QUOTE(Isaac Chong @ Dec 24 2010, 05:44 PM) If purchase Mac Notebook in US, it will come with how many plug? Only a 2-pin plug(US) or come together with another 3-pin plug? only 2 pin plug. and also, price is quite pricey there if u buy in california, got almost 10% tax. better buy in hongkong if u have chance, i did, sumore got 3pin plug like we use here in malaysia. |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Feb 11 2011, 01:53 AM) If you can wait, I think probably better idea to wait but who knows how long it will be before the new MBP is released. Mar seems unlikely. April? Maybe even as late as June given the Cougar Point problems. Certainly the update is imminent, even the local Apple dealers aren't stocking any more MBPs. bro, i have some noob questions. However, having said that, I did order a CTO MBP with 2.8Ghz & HR screen on 5/2. In fact it just shipped yesterday 10/2 and according to the tracking info, it's now sitting in Pu Dong Intl, Shanghai waiting for its ride to Subang. But my situation is a bit different. I've actually had a MBP 2.66 since last year. I sold it off to a friend who needed one urgently when he couldn't find any shops with the MBP in stock. This was a week before CNY which gave me some time to decide whether to wait for the new MBP. Initially I was prepared to wait until March or even April but ultimately decided not to as my work depends too much on it. My reasons: 1. Cougar Point problems may delay launch of MBP. I can't wait. No choice for me here. 2. Dual Core i7 only available 20/2. MBP release 1/2 mths after that? 3. Sandy Bridge i7 2.7Ghz is only slightly faster than Arrandale 2.8Ghz (but might be cheaper) 4. TDP is the same, I think, so no battery savings. 5. Skip Sandy Bridge and wait for quad-core Ivy Bridge. Of course I'm going to kick myself if they come out with a new MBP next Wednesday. Does anyone know about the return policies when buying from the MY online Apple Store? what is cougar point? what is TDP? oh, also, i was thinking of upgarding the RAM on my 2010 13" MBP to 8GB but i dunno which brand to choose, but its supposed to the DDR3 1066 type isnt it? |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Feb 11 2011, 02:38 AM) Cougar Point is Intel's chipset for the new Sandy Bridge i7 CPUs. The problem I was referring to is where its last 4 SATA ports would destroy itself over time and stop working. oh ok, thanx bro!TDP is Thermal Design Power which specifies how much heat a design of a notebook needs to dissipate. Any DDR3 1066 will work, check your Mac manual for the exact specs required by Apple. Added on February 11, 2011, 3:00 amyeah, my MBP come with 4GB RAM from factory. i wanna upgrade to 8GB since i saw SSD price is super expensive. well.... to be honest im not so sure if i need 8GB... but i do play games like modern warfare 2 and bioshock(both buy from Mac App Store) and Call of duty:black ops(run on bootcamp window 7)... when i play Black Ops on my MBP, it lags a bit sumtimes, so i think adding RAM will help? how much is 8GB DDR3 1066 RAM nowadays? QUOTE(soonwai @ Feb 12 2011, 04:45 AM) I think only Apple knows about the new MBP design, if any. I personally think the design will stay the same until next year. bro, how much is your Corsair 240GB SSD? i was looking for an SSD(u recommended to me remember bro) and saw a trader selling OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. he offered rm13++ for a 240GB SSD, is it ok the price? In the US, you can if you're not satisfied with the product, here dunno. Clicking on the Returns link in the MY Apple Store Help section results in a 404. SSD = huge performance increase because the HD is the greatest bottleneck in any computer. You can buy your own, I'm using a Corsair 240GB. Added on February 12, 2011, 4:50 am Can try to sell to PC users whose notebooks came with 2x1GB. All current Macs are now 4GB min aren't they? Won't be worth much though, 2GB sticks are only RM70 new. So happy, I'm going to be new MBP owner for the 2nd time in 8 months. :-) Feb 12, 2011 03:26 Hhp - HHP Clearance processing complete - Hhp - HHP Feb 11, 2011 17:37 Pvg - PVG Clearance processing complete - Pvg - PVG Feb 11, 2011 00:42 Pvg - PVG Clearance delay - Pvg - PVG Feb 11, 2011 00:41 Pvg - PVG Shipment on hold - Pvg - PVG Feb 10, 2011 18:35 Sha - SHA Departed from facility - Sha - SHA Feb 10, 2011 18:34 Sha - SHA Processed - Sha - SHA Feb 10, 2011 18:02 Sha - SHA Shipment picked up - Sha - SHA Does DHL deliver on a Saturday? For those who might be interested in the online Apple Store process, here's a timeline of my order. Apple is quite efficient. Feb 5: I ordered on the 5th. It's a CTO so Apple's website says "Ships in 3 business days". I expected delays since it's only 3rd day of CNY. Probably everyone in SG and CN still on holidays or in holiday mood. Feb 7: Received order acknowledgement. I guessed no one worked over the weekend. So now they're preparing the MBP and, possibly, frantically searching for the last non-Sandy Bridge CPU to put into my order. Forgot to add it's an edu order, later in the afternoon, someone, probably from SG called to asked for Student ID, Uni, etc. At this point I'd like to thank my cousin in USM, PG. Feb 9: Status changed to "Prepared for shipment". Feb 10: Status to "Shipped". Exactly 3 business days. Now DHL takes over and we'll see if DHL really stands for "Dua Hari Lambat" :-) |

QUOTE(macduck @ Feb 13 2011, 11:45 AM) bro, the current largest SSD is only 240GB ? or is there any for 500 GB ? u can find my trader at the ''Memory & Drives'' section, just search for his lowyat nickname, ''ronaldjoe"".Added on February 13, 2011, 11:53 am hi bro, may i know how to contact your trader for the SSD? and have u received the SSD already ? is it in good condition? he didnt keep ready stock of the 240GB SSD, only 120GB he has ready stock. so he ordered it for me. i'll update in this thread when i receive the SSD so we can share the performance boost review nabielz, the OCZ Vertex 2 240GB SSD i ordered is rm1380, do you think the price i paid is reasonable? oh sumthing i was thinking about yesterday... if i'm not mistaken, in one of the videos about the Macbook Air posted on Apple website, they were talking about how flash based storage could be present in all future mac computers. do you all think it's possible next generation MBP's will come standard with SSD storage? or even hybrid storage? (hybrid=conventional harddisk + SSD) |
