I'm not sure if my laptop can support StarCraft 2. Because I don't have a desktop and I only have a laptop.

And I heard about the overheating problems.

Here are my specifications.

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1
System Manufacturer: Acer
System Model: Aspire 4736
BIOS: InsydeH2O Version V1.06
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM
Page File: 969MB used, 5374MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 10

Do you think I can run the game?

Upgrade your Vista to SP2

Download latest driver for G105M. Driver DL

Because G105M only comes with 8 cuda cores, less than 9400M of 16 cores so use low setting on the game

Good luck tongue.gif

Er.. just go to windows update and it should have the option to update to SP2, but if urs is "having some difficulty" then do google around, we cant help u on that. But SP2 does improve the speed quite some margin.

Bro, your graphic card spec is slightly better than mine.

Mine is GT 320M , 4GB RAM , Core i5 520M.

Can play smoothly in high settings, no problem at all.

Lol, Im using core 2 duo, and my DirectX version is only DirectX10. Yours is DirectX11.

And your VRAM is 1GB. Mine only 512mb.

I can play medium-high settings on 1024x768. All ultra and high, except for Shadows, Lighting, Shaders, reflection, post processing, physics.

Yours I think can run on the highest settings with everything maxed out, i think.

dude i tried playing with my amd turion and x1100 yesterday. it was awesomely laggy but still managed to go on 4v4 games so should not be a problem. for the record, still can pawn other players with the high lag spikes experienced.

Smooth gameplay would depend on your resolution and settings.

Lag is determined by the reliability of ISP not by laptops.

Yeah... mine one after playing campaign for 30 mins or so, felt heaty on the palm rest area of the laptop even I am using a cooler. Perhaps I should lower the resoluton to 720 so can play longer smile.gif

By the way, will the GPU burns if too heaty?

For laptops, I am not sure whether you can control the fan speed.

Download Rivatuner and give a test.

Make sure you don't simply use the advance options.

Just adjust the fan speed when necessary.

I have a feeling that 9600M GT notebook graphic card is better than my G105m....though i bought my laptop September last year...not even one year yet

but I can only play SC2 with 1024x768 resolution with graphic settings on medium, terrain ultra, all high, except everything low on shaders, shadows, lighting, physics.

50-80 fps when playing single player campaign, or building my base

30-40 fps when got lots of units

can someone put the best configuration for my laptop?

Hi Kianweic: I installed a temp monitoring software "Real temp" and it shows normal temp of GPU is 50-51 degrees while after playign the game for an hour, I checked and found that temp is 72 degrees. Is it ok for the GPU? Do you have any idea of the danger zone temp for GPU?

By the way, where to see the frame rates of SC2?

Thank you for your help.

HI Gormaz: I am using HP HDX18 notebook.

Seems ok for GPU. 72c for load is quite ok. If worry just put a notebook cooler (good ones), and Evercool exhaust fan for notebooks.

To see frame rates in SC2, press ctrl + alt + F.

Or you could download FRAPS.

Best graphic settings for my laptops so that I can play the game without lag.

But anyway, I'm quite glad that my game doesnt lag and it is not the lowest settings. Only lags a bit when there are too much units.

*
72 degrees is very normal. Mine can go up to 85 degs w.o aircon. Typically for gpus the limit is 95-100 degs.

Best graphic settings for my laptops so that I can play the game without lag.
But anyway, I'm quite glad that my game doesnt lag and it is not the lowest settings. Only lags a bit when there are too much units.
*
Takes a lot of experimenting.

Just make sure the game can run above 60fps at almost all the time.

Then you won't experience any lag.

i have a 2 year old 1st edition Dell Studio 1535, bought from the US,
2.OG intel
256 ATI mobility 3400 (max res 14xx x 9xx)
3G ram
about 100G hdd

i can run SC2 at full res at low details, smoothly on OFFLINE (campaign) play but lags on ONLINE

and overheats and shuts my lappy down after about 2hrs play

for OFFLINE players you might to consider your video settings to be at least 1G for hi-res play or at least setup for HD.

you might want to have a good cooler as even the high end ones are having issues when playing SC2 at hi-res if the cooling system isnt good. (my friend is using M15x at 1G video, but had a crappy cooler, it overheats and shuts down after 2-3 hour gameplay of SC2

for ONLINE players, better recheck you connectivity, broadband or cable AND your video and cooling system.

recommended settings for hi-res play (botth online and offline) for continious play

at least
2.0G cpu
3G ram
1G video
1Mbps connection
about 20G free hdd
very nice cooling system

i didnt name any brand as so long as the brand meets the requirements, SC2 would run OK

OR you can always check SC2 official website for details

Erm, ure statement bout video cards with 1GB vram is abit ambiguous. Performance does not depend only on amount of vram a gpu has, but also the gpu core itself. Ure midrange gpu (For eg. 9600m gt/ HD4650) may have 1GB vram but it is still not sufficient to play smoothly in ultra.

So, for ultra settings, I recommend performance class cards like GTX 260m/ mobility HD4850 and above.

I'm using a DV6000 series HP laptop,specs as below:

Code Duo T2250 1.73ghz
geforce go7400 128mb
3gb ram
windows 7
120gb hdd (3gb free after installation)

game works fine, and even defaults to medium settings rclxub.gif

i had to lower all to LOW and use the lowest resolution, and so far so good.
the cinematics lag like crazy(during the final sequence, the credits actually appeared DURING the video sequence!it's that laggy rclxub.gif but the audio during those sequences play just fine)

game wise it's good enough. as far as i can tell only in really explosive battles does it hog down.

reading about the overheating issues got me scared, but so far i'm yet to overheat the laptop, despite playing more than 5 hours sometimes. smile.gif

*sigh* I HAD to overclock my GPU to 631/880 and I'm still not getting satisfactory results.

Anyone got a solution? I hear others play on medium with their 8600M GT cards fine.

Or can the bottleneck be my C2D 2.4ghz?

Hi Zeratos, I dont think the cause is the C2D processor.. I'm running C2D 2.53Mhz and works fine... Dont see any lag on medium + high settings.

I'm sorry to say that if your laptop's specification is less than mine (LOOK AT THE FIRST POST), then your SC2 campaign will lag like shit.

The first 15 campaigns do not lag, I got 30-60 fps

Then, the last few missions lag like my ass. FPS drops terribly from 60 to 5 fps. WTF.

But, multiplayer and skirmish with bots wont lag. I got constant 40-70 fps when playing these.

I guess most likely the lag is due to Integrated GPU...

Nowadays we need powerfl PC/ Laptop then only can play games smoothly.

However, Powerful = $$$

Hi Kianweic,
I'm on Macbook not Macbook pro, early 2009
Specs:-
2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3 memory
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
160GB hard drive

Have been playing campaign, custom games with fellow LYN users without any system crashes so far [touch wood]
I'm not sure/know how to measure the fps but gameplay is smooth with no lag even with many units on screen.

Guess i will only look into upgrade--> to play on ultra graphics when Blizzard launches its expansion sets.

I'm running SC2 on my 6-year old laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 8600:

Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHz, Single Core
Memory: 2048 MB
Video Card: ATI Mobility 9600 PRO Turbo 128 MB
Operating System: Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3

Graphics settings all set to low. I get the occasional in-game message to close other applications to speed up performance, but otherwise still playable. Takes about 2 minutes to load a level. I'm primarily a console gamer, so at least get to play the game is still considered OK smile.gif

How about mine?

P8700,HD4670 1GB DDR3,1080p screen

I doubt it can run at 1080p smooth with moderate settings, so how will it fare at 720p?

how's the latency like as well.. does it eat much bandwidth.. since now if not mistaken there are cap to the wireless broadband.. 3/5/6gb

i'm playing sc2 through umobile
not really sure on how to check the latency but it's still acceptable for unless u into competitive playing
as for the bandwidth usage, it's low, so don't worry about it

I dont recommend playing on wireless, though, as the ping could be much higher than wired.

yup. me playing on maxis bb. SC dont really uses a lot of data. if you are ol skool, you must know how ppl play chess by morse codes in the old days.

SC dont really transmits most of the graphics since they're all in your hd. so when you play, it only transmits the coordinates and action codes that will move the characters in your screen. most of the time anyway. but it does uses a lot of pings. the more you play, the more data it uses.

notice a strange slow down on Bnet gameplay..

Spec:
Win7 Ultimate 64bit
i7 740QM (2.9ghz)
8GB RAM
5850m (Overclocked from 625mhz to 790mhz)
128GB SSD

When I play 1v1 with A.I, I get 50-60 FPS constantly on Ultra.
But when I play 1v1 on Bnet, on the same map, I gets only 30-40fps :/
I mean, It's 55+fps at the beginning when I play with A.I, is there any reason I can only get 30-40+ FPS on bnet, under same settings?

well, any laptop above gt335m and hd5650 can run sc2 on ultra just low fps, something like 12-25 depends on mission. well, some ppl who just play sc2 as an enjoyment can accept such fps cuz you can still get the job done and for people who are dead serious about laddering will realized that all graphics are bullshit because in low graphic you can look clearer during battle as you need at least 60 fps all the time.

for me, i run high when im playing campaign in easy mode, just to enjoy the movie cut scenes but when am laddering, lowest setting.

Added on February 8, 2011, 9:33 am2gb to 4gb ram wont make a difference in graphic level from high to ultra. cuz ram factor is just too small. especially in mobile computing, graphic card is the major factor, even cpu, as long as its something like i5 or amd x3 its good enuf for sc2 adi.
