for me and my personal beliefs. the good windows version is

(upgrade from 98)
Windows 98se (best version. beats the hell out of ME and 2000)

(upgrade from 2000)
Windows XP (didnt use it until 2002, shockingly satisfying, i dont even want to change at first lol)

(upgrade from Vista)
Windows 7 (tried vista on a friends pc and readin review.. it sucks.. until 7 comes i installed it right away)

im pretty sure i will hold up for a while if Windows 8 hav surfaced..

I don't dig the hype, i dig the reviews.
