Well, there has been many questions here asking for "The Best Security Security Software", unfortunately there's none which can protect you 100%.
So here i've compiled list of security software's which can be used to protect and disinfect your system in categories of functions.
I'll keep it simple to ensure it's understandable for novice users up to advanced users.

Anti Virus
-Avira AntiVir Personal

-Avast! Free Antivirus
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

-Microsoft Security Essentials
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

-Panda Cloud Antivirus
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

-Comodo Internet Security Premium
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

NOTE!: *Only use ONE on your system.
: *If concerned about 0-Day Malware Threats Advisable to go with Avast!/Microsoft Security Essentials/Panda Cloud

Anti Spyware/Anti Malware
-MalwareBytes' AntiMalware
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

-SuperAntiSpyware
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

NOTE!: You can have both on your system as the free version doesn't provide real-time protection icon_rolleyes.gif

Firewall
-For normal users, it is advisable to use the built-in Windows Firewall which is sufficient especially the ones in Windows Vista or 7.

-For Advanced users and would love a firewall wit HIPS I would suggest the following:
-Comodo Firewall
-PC Tools Firewall Plus

Misc. Security Software
-Prevx SafeOnline 3.0 Facebook Edition

-Sandboxie

-Spyware Blaster

Well Avira has FP's too according to AV Comparative's.. I think I should state it there smile.gif

Oh ya and ProActive is not refering to Avira's ProActive Module..

ProActive protection means when new malware emerge and the Antivirus handles it with heuristics..

Nope. Check it out. http://www.free-av.com/en/products/1/avira..._antivirus.html

Expanded Online Testing of Files – Participation in the Avira AntiVir ProActiv Community
The threat of new viruses and malware is continually on the rise. In many cases, traditional detection methods are no longer sufficient in effectively protecting you against outside attacks. New detection technologies must be added in order to effectively ward off attacks, especially by new viruses and malware.

With Avira AntiVir ProActiv, Avira makes just such a new technology available to you. Based on your system’s behavior, Avira AntiVir ProActiv can detect whether it is currently being attacked by a virus or malware and can initiate effective countermeasures.

On the basis of integrated rules, your Avira product autonomously decides whether one or more events on your system are attributable to a virus or malware attack. These rules are created in the Avira virus laboratory from the analysis of viruses and malware and made available to all Avira customers.

You can participate in the improvement of these rules and with it in the worldwide battle that Avira is waging against viruses and malware by using the expanded online test and joining the Avira AntiVir ProActiv community.

What takes place during the expanded online test and what data is transferred in the process?

In cases in which no unequivocal conclusions can be drawn based on the system's behavior and with the aid of the rules as to whether one is dealing with an attack from a virus or from malware, the Avira servers are queried as to whether the file that caused this behavior requires analysis. The following data is transmitted with this inquiry:

Information about the relevant rules
The MD5 sum of the file
The size of the file
Version number of the rules
If the answer is YES, the file is automatically sent to Avira. In doing so, the following data is transmitted:

The MD5 sum of the file
The file name
The contents of the file
The transmission occurs via a secure HTTPS connection. The transmitted information itself is encrypted.

Except for the above data, no information or personal data whatsoever that allows inferences to be made about the sender is transmitted. All submitted data is used solely for the purposes of analysis.

All events for which data is sent to the Avira servers are logged in the log file of your Avira product.

No, I do not think so, they are pretty new in HIPS. I think they have the best heuristic engine in the industry.

Still updated everyday. However if you mean the version never change, . PC Tools Antivirus uses same engine with Threatfire for proactive detection. So I guess if PC Tool comes with major version change it will be followed by Threatfire.

AVG might seems get improved in the 2011 version..but the installer size still turns some people off... > 110MB in setup alone, for free version.

I'd just use File, Web, Network and Behavior shields. smile.gif

I ditched AVG and use COMODO about half a year ago. Never regret doing that. smile.gif Use Malwarebytes' Anti Malware as well. These 2 never disappoint me. Anyway never install AV more than 1 as it will clash. Anti-spyware/malware should be okay though if you want to install and use 2 or 3 at the same time.

It all depends one.. Just understand that no AV/IS is 100% detection rate and removal of the virus/trojan/malware .. Because they continue to evolve.. That's why layered security is recommended for advanced users..

It's where you put your Internet Browser .exe to run inside and if infected it's only within the sandbox and won't infect your system. More to virtualisation or the application.

I think Avast Free version is sufficient for most of the user. All the AV stated by TS has been tested by me before. Previous avast version got two running icons on the system tray which eat more memory resources, but luckily they've changed a lot of its features in version 5. I like its simple interface, very user friendly. smile.gif

Oh well Avira 10 lacks the web, network and behaviour shield(only fully functional in version 6, now only passive learning). Also I believe avast! scans much faster on Full scan after the persistent cache is built and with "Check Persistent Cache" enabled. biggrin.gif

I used to use Avira but I find the ad thing annoying, plus it always have false alarms. I've changed to Avast and so far no problems at all, coupled with comodo firewall (both free version).
