lucky me can use my sister's car), overall its really a good car.. with good FC, cuteness factor (as main point), n unique design can attract a lot people especially GIRLS wink.gif .. hehe

bad pick-up but good handling.Much more stable compare to cars in the same class like viva and myvi.Stable and good handling due to its heavy body.

that's why their logo is a tiger ( suppose to be a cat but tiger also consider as one of the cat family )

fuel consumption is excellent, between 13-15 km/litre depending on type of use.

I got mine before CNY, completely satisfied with the driving experience.

Got the green. No bodykit yet. Just did tinting today.

Wanted to get manual, but it lacked alot of other features compared to auto, especially the dash board RPM meter(coolest ever).
