You all know how there's a saying "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it".

Well, I should add another line here.. "If you are worried about the maintenance, don't bother buying it".

Save yourself the trouble. Go buy Proton. You don't need to worry about maintenance.. just replacement.. hahahhaa.. tongue.gif

lol, i tot this line applies to ferrari or bentley, i dunno it also applies to ppl's car ( VW) wor.....

well, its very normal to compare maintenance price among car choices, dont you agree? Unless money grows on trees.

you seriously think someone driving 200k car can simply afford to change the gearbox for 1xk or 2xk? i doubt that tongue.gif

Added on August 9, 2010, 11:21 pmhey, not sure if you guys heard, last week 988 & My fm were talking about ppl gone bankrupt due to car loan, instead of the usual culprit( credit card).

wink.gif are they talking proton or bmw i wonder.....

That line applies to anything that you purchase. It could a thousand ringgit shoe or a ten thousand ringgit Prada bag. If you can afford it, you won't ask for the price. You just pick it up, bring it to the cashier and pay for it. If the money that you earned is legal, you'd whip out a fancy platinum card and pay for it. If the money is illegal, you'd whip out a money holder with a bundle of cash to pay for it. Hhahahahhahaha....

Even proton gearbox cost over 10K brand new. Hence there's plenty of recon proton gearboxes out there that you can find to replace. Therefore they don't need to worry about getting new gearboxes. Most people don't have problems with gearboxes, esp when they are maintained properly. A lot of auto drivers change the oil but not the AT gearbox filter.

Like I said, if you are going to buy a 200K car and worry about the gearbox breaking down, then don't bother getting the car. Go buy a Proton. Thousands of recon gearboxes waiting for you.

I would strongly suggest u buy NEW car instead of 2nd hand MK5. The benefit of 5 years warranty is really worth it. In additional to that, unlimited mileage...you can have greater peace of mind on your ride.
Let's say if your car's parts got problem or spoil during year 3 or 4*touch wood*, the warranty cover everything.  rclxms.gif

Once you get ur baby Golf 1.4, make sure u organize TT session... tongue.gif i think forumer phas3r strongly agree ! biggrin.gif

It's factory warranty and does not cover consumables and items that wear out from use. Things like the clutch and the belts are not covered under this warranty.

Have to check whether the figures are HP at crank or at wheels wink.gif

Not getting it yet, probably wait after a year then plan for the remap. Who knows, next year there might be better custom maps available out there haha.

The 160HP rating by VW are HP on engine. That is because they can dyno the engine directly. Once the engine is fitted into the car and the wheels put on, you cannot dyno the engine anymore unless you have somebody take it out and dyno directly at the crank.

All the dyno centers will give you HP on wheels and then after that convert back to HP on engine based on a set of calculations.

So if they say that they power is going from 160hp to 200hp, that's on engine since 160hp is not the HP on wheels.

Thanks for the info! Also i read properly that the 160hp is rated with Ron98 fuel which we don't get here as well. Does it make that much of a difference?

Hehehe white scooby

1 RON is not going to make too much of a difference. Usually the difference is around 1% per RON level but all that depends on how the ECU is tuned. However if you pump in RON 95, you might feel the difference as the stock ECU might detune more just to ensure the safety of the engine.
