That news was is December, this is recent. Its coming for sure anyways.

On a side note though, why use the stock ROM when you can use CM7? 

Galaxy S does. If it was supported, it will be. The new list is for new phones that are supported.

Guys, which would be a better choice this year? Most of the phones shown at the conferences are cool, but some wont work here, some just isnt worth it, some are pricey. What would be the best option when the new phones are out? Get the new ones or the current models? (I'm not planning on SGS2)

If your friend's budget can stretch to RM15xx I'd say get the Captivate. Won't regret it.

In fact, there IS one Android phone that fits that profile. The ONLY problem is that it ain't available locally!

The Orange San Francisco, or better known as ZTE Blade, too bad locally we can't get it thru ZTE at all! Argh!
WVGA OLED or LCD screen, running 2.1 standard with loads of custom ROM.
In fact, it's even hard to get an Android phone with the HVGA(320 x 480) resolution, which is the standard Android resolution for below RM600 in Malaysia, so far I only know Xperia X8 is one, but it wouldn't be upgraded to Froyo!

To make it easier, the SGS is a much better phone than the Desire. But question: Are you willing to fork out 2k for it? If you have, then don think, its SGS. If you do not have such a high budget, then Desire is your only option. The SGS is able to do what you want without problems. Nicer display. But the SGS does not have flash which the HTC has. And with a QWERTY touch keyboard, you do not really need t9.. just type

On your IT questions. Both the CPU are the same going at 1Ghz but different chips. HTC uses Qualcomm Snapdragon, Samsung uses humming bird. I too have no idea on the touch sensitive control. And WAV is a file format. Some songs are WAV format and not MP3. Nevertheless, both phones allow MP3 ringtones, just check the file format before putting them into ur phone. And UI means User interface. Different phones, different UI. Motorola runs Motoblur, HTC: Sense and Samsung TouchWiz. Best read this for info on UI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_interface

Basically my phone usage is just SMS, call sometimes, a lil' bit of gaming out of boredom, and also surf web/facebooking/tweeting via WiFi (no to 3G/etc.. need to pay xD)
sometimes checking/sync-ing emaill too if possible (via WiFi as well..)

I'm currently looking at both LG OP1 and Samsung Galaxy Ace, the Galaxy's design attracted me but it was rumored that it's around 256-386 of RAM only.. so which one should i go after? Or there is any other budget-tight Android phone? I'm currently using Nokia N79 with Symbian S60v3.. and I must say, I can't stand keypad+symbian phone anymore.. lol.
