if dono where to point? just direct + diffuser.. i also new flash user, and always do this. although it might a little bit shadow. but better i guess rather than underexpose shot due to insufficient power output

and personally i do, seeing C brand and N brand more inside my campus.. from 0.55kD ~1kD, d40(x)/60, d3k.. with 1kD dominate, and majority is just with kit..
