Hey guys, I'm interested in getting a Golf but I'm a little worried after reading all the negative remarks regarding its after sales service. Is it that bad? Or just a few isolated cases? I'm also undecided over the 1.4 and the 2.0. I like the 1.4 for its pricing and the availability of cruise control...... but the 2.0 has leather seats and power seats which I like. Furthermore, it has a little bit more power, of course. Hmmm... decisions. Wife keeps on saying, "Pay so much, go get a benz instead lah!"

yup your wife is correct, for that GTI price better go get a merc or bmw. But if you are the non common one that want to join the Nazi's legacy, try VW.

Ok how to choose between GTI and TSI? simple. if you are someone who loves to go fast and smoke other drivers get the GTI.
If you are someone that loves to take it simple and occasionally smoke people. Get the TSI/
*
But I like the leather seats in the GTi more than the fabric ones on the TSI. Is there anyway to replace those on the TSI with leather ones? Aiyah.. VW apa Nazi? Those are in the past lah.... in that case, Japanese stuff also cannot buy lah. sweat.gif

I've tested both the TSI and GTi and will probably get the GTi either this year ... or March for the 2011 cars. But what I read here.... ppl testing cars to 160-180kph. I was wondering if u guys can actually handle the speed or not. Driving at such speed on public road is not only endangering your own life, but also others on the road. You might say, "It will never happen to me", or "There's no one else on the road." But who can actually predict what will happen. When I test, I just try to keep it below 110. Maybe I'll just floor it to see how fast it makes the century mark. That's about it.
Regarding the TSI.... I still feel that the GTi delivers power more smoothly, and it has leather seats. But the TSI has cruise control, which I like.

wow, i'm surprised there's someone buying the gti driving less than 110  shocking.gif up to you bro

Haha.... I'm kiasu n kiasi (takut mati) person mah... So, will drive to the limit of my reflexes. Hand-eye coordination is not like what it used to be. GTi can give me the power when I need it mah. There's this little lag when I press on the accelerator of the TSI. The package is good.. just don't like the fabric seats n the lack of power seat for the driver. The gear shift and steering wheel of the GTi is more sexy too. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(eddie_al @ Oct 3 2010, 09:54 AM)
hey...dont flay me buddy...that info wasn't mine.

they said so here...> Do you really need the GTi

btw, how is the fd2r not livable? i do know actual people who has it & does use it as everyday car. my point is, will it make common sense if other common people were have one and do the same? unless everyone else also has extra $$$ and doesn't mind the extra maintenance that comes with it. and of course, the power difference between fd2 & fd2r is obvious...so it is still acceptable if someone just wants it just for the pure extra power & speed.

but tsi itself on the other hand is already fast enough, feels good enough, & as yan pointed out, fuel saving somemore...& it's more sensible for everyday drive. (since futobuta said he isn't going to speed anyway)

so if 50k is justifiable for superficial differences, well, i dunno..i just state my opinion. the 50k are superficial, leather/electric seats, steering, etc. he doesn't have to agree.

EDIT : well, if futobuta is not a common person like my friend who drives the fd2r then i got nothing to say la, smile.gif

Well, I'm a normal fella lah. I'm getting a Golf as a weekend/nighttime drive. So, FC is not really an issue. I don't drive much either. My current go-to-work ride only clocked 28000km after 3 yrs of use. So, I guess the Golf will clock less. I just want a little fun ride. I like leather seats because all my current rides have leather seats and my wife likes it too. The only thing that the TSI is attractive to me (other than the 50k cheaper tag), is the availability of cruise control. Actually, 50k is not much if u divide it over the years... 2-3k a month installment is no problem lah. Go less 'berjoli' then can settle liao lor whistling.gif.

QUOTE(eddie_al @ Oct 3 2010, 04:15 PM)
sure pal...not trying to "jaga tepi kain", so hope you dont find offence. just that the reasons you gave are indeed superficial (leather seats can be changed, leather wrapped steerings too). unless you are those those who drives a) 120 is cruising speed b) 120~140 is overtaking c) 160 is absolute best; then getting the GTi is definately the way to go. infact thats what my buddy who got the type R said, he simply wants to drive fast wherever he could.

in that sense, getting the premium model justifies its price tag because they are built for it. (speed, safety & all). safety factor and designs are something no aftermarket can ever replace, hence, the premium price paid for the fastest and absolute highest spec model.

but since you already said you are willing to go for it for the reasons stated, well it's yours to begin with, so enjoy your ride, smile.gif

again, no offence.
*
Aiyah... so easily get offended one meh? doh.gif Not a young kid lah. But seriously, leather seats and those other things u deem superficial does actually add comfort n pleasure to the driving experience. thumbup.gif Having a nice ride doesn't always have to be about speed alone. That's why many prefer this over the Civic Type-R. Anyway, it is all just personal preference. And I 'prefer' them to put leather seats into the TSI so that I can go for it rather than the GTi. Or maybe cruise control in the GTi so that I don't have to think so much to decide between these two fun machines.
Anyone has changed their sound system yet? The stock system doesn't seem that nice.

Hey guys... just wanna ask about vw's after sales service. A lot of ppl have been feeding me negative remarks regarding it. Problems such as lack of skilled manpower... poor after sales service, etc. How is it really ah? Really that bad ah, vw in malaysia. Really need to confirm this before I make the plunge.

weird that you opted old Z4 instead of these cars, these cars are more practical, if i'm considering a golf, a roadster will never be in my mind

u r right. once my sis got her new honda jazz, went for tint. as results of their poor removal of door panels, they actually broke the locking mechanism in one of the door.  shakehead.gif

now i've got a new accord just few weeks old, really careful in choosing right tint shop. now still untinted  tongue.gif
*
That's the thing. I don't know which shop is familiar with tinting for the golf. And which film? 3M?

I did my Golf tint with 3M ,AFAIK they didn't open the door panel , heat resistant is very good compare with my previous car with ecotint. Just leave out small part near rear-view mirror for smart tag.
*
How did they do it without opening the door panel... even by a little?
