Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration has taken a politically risky manoeuvre by raising prices of three types of fossil fuels, sugar and cooking gas.

Both RON95 and RON97 grade petrol and diesel prices will be raised by RM0.05 per litre, while liquified petroluem gas (LPG) will be raised by RM0.10 per kilogramme.

Sugar prices will be raised by RM0.25 per kg.

All price increases will take effect from midnight tonight.

The breakdown of the new prices are:

* RON 95 grade petrol - RM1.85 per litre

* RON 97 grade petrol - RM2.10 per litre

* Diesel - RM1.75 per litre

* White refined coarse granulated sugar - RM1.70 per kg

* Liquified petroluem gas - RM1.85 per kg

For cooking gas: (each cylinder)

* 10kg - from RM17.50 to RM18.50, RM1.00 hike

* 12kg - from RM21.00 to RM22.20, RM1.20 hike

* 14kg - from RM24.50 to RM25.90, RM1.40 hike

just received fren's sms saying fuel increase, dun bother 2 que liao la, waste so much time there just 2 get save.. half tank 19lit, save less then RM1... u do d math...should i go que or not?

Is true also.. 40 liter can only save you about RM2.
Imagine the amount of petrol you going to waste while queuing for the pump. It might cost more than RM2.

Hawkers are not stupid. Sometimes no choice because not only their cost increase. Their expenses also increase because of the gomen increase the price of everything. It's the chain effect. But guess what, next month your salary still the same!!!!

Yah man.. I still don't understand why there are still ppl voting BN. I know PR (DAP/PAS?PKR) are having their own prob and far fr perfect. At least there must be some changes and if BN lose and win back the next election, we might see a better BN govt!

If RON 97 is free float, it should be up or down regularly according to the current crude oil price...but all this time I see that the RON 97 is stagnant... something is definitely wrong here...

The problem with our Govt is the petrol price can go up, if market price is up, but if go down, they need to limit it so that the petrol station owner will not lose money, at least according to our Govt. Anyway, I just pump fuel in Washington states where the there are a lot of taxes and the price is like about RM2.5x per litre. I guess the Govt want to remove the subsidy and at the same time incorporate some taxes to the fuel.

now alot of things sure will go up..... like nasi lemak sure about rm1.50 per pack....

now is petrol later is toll ...this year our g gave us alot of surprise

they build the new palace for the king mah.. rm800mil.. so now the rakyat paying rm750mil, n gomen pay rm50mil for the king, 1 person...

so in summary, let 20mil ppl suffer, for 1 person having a brand new hse..

Added on July 16, 2010, 9:19 amI realize that the gomen sector using a lot of non-local brand vehicles for instance JPJ using Immigration and Fortuner 2.7L, Highway patrol police using X-Trail and a fleet of EvoX. All this are fuel guzzling vehicle. There is no need for the 2.7L Fortuner as the 2.5L Diesel is cheaper on the running cost n cheaper as well better still use the Exora if they need the space. As for the Police why Evo n not the Satria GTi? After all they only travel in pairs and most 3 person the most!! Y are we paying for their luxury and petrol? I've 5 polis Evo X patrolling 2 rows of shophouses at the same time escorting a chief to the Bank!! Is this the right way waste? If they want their presence to be felt, I suggest use a Hi-ace or better still their FRU truck which can carry more personnel!! Gomen always said that we were subsidized in BILLIONS of RM for petrol but in actual fact, how many % of the petrol subsidized by the Gomen are used/enjoyed by the people ?

Now it is officially free float without subsidy. Previously the framework has not been set when they launch the RON95. That means the petrol company can start using promotions on the RON97 to attract their customers.

I believe they did that once and every week, the SHell and Petronas opposite each other in USJ were selling petrol at 1 cent cheaper then each other until the gov stepped in and stopped them since they are giving offers on subsidised petrol.

Now I think they can start the price war again.

Think of it this way, 30% of RM8000 is more then 30% of RM80... right?

So... govt project have always been bigger (and more expensive) better...

so you are saying malaysian are richer than ppl in UK, Germany, France and USA ?

IMHO, if you are poor, stay in a even poorer country like Indonesia, Thailand, certain part of China. Their average majority monthly income is less than RM1k per month.

In fact the Indonesians which we have been abusing and looking down at them (until it made headlines there and here), has millionaires which are much more wealthy than us.
It is because of us looking down at others that we never look at our own selves what we went wrong. We always 'think' we are better than them.

in Msia,Thai, China, poor man's life is cheaper than dirt ( esp in china). While in those western countries, you have your human rights and you are treated equally.

US medical fee is a little high, but if you have a job, your employer need to pay it. And all hospital will treat you first, then only talk about money ( real experience).

While in msia, you take out your credit card or you borrow from anyone you know or take your medical card, other wise, you need to try your luck in public hospital.

But to be frank, rich man = better stay in Third world countries, you can do whatever you want, you can kill someone and get off with it.

Poor man= better stay in first world countries, your right is protected and you are treated equally, and no racism ( minimum).

Indonesian wealth is not distributed properly. 4% of the population controls 90% of the economy. You cannot consider that as a wealthy nation when the rest of the 96% fights for the remaining 10% wealth.

in Malaysia the wealth distribution is slightly better. Government + People who bribe them controls 90% of the economy. The others pay extra for everything.

ANyway back to the topic,

I'm not overly worried about +5 cents for Ron95, but the trickle down effect would be the one to watch for, we all know our Roti Canai is made from 50% petrol so they have to increase by 10cent each.

More worrying is ROn97 being floated, i feel they will adjust it up every month or so, and conveniently forget to adjust it downwards if global market prices drop.

Also, with the removal of all these subsidies, does that mean our world highest car import/excise duties will be removed as well?

damage had been done when the fuel price went up to RM2.70, so why argue over it? crude oil will be more expensive if the demand grow and fuel price will increase in the future

I rather gomen waste the money subsidizing us, than spend it all on mega projects where they get 30% kick backs, and use all into buying ferraris and sending their kids to oversea with our money.

In a perfectly well managed country, yes, removing subsidies will infact improve the overall economic condition of the country... alas we are not..

Govt's counter to the argument that our car is expensive have always been our cheap petrol.. now that this is gone.. what else is there to day? My RM50k excise duty paid for my damn car have already pre-paid to the govt all the petrol subsidies for the entire lifetime of the car!

Not really worry about fuel price but the domino effect for price of other consumer good might going up......luckily my family got own well in the back of house....(lucky the land was full of fresh mineral water...so saving alot laa for 3 years )

I actually glad also laa fuel price RM2.70..since I can ride my bike in piece....everybody is slow & less car on the road haha

removing subsidies should also remove all things that cronies monopolize, let free competition flow in and have competitive price for consumers. If you let foreign players to sell sugar in malaysia i think the price will come down as a market effect

I briefly read this and here's a fact.

In Thailand, fuel prices are not subsidized. Folks there there have been living happily for a while without any subsidy all these while.

My point is that ... we have been so comfortable living in subsidy thus all these problems arise. If you are complaining about the gov, tell me where in the world the gov is corruption free ? Mamak teh tarik prices goes up coz he maintains the level of sugar in the drinks. Carbonated water manufacturers are not fault free as well. We have one of the highest content of sugar in our drinks in the world.

Compare the sugar content in a can of Coke in Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia and you'll see.

I felt Malaysians should grow up and learn to be competitive. Once you feel you are competitive and you think Malaysia is not the place ... work elsewhere and they will pay you better and squeeze the living lights of you better as well. Honestly removal of subsidy is the way to go towards achieving better competitiveness. And I have been to countries where there's just too much subsidy - you really wish like you want to go back home to Malaysia.

if put corruption issue in, everyone can blame on government, if you are not happy, vote for changes

either Mr.A cut down his expenses or work hard to get increment, that's it, simple. Instead of whining, find a solution to settle the problem

Try denmark or any of the scandinavian country. Govt pay 90% of your last salary for up to 4 years after you get fired.
