Hi all,

I got my Unifi installed with Huawei and the stupid DIR-615 2 weeks ago. Few days ago the DIR-615 went crazy on me and all the amber lights were on, including the LAN lights. After switching it off and on again, only the on off light remains in amber while the other lights are all dead. I could not access 192.168.0.1 at all from Day 1 of installation until today.

I have since quickly connected to Unifi via the Huawei by configuring the Huawei at 192.168.1.1 (as per its manual) to connect directly to Unifi via dialup. I managed to go on the net after that. A day later, I found out I can't access to 192.168.1.1 anymore. Am I being blocked by tmnut?

A few days ago, I saw that the Wifi light on DIR-615 suddenly turned green by itself, but tried accessing the Wifi but was told that the password provided together with the router (pasted onto the underside of the router) was wrong!?! Switched off and on again, and it was back to amber light.

I currently have an old D-Link wireless ADSL router DSL-2640T from my old Screamyx days which I wanted to use as a VLAN bridge as recommended by Rizvanrp but was thwarted because it uses an RJ11 cable and no WAN ports. Not sure whether I can use one of the LAN ports as a WAN port.

So now I'm left with the option to flash the DIR-615 to dd-wrt as advised by Rizvanrp. Question is, should I just go and buy a new router with WAN port or should I just go ahead and flash DIR-615?

Please be advised I'm not exactly pro at this, just a self-made geek with lots of reading, and some past vague knowledge when I studied comp science like 10 years ago, and hence I seek everybody here for help. =)

Thanks for any advice, tips and/or help! =)

I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-300n wifi router, now with DD-WRT firmware, followed rizvanrp guide, and the internet works, minus IPTV ofcos. Its been working for 30mins, keeping my fingers cross that this setup will be stable. speedtest 4.6Mbps, VIP5. At least i have a working unifi access while waiting for TM to replace the dlink.
*
I have a broken d-link as well and thinking of buying the Buffalo WHR-HP-300n. Where did you buy it and for how much? Also, the dd-wrt firmware comes together bundled in the router right, as in you don't have to flash it first? Thanks for any replies. =)

Buying a cheap router which is dd-wrt compatible is a good temporary solution but remember, all dd-wrt routers do not perform the same way. Each firmware, model and hardware revision have their own bugs which you need to sort out yourself so I don't think anyone is ever going to find a permanent solution for dd-wrt with IPTV + Internet support. Even if they do, it will only be for a specific router model and routers get phased out/reach their final sales cycle within a couple of years.

I think the best solution in the end if you want a permanent replacement for the DIR-615 (if its failing) is to get a VLAN capable switch. This will handle IPTV + Internet fine and you'll be able to use any IP router regardless of whether is has dd-wrt installed or VLAN support itself.
*
Thanks for the advice! Which VLAN capable switch and IP router would you recommend? And the setup you mentioned above is using the IP router as a VLAN bridge right, with the switch connecting to the RJ11 and subsequently to the wall? (Sorry very noobie). =p

*
Hi, where do I get the Brainslayer Aug 10 version ya? Am gonna go and buy WHR-HP-G300N today, hopefully. Can't afford the Cisco switch Rizvanrp recommended, and don't know where to find the Mikrotik in KL. Thanks for any tips and advice!

Yes, with or without the DIR-615, you can get a cheap yet value-for-money router which support dd-wrt (eg, Buffalo WHR-G300N), then just follow Rizvanrp instruction, plug-in to the Huawei BTU LAN2, that's all!
So the DIR-615 only use for IPTV purpose, when it goes down, no IPTV only but internet still on!! thumbup.gif

At this moment, it seem like Broadcom base chipset still having problem on dd-wrt VLAN tagging, I have tested Ralink & Atheros on Rizvanrp's method seem to work ok.
You may also want to check the following information before buying:

Routers which support dd-wrt, just type first few words, eg "Buffalo", then you will see the list:

List of routers spec [may consider either Ralink or Atheros base]:

Hi klseet,

I am trying to flash my WHR-G300N right now but I'm failing miserably (sorry I'm such a noob). Followed the flashing instruction on http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WHR-G300N and it seems that the TFTP I used installed the firmware (do I use the file labeled firmware or webflash? In my installation I used the file labeled firmware and renamed it to firmware.ram as per instruction) but after that when I tried accessing 192.168.1.1 it could not connect. When I accessed the default Buffalo's admin panel at 192.168.11.1 I still can access it. What did I do wrong?

Thanks for any advice!

Also another question for everybody, if I use the current firmware for Buffalo WHR-G300N and connect it straight to Huawei's LAN2 port, it will ask for PPPoE ID and pwd. Is this the same as my Unifi ID and pwd?

Guide as requested,

Any other questions kindly drop me a PM.

Also I will not be held responsible for any hardware problems in which would occur if somehow you screw up on the steps. So please at least have some knowledge on how to configure your personal router before hand.

Or just read the manual of the devices before proceed with this guide.

Good luck have fun tongue.gif

Tried the guide, but even after restart, the INTERNET_R_VID_500 still can't access to internet, except if I connect the cable to LAN1, which is the pre-configured port for DIR-615. All LANs have been checked at Layer 3. Any help is really appreciated, thanks!

If you get the WHR-HP-G300N [Atheros], there is way to flash-back even to the original firmware.
Buffalo also has it's own version of dd-wrt for this model [I believe it's from BrainSlayer also], but I would still recommend the BS's latest built.

For WHR-G300N [Ralink], I haven't flash-back to original before, I believe should be no problem as well as mentioned here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=67659&start=45
Hi, I'll try to write down the steps and reply you through PM as I'm not sure whether it's off topic to post here.
If I'm not mistaken, DIR-615 from TM is G1 model running on it's own firmware for TM's UniFi.
Those retail outside I think it's D1, D2 model.
Not sure whether the same or not, but I think might be different, otherwise TM no "special deal" with D-Link to provide UniFi customer "exclusively" liao .... wink.gif

Hi klseet, I managed to flash the WHR-G300N to dd-wrt firmware with success! And currently can replace the DIR-615 by connecting the WHR-G300N to LAN1 on Huawei. thumbup.gif

Now just trying to make any LAN port from Huawei to connect to the WHR-G300N. Tried prodigy's guide with no success, unfortunately. Only LAN1 can be connected to internet, even though all LANs are checked in Layer 3.

Thanks in advance for any help if you know why the Huawei is acting like this. notworthy.gif

Okay guys, I think I screwed up the Huawei pretty bad. Anyone has any experience resetting it to factory config? Can't even connect to VOIP (red light). Have also called up TM to have them come over.

Thanks for any replies.

Mind to share how? tongue.gif

Anywhere, does the 1 year warranty start from the replacement date or still stick to the registration date?
If start from the replacement date, I'm pretty sure we'll "make it" life-time warranty liao..... tongue.gif

What have you done?? shocking.gif
Did you actually follow Pr0di9y's instruction or not?
Did you backup the original setting somewhere before you start to configure anything?

Aiyoh, before you call TM, perhaps you should restore the original setting first ... sweat.gif

Yeah I did and then tangan gatal and pressed the reset button at the back. doh.gif rclxub.gif cry.gif

I did back it up but now can't access to admin panel at all. I told them I did a hard reset already. Now trying to figure out how to access the factory default admin panel. Tried 192.168.1.1 but didn't work. Will wait for TM unless forumers here can help me out. icon_question.gif

Won't the default IP be 192.168.0.1?
*
That one is for accessing dlink admin panel. Previously, I can access the Huawei admin panel using pr0di9y's method by setting static IP, subnet and gateway and accessing it at 192.168.100.1. But now cannot access even when using those steps.

OK let me get this straight, right now are you using your UniFi to access your internet? or you have another internet server there to help you make these posts?

All you need to do now is, to remove every single connection from the network ports on the BTU and try to access the BTU with the ip address 192.168.100.1 of course set a static IP on your network adapter with the same subnet 192.168.100.XXX subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.100.1. Once complete if you are afraid those Static IP settings are not applied properly on the computer that you choose to connect into the BTU with, do reboot it.

Once you done that, just start to access the Huawei BTU from all the LAN ports starting from 1-4 or 4-1 or which every port you want. IF that too fail then I'm sorry to say that you have been hand itch and some how miss lead yourself into changing some other settings on the BTU device. I might not mention it on the guide, but if you might notice that the BTU takes awhile to save those settings you applied on them so please by all means be patients.

If you have the tendency to hit the website pages more then once, then you better stop that habits lol.

Anyway, any changes you did in the layer 3 does not affect your access to the BTU. Unless somehow you manage to change all your settings and route all the LAN ports so some other WAN profile and not the one stated on the guide, then all the best...

Right now I'm at work accessing this forum. My line at home currently is totally inaccessible.

Will do as per what you outlined here once I'm back from work, appreciate the help. Sorry I might sound so dumb and gatal tangan but I'm here to hopefully learn to configure all this and hopefully can get both the IPTV and wifi working together, without stressing the DIR-615 too much. I'll try to be more patient. nod.gif

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think the modem+router can work with Huawei BTU, the WAN port is Cat5 not the telephone port.

Er, this WiFi thing I'm not expert, I believe there are many factors which may affect the signal quality.
Normally I'll put the WiFi access point around middle of living hall, on top of some cabinet or something, without too many electrical /wall/metal items around it, basically clear from any obstruction. You won't believe how bad the signal quality if I put the WiFi router next to Astro Byond.

So far I've been using the WHR-G300N [not full N-mode], setup WPA2+AES, no problem accessing from notebook or bridging with another router.
Since I'm using dd-wrt, can play around some option like TX power, channel & width, but mostly I just leave it as default and it works great at my double storey link house.

That DIR-615, I never bother to use it for internet, I configured it as VLAN [as per Rizvanrp's guide] and off the WiFi since day1, only use it for IPTV.
So I really have no idea how good or bad it is.
That really sound bad loh... better don't tell TM ppl what you've done, especially you logon to Huawei!!
Tell some story like "tiba-tiba lighting strike power supply, after that tiada internet then itch hand go re-set the Huawei and now semua mati sekali"!! tongue.gif

Yup, that's what I told them, hehe. icon_rolleyes.gif Fortunately, yesterday the lightning was quite strong as I live on top floor of high rise condo.
