Thanks BN..
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration has taken a politically risky manoeuvre by raising prices of three types of fossil fuels, sugar and cooking gas. Both RON95 and RON97 grade petrol and diesel prices will be raised by RM0.05 per litre, while liquified petroluem gas (LPG) will be raised by RM0.10 per kilogramme. Sugar prices will be raised by RM0.25 per kg. All price increases will take effect from midnight tonight. The breakdown of the new prices are: * RON 95 grade petrol - RM1.85 per litre * RON 97 grade petrol - RM2.10 per litre * Diesel - RM1.75 per litre * White refined coarse granulated sugar - RM1.70 per kg * Liquified petroluem gas - RM1.85 per kg For cooking gas: (each cylinder) * 10kg - from RM17.50 to RM18.50, RM1.00 hike * 12kg - from RM21.00 to RM22.20, RM1.20 hike * 14kg - from RM24.50 to RM25.90, RM1.40 hike From Malaysiakini |

QUOTE(zeus2005 @ Jul 15 2010, 07:19 PM) 5 cents increase no need to queue imho, might ends up spend more than 5 cents just to save the 5 cents increase. Is true also.. 40 liter can only save you about RM2.I am just concern about the other goods price hike actually. Imagine the amount of petrol you going to waste while queuing for the pump. It might cost more than RM2. |

The problem with our Govt is the petrol price can go up, if market price is up, but if go down, they need to limit it so that the petrol station owner will not lose money, at least according to our Govt. Anyway, I just pump fuel in Washington states where the there are a lot of taxes and the price is like about RM2.5x per litre. I guess the Govt want to remove the subsidy and at the same time incorporate some taxes to the fuel.. |

If float it should be updated daily rather than monthly.
Added on July 16, 2010, 9:19 amI realize that the gomen sector using a lot of non-local brand vehicles for instance JPJ using Immigration and Fortuner 2.7L, Highway patrol police using X-Trail and a fleet of EvoX. All this are fuel guzzling vehicle. There is no need for the 2.7L Fortuner as the 2.5L Diesel is cheaper on the running cost n cheaper as well better still use the Exora if they need the space. As for the Police why Evo n not the Satria GTi? After all they only travel in pairs and most 3 person the most!! Y are we paying for their luxury and petrol? I've 5 polis Evo X patrolling 2 rows of shophouses at the same time escorting a chief to the Bank!! Is this the right way waste? If they want their presence to be felt, I suggest use a Hi-ace or better still their FRU truck which can carry more personnel!! Gomen always said that we were subsidized in BILLIONS of RM for petrol but in actual fact, how many % of the petrol subsidized by the Gomen are used/enjoyed by the people ? QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Jul 16 2010, 02:00 AM) To increase just a pathetic 5 sens, they make all sorts of 'sympathetic' reasons. Way the go, Najib. Then go. Nobody is stopping you. If you can't make it big in Malaysia, you are not going to do any better elsewhere. What? Go to Singapore and compete with the Singaporeans?I think better we move to another country. |

QUOTE(yap.ben @ Jul 16 2010, 09:08 AM) If float it should be updated daily rather than monthly. agree!! finally someone noticed this too. Gomen always said that we were subsidized in BILLIONS of RM for petrol but in actual fact, how many % of the petrol subsidized by the Gomen are used/enjoyed by the people ? they ask us to bear the cost, they ask us to help to pay for gomen deficit budget, and they continue wasting the money. Its funny that when they are working they are driving an expensive car, and after work, they gone home with a motor cycle. This country is not healthy. Gomen office is way way more luxury than their own house. If i tell you how much they spend to renovate gomen building, you'll go crazy. Contractor told me, they can spend RM8000 on a tile 2X2, import from spain. Yea,Rm8k on a 2x2 tile. imagine how many millions to renovate a building. QUOTE(Empathy @ Jul 16 2010, 02:10 AM) If RON 97 is free float, it should be up or down regularly according to the current crude oil price...but all this time I see that the RON 97 is stagnant... Now it is officially free float without subsidy. Previously the framework has not been set when they launch the RON95. That means the petrol company can start using promotions on the RON97 to attract their customers.. I believe they did that once and every week, the SHell and Petronas opposite each other in USJ were selling petrol at 1 cent cheaper then each other until the gov stepped in and stopped them since they are giving offers on subsidised petrol. Now I think they can start the price war again. |

QUOTE(Vincent Pang @ Jul 16 2010, 10:00 AM) so you are saying malaysian are richer than ppl in UK, Germany, France and USA ? no la, i mean, if you're poor, and you stay in western countries i mentioned above, your right is protected.IMHO, if you are poor, stay in a even poorer country like Indonesia, Thailand, certain part of China. Their average majority monthly income is less than RM1k per month. in Msia,Thai, China, poor man's life is cheaper than dirt ( esp in china). While in those western countries, you have your human rights and you are treated equally. US medical fee is a little high, but if you have a job, your employer need to pay it. And all hospital will treat you first, then only talk about money ( real experience). While in msia, you take out your credit card or you borrow from anyone you know or take your medical card, other wise, you need to try your luck in public hospital. But to be frank, rich man = better stay in Third world countries, you can do whatever you want, you can kill someone and get off with it. Poor man= better stay in first world countries, your right is protected and you are treated equally, and no racism ( minimum). |

ANyway back to the topic,
I'm not overly worried about +5 cents for Ron95, but the trickle down effect would be the one to watch for, we all know our Roti Canai is made from 50% petrol so they have to increase by 10cent each. More worrying is ROn97 being floated, i feel they will adjust it up every month or so, and conveniently forget to adjust it downwards if global market prices drop. Also, with the removal of all these subsidies, does that mean our world highest car import/excise duties will be removed as well? |

damage had been done when the fuel price went up to RM2.70, so why argue over it? crude oil will be more expensive if the demand grow and fuel price will increase in the future
for the 5 cent increase, i think it is acceptable lah, let Ron97 floating also a wise choice, too much of subsidize won't help the country growth those who need more "vroom vroom" won't subsidize by government, isn't that fair for us? |

I rather gomen waste the money subsidizing us, than spend it all on mega projects where they get 30% kick backs, and use all into buying ferraris and sending their kids to oversea with our money. |

removing subsidies should also remove all things that cronies monopolize, let free competition flow in and have competitive price for consumers. If you let foreign players to sell sugar in malaysia i think the price will come down as a market effect

I briefly read this and here's a fact.
In Thailand, fuel prices are not subsidized. Folks there there have been living happily for a while without any subsidy all these while. My point is that ... we have been so comfortable living in subsidy thus all these problems arise. If you are complaining about the gov, tell me where in the world the gov is corruption free ? Mamak teh tarik prices goes up coz he maintains the level of sugar in the drinks. Carbonated water manufacturers are not fault free as well. We have one of the highest content of sugar in our drinks in the world. Compare the sugar content in a can of Coke in Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia and you'll see. I felt Malaysians should grow up and learn to be competitive. Once you feel you are competitive and you think Malaysia is not the place ... work elsewhere and they will pay you better and squeeze the living lights of you better as well. Honestly removal of subsidy is the way to go towards achieving better competitiveness. And I have been to countries where there's just too much subsidy - you really wish like you want to go back home to Malaysia. |

I'm concerned because i've been to a better country( perhaps the best country in the world), and i see how things can be better. If you only go to msia, singapore, then of cos msia is better. This is all happening in bolehland. You can start by reading malaysia-today forum ,and less lowyat forum, lol. You don't tell me you wan high salary, no need to work, no need to pay tax, gomen sponsor everything? this kinda thing like doesn't exist in the world. If got tell me, i'll be the first to go. Sorry for making this forum sounded like malaysia-today. I'll leave this forum for pure FnF talk only. ------------------------------------------------- So, FnF talk= 5 cents petrol increase= acceptable, cos big car=rich=no problem. Small car=fuel efficient=no problem. As if i'm in secondary school forum, lol. sorry for getting emotional, no hard feelings, i guess i'm caffeine overdose, lol. pardon me. ^^ have a great weekend guys. |

So in conclusion, if any of you here have not yet registered yourself to be a voter, please do so in preparation for the next general election.
Do encourage your friends, family and colleagues to register themselves as voters as well. |

QUOTE(sleepwalker @ Jul 16 2010, 09:59 AM) Now it is officially free float without subsidy. Previously the framework has not been set when they launch the RON95. That means the petrol company can start using promotions on the RON97 to attract their customers. Price war is good, in the sense that when all subsidies are removed, the market determines the price of the product. We have a right to choose which station gives more goodies to their customers. Think of the improved services like toilets, amenities and etc. Heck we might even get fuel rebates from supermarkets like ASDA or TESCO in UK.I believe they did that once and every week, the SHell and Petronas opposite each other in USJ were selling petrol at 1 cent cheaper then each other until the gov stepped in and stopped them since they are giving offers on subsidised petrol. Now I think they can start the price war again. I'm quite positive that when subsidies are removed, petrol companies would be pushed to introduce better quality fuels maybe even Euro4 diesel. These are all likely to happen in a free market. |

QUOTE(hye @ Jul 16 2010, 11:56 AM) I briefly read this and here's a fact. I agree with that you said ... subsidies are something sooner or later have to remove one, it is not a gov obligation to give you money for petrol, sugar ...In Thailand, fuel prices are not subsidized. But of course what a gov responsible is to increase our country's economy strength, and thus everyone become wealthier, if everyone pocket is not kosong, then inflation and removal of subsidies will affect us less ... if gov make public transport n city planning better, then we would less rely on petrol right? My main point is ... removal of subsidies is not a wrong move. Just that they forgot to improve our economy strength and public transport b4 remove it. |

QUOTE(stinger82 @ Jul 16 2010, 01:25 PM) huh, it took me like 1 hour to look for the news to support this, you are very lazy, next time read more newspaper ok? i like your figure, but u tend to interpret it differently. the 10 who doesn't pay tax is not ELIGIBLE or DO NOT wan to pay ? I seen a lot of businessman who drove mercedes and claimed they work less than RM3k. And i have seen a lot of hawker who doesn't know wat is tax also. If the 10 is not eligible, then i would strongly agree with u. Maybe you should take up extra english classes before you read newspaper or you would start misinterpreting a lot of things.Idris Jala RIGHTLY pointed out; Only 1 out of 11 working Malaysians pay income tax. Out of a population of 28 million Malaysians, only 1 million pay income tax. 40% of the country's total revenue comes from the oil and gas industry. http://www.malaysianmirror.com/homedetail/...iah-without-gst http://romerz.blogspot.com/2010/04/pariahs-born-or-made.html and dont get the illusion that i make less money because i'm concerned about the poor. every year i pay tax, and usually its my 1-2 months salary. I'm concerned because i've been to a better country( perhaps the best country in the world), and i see how things can be better. If you only go to msia, singapore, then of cos msia is better. At least got highway drive your ferrari. |

QUOTE(rcracer @ Jul 16 2010, 06:02 PM) i hope all the subsidies are gone, when it hit 2.70 roads were nice and clear and yet to hear anybody died from that period funny thing isnt it? everyone of us can afford expensive new Handphone every 6-12 months, big cars, but cannot afford petrol. IMO, our petrol/sugar/oil should have been priced the same as our neighbor long b4 now. I do not see a freaking reason why should a businessman who open a restaurant get all these subsidize. And those Silly fisherman are still enjoying RM1.25 rates and complain about the hike, wheres they are not the poorest group in the country. Why the heck we should pay our tax money to those silly fisherman? |

We are an oil producing nation so we should compare petrol price with other oil producing nations like Brunei, Arab Saudi, Iran, Nigeria and then we will know our oil is bloody expensive.
Can we compare durian price between Malaysia and Japan? |

QUOTE(Intrigue @ Jul 20 2010, 04:26 PM) When I fuel it at Washington States it was about 2.5x per litre, while in Vegas it is 1.9x. Different in the pricing is because of Washington States taxed high on the fuel itself, while Vegas, I doubt it. Will get cheaper if it was in Alaska since Alaska also have oilThis post has been edited by jasontoh: Jul 20 2010, 05:11 PM |
