Just knew that replacing a fuse on the 3-pin plug will void your power adapter warranty .. My wife's 4 months old MBP couldn't charge, no light coming from the charger end .. so, I took out the fuse and checked, yes, it blew of course .. so, I took a 3A from my daughter's 3-pin plug .. the same exact brand/value/etc .. spark coming out from the square brick and it blew the fuse .. called Apple support and they said that replacing the fuse might void the warranty .. what the ... why in the world they have a replaceable fuse when you can't change it yourself .. and unknowingly void the warranty .. but after the lady at the support line consulted her superior, they're changing it FOC for me, just need to bring it to VRTech or Sapura Synergy .. ughh.. lesson learned ..

which number you call?
change fuse definitely wont void warranty

and it's not cover by warranty either, it's consider as wear and tear part

I called the 1800 number, and since when power adapter is a wear & tear? Anyway, went to vrtech this morning and need to wait for Tuesday for replacement.

Now .. I wonder .. why the lady on the other end confidently said that changing the fuse is considered as DIY and this void the power adapter warranty. I did raised my voice last night because it is unbelievable, the Malaysian 3-pin plug has the fuse as user replaceable. Anyway, I'll say the next time I have a problem, I'll not call them .. but rather just bring my MBP to VRTech.

Do you somehow have setup the open firmware password? More information found here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1352

If yes, it will disable some of the key combinations during bootup.

Ya..agreed.
The waiting game is really headache and I guess is not worthy to just wait for it.

Agreed .. but Intel just announced its mobile i3 and i5 processors update .. so probably there will be only a speed bump .. but .. errm.. the current MBP design has been used for I believe almost two years ..

Cheers for the info! But anyway the Apple Support guy told me to go to that specific address. Lucky I asked here first. He also said better to go to the Northpoint Office as everything goes thru there, he might giving me false info again. Anyway I think I'll go to the Northpoint Office first & if it doesn't go well I'll head up to VR Technology. Thanks again for the help.

Sent my MBP last Monday to VR Tech and was told that it will be ready by Friday .. no call from them, so I called them up today .. and guess what, the girl who picked the phone said that the could only checked my MBP on Friday (I've told them that it needs HD replacement on Monday when I sent the MBP).. and she told me that it will take another week or so for the HD to be sent to Singapore and the replacement to be sent back to VR Tech. Adoi.... but she gave me a solution, get myself a new HD first, they'll replace the HD with mine.. and when the replacement HD arrive, they'll call me up to pickup the HD. So, got myself a 500GB Hitachi 7200rpm and will go down to YKS tomorrow .. 30 mins was the time I was told for them to replace the HD. The girl said they're outnumbered by number of repairs need to be done.. I wonder how bad Apple products now when it will take them more than a week to get fixed (and me w/o the MBP).

Just wondering why Apple just couldn't stock up their vendors with common failed parts? From my experience, owning Apple products for years, it will take a week from part order to part replacement, mainly due to the shipment which usually take at least 2 days to reach the vendors in KL. Oh well.. no point moaning about it here.. just pre-warn you guys that the minimum time for repair is a week.

I'm at VR Tech right now, guess what, saw lot of EPIC service orders (and a box full of MB/MBPs).. so, they're taking repairs from some other resellers too not just direct walk-in customers.

Especially the hard disk, my wife's MBA has it's HD replaced .. they found a dent on one of the edge, so I guess somehow, the MBP slipped off her hand while it was on and causes the HD went bad. I did the same on mine too few months back .. the HD went kaput too sad.gif

Have you experience any beach ball symptom lately? If yes, you might have a bad HDD.

My wife is complaining about the beach ball once again, this is on a new Hitachi 500GB/7200rpm replacement that was put in last week. Anybody else having a problem with mid-2010 MBP/15, i5?

Found the following link about the problem:

"gay" means two things:

1. "homosexual"
2. carefree, happy

No idea which one he refers to though smile.gif

One thing need to be done on wifi problem, first .. turn off any security, test it .. if this is okay, try using WEP, if this okay .. then try WPA/2 .. BTW, what kind of router are you using dinraxxx?

The ACPP can be used only if you bought it within a year. Like say if you've bought your notebook 1st April 2010, you need to get an ACPP within a year, hence, before the 1st April 2011. So, if you've bought your MB in 2008 and the ACPP within that year and you did link them together (yes, you just can't buy ACPP w/o registering it to your notebook), then the warranty will be up to 3 years from when you bought your notebook .. hence, early 2008 + 2 additional years .. early 2011 is the end of your warranty.

Guys, I hv a question here. I went to digital mall yesterday and the seller told me no need upgrade to 4gb for MacBook air 13". Since its using new technology - SSD drive. So you can't compare core 2 duo in window and in Mac. Mac do not need that much ram to run like window. Is this true?

How long it takes if I want upgrade to 4gb?
*
I would say the guys just talking bollocks smile.gif Mac as Windows will be happy if you can give it as much RAM as available .. which reseller did you go? Guess the PCZone one. Order it online, it will take few days extra I guess if you need the 4GB instead of the stock 2GB configuration.

zergg, most probably a hard disk problem. put your ear near where the HD is and try to hear if you can heard something strange .. sometime, when there is a bad sector, it will retries to read the HD and that is when you can hear that strange sound..

Of late, the discussion in this Thread is oft times about the latest MBA which is an an interesting read.

I have a question which I dunno whether ever raised b4. My question is, MBP comes with iSight camera? It can be used for video chat, right? If this is the case, how to start a video chat? Can I chat with the person who is not an MBP user?

Yahoo Messenger has webcam support, why not use it? I guess many of your friends are on YM anyway..

Put in the installation DVD, press "C" and let it boot up, when it ask do you want to install, go to file bar, find a disk utility there and run disk utility.. there is an option to do the repair. More info can be found here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

And yes, you could upgrade your HD to SSD, just go and get yourself an SSD, bring it to any Apple service centres, they're more than happy to do it for you for RM50 service fee without OS installation though.

I was using my MBA 13" with an external monitor. Then when I touch the laptop, I get some small shocks(tingle). If I remove the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, I don't get the shocks. Any idea why?
*
Make sure your external monitor is properly 'grounded' (electrically) .. does it have three-pins plug? Do you have this external monitor plugged into a power strip/block? Try to plug the power cable straight to the wall socket, might be the power strip/block is broken (i.e. not grounded properly).
