QUOTE(art6969 @ Aug 9 2010, 11:14 AM) know la different, but prepared your cash la for bluray, let say 200 movies x RM70 each = RM 14,000 + RM 1,000++ (bluray player) worth every penny. at least for some people. never have the need to go to the movies anymore. why visit the cinema when the picture and audio quality is better at home? not to mention can stop, pause, crank the volume up and down, change seating position, eat kfc while watching, pause and tend the crying son and... re-watch any movies again. RM70 for each movie is worth every penny considering i need to burn at least RM50 for each visit to the cinema.

QUOTE(minimize @ Aug 9 2010, 01:12 PM) RM50? why so expensive? 3D movie in cinema just RM17 perperson. surely the family will tag along. the husband has to pay for everything la bro. tickets for everyone, popcorn, soft drinks. add those will increase the cost of going to the cinema exponentially and that if the wife doesn't find something that she likes. if should accidentally stumble upon a 'cheap' RM200 'on sale' pair of shoes and home does seem like a more enticing place to be in. hehe QUOTE(minimize @ Aug 9 2010, 01:56 PM) MKV container still have a problem to support HD audio like DTS-HD/TrueHD. Maybe we'll need a new container that better than MKV to support that one. only if you're running a network media tank. them NMT have lots of problem supporting lossless mkv.

QUOTE(lok3i @ Aug 10 2010, 07:58 AM) that's what we call aspect ratio (AR).. different movie, different AR.. 16:9 is the standard for HDTV (without black bar) and yet most of the bluray and mkv (which is also compressed from bluray) are in 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 format which will have the black bar on the top and bottom because the video is wider than 16:9 so a larger screen is better at displaying it because you don't have to zoom.

QUOTE(lok3i @ Aug 10 2010, 08:24 AM) that's normal dude..nothing you can do.. if you don't want black bar, home theater projector is the way to go.. the black bar on the top and bottom is less noticeable well we can zoom it. that will remove the black bar at the expense of cropping the left and right picture. think i'll go with a larger screen rather than projector at the living room.

QUOTE(minimize @ Aug 11 2010, 01:08 AM) How can your fit 13 HDD in there. From image i got below, it space just same like others normal PC. Quiet curious how do your do it. the case have slots for 6 hdd. simple mod and you could fit 8 hdd in there. i don't use the 2X5.25" drive bay and that could fit another 5 hdd. i've posted in the HTPC thread before. it is somewhat an old pic. QUOTE(SiriuslyCold @ Aug 11 2010, 01:26 AM) paskal, any chance you want to start a VOD service? haven't thought of anything like that. it's a personal collection. doubt anyone would be interested in it. but i'm not the only one. have another friend that has as large collection as i am.

QUOTE(kapultek @ Aug 11 2010, 05:44 PM) nice rig..13tb...is it hot not hot. not noisy. no fan noise could be heard 3 feet away from the casing. and of course no noise could be heard when the a movie is playing at 85dB. the htpc with all hdd running is quieter than my aircond running above my head.

QUOTE(azbro @ Aug 11 2010, 07:54 PM) How did you manage to powerup 13hdd with a single power supply for your HTPC? Or did you do up a simple circuit to distribute the power? a truepower PSU rated at around 500W should be able to power all the hdd. i'm using mostly samsung 5400rpm drives and those only require about 10W per drive. i'm running 10 drives with a trupower 450W PSU and the voltage rails are still stable. guys, i believe questions about my htpc should be inside the htpc thread. let's move discussions there shall we

QUOTE(minimize @ Aug 26 2010, 02:13 PM) MKVs with TrueHD/DTS-HD are very limited nowadays because IMHO it's not worth go that route. MKV with TrueHD/DTSHDMA are already 20GB+ an uncompressed bluray files (m2ts or bdmv) with removed bonus tracks, commentary tracks, extra audio leaving only the movie itself (uncompressed) and TruHD/DTSHDMA (uncompressed) is only 25-30GB a movie. a difference of only a few gigs. better to go uncompressed everything.

QUOTE(minimize @ Aug 28 2010, 12:52 AM) TrueHD audio file only is just 4GB. If combine with 8GB 1080p AVC, I think it MKV file is should not more than 15GB. try and look for MKV with lossless track and see for yourself. lots that i find are more than 20GB. lots of high bitrate MKV with an average bitrate of more than 10Mbps with DTS track is already more than 10GB.
