I still hope that SAF can bring in someone to replace Carrick. I still find him unconvincing so far.

But should Carrick suddenly become a sniper rifle in disguise, then no problem liao.

At least the Wembley pitch actually looks better than the time we played the Carling Cup final. It seems its now a mixed of real + artificial grass (link).

yup as posted earlier, the pitch we played on was just resurfaced and has artificial ones in it.none the less i still worry with tackles etc etc, no more sights of munich please nod.gif .

"(although rumour has it Ryan may get a contract extension to 2050)

lol if that happens then what the commentator said when giggs entered during the match yesterday will fit nicely tongue.gif .

Hernandez excites Van der Sar

QUOTE
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has backed new signing Javier Hernandez to take the Premier League by storm this season.

The Mexico striker announced himself to United supporters with a goal, albeit slightly fortuitous, in Sunday's 3-1 Community Shield victory over Chelsea at Wembley.

With the goal gaping following Antonio Valencia's pull back, the 22-year-old scuffed his shot up onto his own head and back into the empty net.

But, while it may not have been the way Hernandez dreamt of getting off the mark for United, Van der Sar believes the young Mexican - nicknamed 'Chicharito', the little pea - has already shown during pre-season he has a bright future at Old Trafford.

Talented

"He has been looking good for the last 10 days since he joined us in the United States," said the Dutchman, who turns 40 in October.

"How he scored does not really matter - the most important thing was for him to get on the scoresheet and for the fans to see a very talented player.

"He is a big prospect. More players are emerging and together with the experienced ones we have to try and bring something back.

"However, we don't just need the strikers to score. It is the midfielders and wingers who need to do their bit as well.

"(Antonio) Valencia scored and crossed for the second one. He is looking well.

"That is important. You need goals from lots of different places."

The Wembley reverse was Chelsea's fourth consecutive loss of their pre-season build-up.

Important

Conversely, United have enjoyed a decent return from their tour matches, beating both Celtic, Philadelphia Union and also the MLS All-Stars.

With so many of Sir Alex Ferguson's players coming off the back of a busy summer, Van der Sar feels the Community Shield victory shows things are moving in the right direction ahead of the opening game of the campaign at home to Newcastle next Monday night.

"It is the last game of pre-season and we only have a week to go before the real thing starts so it is important some players, like Wayne Rooney, get more playing time under their belts. That was important, in addition to winning the trophy," said the Dutchman.

"It is always the case that you want to win against your big rivals.

"Hopefully that is something we can use to get off to a good start in eight days' time to try and win our trophy back."
