This poll is to conducted to gauge your outlook and opinions on aged condos and apartments. No intention of upsetting anyone directly or indirectly.

If it is a Freehold property, it is worth considering.
Other than that, from how the building is being maintained and managed over 20 years, you can be sure whether or not they're doing the job right.

I have enough of new management screwing up billing and stuff due to inexperienced and dishonest staff.

20 year old is a bit old, but if it is very well maintained and good location, why not?

yeah, for someone to opt buying a 20 year-old property, I'm sure the overall maintenance aren't too bad. Some people said, the building quality could be much better than some of the new ones around.

that's true..
like me i've bought a property that's about 22 yrs, but very well maintained so far.. Juz need a bit more reno only..

i would say it depends on wat's the previous usage of the land whereby the property is located .. say, land that's palm plantation, or filled-land, etc .. 'koz that would be a 1 of very influencing factors on the life span of ur property ..
And also whether the property had been well-kept by the people staying in it ..

I thot it was only applicable to highrise (condo or apartment)? If for landed, I will not touch. Speaking on my own experience, older houses tend to require many expensive repairs which cannot be seen e.g. roofing & plumbing, termits.

blink.gif I thought condo/apartment also can face the same problems you listed? I have heard of condos having termites problem. Roofing - even if you are not on the top floor, may have pipe leaking issues, etc. Less than 10 years old properties also can have these problems..... doh.gif

Good thread, am also seeking same opinion. Apparently 80% don't mind old condos.

Why not, good location, half the price, double the space. Just reno, repaint and it will be like new.

Malaysians are too pampered. Look around western countries, near 100 yr old building people still staying wat.

some less than 20 years old condo already look quite run down. Shang Villa. (15 years?)
value could increase tremendously if the whole building gets a repaint, and a major clean up of the interiors.

its all depends on the location. and also depends on the community living in it and whether its well maintain or not.
