as my problem settled n i decided to let u guys know how to recover back all...err not 100% gerenti, but almost 99% u can get back all ur files using this R-Studio (Latest is 3.0) downloadable at R-Studio Data Recovery --- remember it's demo n it only allowed u to recover maximum 64KB in size no matter how big ur file is...
i'm not going to tell u how to pay/crack or watsoever...

in my case...i use my Maxtor 80GB which is was in Dynamic Mode, unreadable after format n install WinXP SP2. so i use R-Studio Data Recovery...

well...i recovered all of my MTV Collection, n some of the file seems like exchange with another file...say...i launch Cradle Of Filth - Nymphentamine.mpg, n Media Player plays Siti Nurhaliza - Bukan Rahsia.mpg  , true...n i dunno why/ n how's that happen...

I used dskprobe.exe to change dynamic to basic disk.. It worked just change a value and the hd (IDE) became a basic disk...

Anyone has any idea on roughly how much it will cost me if I send a 20GB hdd for data recovery?

It's in a severe state (bloody tick tick tick sound), a data recovery program won't work because the disk won't properly start. I've tried.

Windows OS installed in my 40gb corrupted.

Then, I'm not able to format the hdd in NTFS but weirdly, I can format it to FAT32.

I wonder why.....Anyone?

To my experience several things might have happened to your external hdd.
1. Bad sectors
2. Bad SMART (IC spoilt)
3. Using the front chassis usb ports(for pc)- this is a big no no. Pls use the back    ones as the front usb ports have not enough power to fuel the external hdd. data will corrupt.
4. Initial formatting of hdd should be formatted by a pc using a hdd convertor. Means the notebook hdd should be attached to a pc using a ide adaptor. The data will be more stable and correct hdd size will be reported accurately.

previously i cant access to  my 2.5 hdd using external usb 2.0... after going thru this post... i got myself a 2.5 to 3.5 ide adapter at low yat place.... connect to my pc and i got all my file back!!!

I lose my 127 GB data after using Partition Magic v8.5 performed the Resizing Partition & Creating Partition. Data gone because in the middle of process Partition Magic doing Resizing have "error", and turn my harddisk partition into very weird partition name #D~*) instead of D and it show my drive partition have 127GB free space. Holy shit...      

Problem: 127Gb data gone
Root Cause: Middle of process of partition magic doing partition resizing (i do this bcos plan to created another partition)
Drive Info: Seagate 200GB PATA detected as 127GB; created under 1 NTFS partition (127GB)
OS: Winxp Pro (no service pack)

Currently, i already recreated this drive (200GB) into 2 partitions under NTFS and running system now. However, i still want to recover back my previous data if there is a chance even need to erase my current system files. this is ok as long as able to get back data

So, with using Active Recovery or Ontrack Easy Recovery pro, is it will successfully cover back my previous single NTFS partition with 127GB fully data?

Im now also facing the same problem. Everytime i plug in my ext 2.5 hdd, the pc goes hang....after i unplug the notebook hdd, the pc is working fine...
some file is corrupted in 2.5 hdd...so now very upset...

guys, u all noe how to recover data from a spoil hdd? the hdd when i use it as external.....it has no file system(not ntfs or fat32 or basic or dynamic....just plain) but previously it IS install with winxp home.

Got noisy sound, maybe bios try to detect it. On bios screen, it state there hardisk name. Maxtor 40... something la. But any information on cylinder, sector, size, just state 0 (zero). Try at many pc, make it slave, make it master, change cable, still same result. Dont know what to do now.

I have 200gb hdd use as external harddisk and I think my hdd has bad sector since my com always can't detect it and I have reformat about 6-7 times already. I used Easyrecovery Profesional but it can't recover all of my files. 

Is there any programs that can eliminate the bad sector in my hdd?

I have a 80Gb SATA seagate hard disk, but it cant detect in my BIOS , meaning cant find any driver.

But my hard disk is spining/runing, Is there a possible to repair? my 6 year data is inside, i am sure that all the wayar that i plug is correct.

Guys i wanna ask something bout my hard disk, weird problem happens.

My problem was my hdd had remaining of 2GB left space, but after i played a round game of Serius Sam then i quit, i saw my hdd space remained 22MB left what has happened ?  Even i restarted my pc, my hdd still detects my hdd remaining space was still 22MB... where has the rest suddenly gone ?

one day, when i turned on my computer, i cant get in 2 window.

my windows is win xp sp2 media center edition.

it said this file----> \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing

it said need 2 insert setup disk 2 repair. i dont have. so, i use system

recovery.everything looks fine,the desktop still there, but all cant open.

the saddest thing is all my personal files gone.

My laptop hard disc was infected with a virus that caused most of the files to be hidden. I managed to unhidden all the files. Now my external hard disc had been infected also, but the problem now the partition cannot be detected and the hard disc tends to be heated quite fast.
