Personally, a monthly cap serves as a better option.

Why?

Even if TMNET throttles p2p, there WILL still be ways to bypass it using VPN, etc. SO leechers will be leechers.

I personally only d/l some things once in a while, now I can't do it. TMNET is punishing 80% of the internet users just because 10% of them abuse the bandwidth. I only use about 2-3 Gig a month.

A monthly cap solves everything - it's a truly FAIR policy.

Cap is the ONLY way to be fair to all.

By introducing all these measures to block bit torrent , I see it as punishing low bandwidth user like me who only use u torrent to get somethings once in a while, which does not even exceed 5gig a month. It's frustrating to say the least.

And these measures don't solve the issue of the leechers. They will still use VPN to get their way round it.

The fair thing to be done is
1. Introduce a monthly cap
2. For those who wants to get more bandwidth, give option for them to purchase the additional bandwidth, say Rm10 for every extra 10 Gig.

3. Or introduce a staggered charges for bandwidth.. starting from RM60/month for first 15 Gig, and Rm10 for every 5 gig extra.

I am paying RM110 to TMNET every month for what? to use Gmail and facebook only?

its just stupid to recommend the cap thing by those who said "i use very little bandwidth". better go revert back to 56k (dialup era) if you use little bandwidth.

I don't to be a psychic to know that you are one of the abuser. Yes, impose bandwidth cap for people like YOU.

To be on the fair side.

Streamyx is not blocking the download of mkv and avi files but only throttling it. We can still get the file but it only takes longer time. So it's not considered as censorship. If it's censored, we won't get it.

If we are downloading those big files (probably in GB), we tend to consume a lot of bandwidth for a long period of time. Not to mention we are opening several sessions for the download.

Not to mention, those files .avi and .mkv we download are possibly pirated videos or movies or dramas. In my opinion, we should be satisfied we can still download at a lower speed but not entirely blocked.

We will make people that want to use it for regular browsing to suffer greatly.

It's every human common nature to point and blame other people when something gone wrong but how many will look at ownself whether we are doing the right thing?

Agreed 100%

1mbps line, throttle u torrent to 5k/s.... with uncapped line /or/

1mbps line, download at full speed 110k/s... with capped line.

I will choose the 2nd option. Save electricity dude. Tenaga going to increase electric bills in coming month! Better to switch on the computer , choose things to download, and get it ASAP. When it's done, switch it off. No point to put the computer on 24 hours a day, to download at 5k/s. It's not energy efficient!

Maybe this is an evil plan by TMNET to force us to upgrade to Unifi?

they did not block. they just throttle. what their help line cs told u is correct. they did not block. they say tm policy has restricted and enforce the p2p regulation to avoid heavy congestion. doesn't mean block

Added on August 4, 2010, 12:10 pmmp3 not throttled? as far as i know mp3 still ok.

I think youtube and international websites have become faster now.....

not a bad thing to block p2p...

We can all protest by .. subscribing to 512kbps. Downgrade!
