20-year-old Koyurugi Sota (Matsumoto Jun) who attends a confectionary school fell in love at first sight with his senior Takahashi Saeko (Ishihara Satomi) during high school days. Like a wish come true, he is in a relationship with her now. After a lot of effort, they started dating right before Christmas. However, Saeko says she cannot meet Sota on Valentine’s Day which they should have commemorated together. He manages to see her on the eve of Valentine’s Day, but she will not accept the chocolates he has made for her with all his heart, knowing that she loves them. In addition, he is even told that she did not mean to date him. However, the single-minded Sota is not discouraged. Resolving to become a chocolatier to make Saeko pay attention to him again, he goes over to France alone. After training for five years, he returns to Japan and converts his father’s (Takenaka Naoto) patisserie Tokio to Chocolate La Vie. Saeko has married another man by this time. Even so, Sota does not give up. Because she loves the chocolates from the chocolatier Ricdor, he initially views the owner and chef Rokudo Seinosuke (Sato Ryuta) as his rival. However, he gets fascinated by the unique way in which Rokudo looks at the world and makes him his goal. On the other hand, Sota meets a model Kato Erena (Mizuhara Kiko) who also has a one-sided love for another man. They identify with each other due to their similar circumstances, get physically involved and become sex friends.

A group of university students who belong to the same tennis club, Shino Yuta (Seto Koji), Sakurada Miki (Ishibashi Anna), Sasaki Rinka (Triendl Reina), Takano Natsu (Yoshizawa Ryo), Fueki Mana (Kojima Fujiko), Tachibana Satsuki (Miyoshi Ayaka) and Sakurada Wataru (Kiriyama Ren), go on a graduation trip to a cottage in the mountains in winter. Yuta, the cool and brilliant president of the club, is attracted to the sociable and trusting Miki, and intends to tell her about his feelings on this trip, but things do not work out the way he wants. Miki is dating Yuta’s good friend, the free-spirited Natsu and is so into him that she is blind to her surroundings. The seven friends have conflicting positions and when love starts to go down the tubes, a murder occurs like a bolt from the blue. Amid the fear and doubt, hidden emotions begin to come into the open through exchanges which probe each other’s intentions.

Takuto, who had given vague thought to his goals in life, starts to explore what is left of his life and live with a positive attitude.

The beautiful mystery buff Umizuki Chinami (Takei Emi) and career elite has been assigned to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division as a rookie detective. However, on her first day of work, she is told that she is not in their future plans. Chinami ends up partnered with the handsome detective Shitara Kyosuke (TAKAHIRO) who has a black belt in karate. The First Investigative Division’s ace, Kyosuke had a promising future until he winds up having the blundering Chinami as his partner. Even though the two of them are scolded by veteran detectives and made to feel like a burden, this curious duo confront and solve difficult cases, and save Japan.

The Disaster Medical Assistance Team, known as DMAT, was established in response to the lessons learned from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. First launched in Tokyo in 2004 and then deployed to other prefectural and city governments, it is a team of specialists that responds to major catastrophes and accidents such as a big earthquakes or airplane and train crashes. They are not full-time staff but have been volunteered by the persons in charge of designated hospitals. DMAT has to work under the restrictive conditions of disaster sites which are not properly equipped. There are times when they have to prioritise the lives to save, and provide improvised medical treatments in some other instances. A split second’s hesitation can mean the life or death of a person. Yakumo Hibiki (Okura Tadayoshi) works at Tokyo’s Arisugawa General Hospital. He was with the emergency room until a year ago but transferred to the department of internal medicine after the shock of being unable to save his younger sister (Takimoto Miori), who was admitted because of an accident. She then slipped into a coma. However, the newly-appointed hospital director (Kunimura Jun) nominates Yakumo to be a member of DMAT.

Makabe Yukiko, the head of the Special Investigation Team’s Third Section, prides herself on her superior negotiation skills. She tries to convince a criminal who is holding a bus hostage. However, an unanticipated situation arises and she fails. Yukiko is held fully responsible and is ordered to transfer to the Emergency Investigation Response Team, which goes by the name of Kintori. The director, Kajiyama Katsutoshi, whom she has always not got along well with, heads the Kintori. It is a professional team of outstanding interrogators put together to carry out interrogations, particularly for cases that are deemed important. Yukiko embarks on a new chapter at the Kintori surrounded by idiosyncratic veterans Hishimoto Susumu, Nakata Zenjiro, Koishikawa Haruo. She also determines the truth of an unsolved case deeply linked to her past.

At that moment, a man wearing leather gloves calls out to a female elementary school student and asks her to put a cookie tin in a police box in the Tokyo metropolis. This tin explodes inside the police box, and claims the life of one police officer. From a tip-off obtained from an anonymous caller’s and the statement of the elementary school student, detectives Watanabe Tetsuji and Kenmotsu Daijiro of the First Investigative Division establish that the man with leather gloves is the famous lawyer Fujishiro Tamotsu who only undertakes cases involving wrongful convictions. But Fujishiro completely denies the charges and even holds his own under the Kintori’s interrogation. Meanwhile, a man claiming to be the real criminal turns himself in to the police. However, the man simply will not divulge his identity, and says with arrogance, “I surrendered because I want all of you to recall who I am.”

Furthermore, the man has planted an unconventional bomb at some place to claim the lives of countless residents. It has been rigged to explode 42 hours later. Yukiko is picked by the man and immediately starts to interrogate him. But he is extremely formidable and skillfully parries her questions no matter how she presses him. With a time limit of just 42 hours, will Yukiko and the Kintori be able to uncover the man’s true identity and motive, and save people lives?

There are over 600 orphanages across the nation, housing approximately 30,000 children; Most of them had been abused by their parents. Maki, was placed into the orphanage "Kogamo no Ie", after her mother, Ryoka, was arrested and jailed. There she was handed over to the care of Kana, and also Sasaki, the eccentric caretaker of the home. Under Sasaki's management, the home is a calm and safe haven from all the madness of the real world.
