50mm is just, a normal standard lens la LOL. I doubt Nikon did much to improve that, if they did it would probably be a f/1.2 or something. But the 85mm f/1.4D is one superb glass, the sharpest so far actually. If the new one is even better, I doubt Sigma has any chance against it lol. (Putting price aside).
I would avoid third party as much as possible, they aren't as reliable and robust. |

I'm still confused. By reading the model name of the Nikkor lens, how do we tell if it's intended for FX, or DX, or both? or we have to check it specs in order to find out?

If it says DX, then it's a DX lens meant to pair with DX camera. If it says nothing, then it's a FX lens which you can pair it with DX or FX camera. |

if the name of the lens has DX written on it, then its meant for DX bodies...else its FX or DX .. iirc

I see. FX lenses suitable to be used on DX bodies like D90? Got disadvantages?

Disadvantage? None, it works normally. but of course you can't unleash the full potential on a DX
Btw, 16-35 in action. Pretty sharp! ![]() This post has been edited by celciuz: Jul 22 2010, 09:47 PM |

only disadvantage would be using a UWA or Fisheye on DX body u can really get as much as FX because u have to multiple the normal lens focal length by 1.5x so ur 70-200mm will be 105-300mm which is good but ur 10-20mm will be 15-30mm which is bad lol
summary, its better to invest in normal lens, although u are using DX bodies never buy DX lens...its really not recommended This post has been edited by SoLiD: Jul 22 2010, 09:45 PM |

how to know whether the lens performance is very good like the sharpness and all? i just look the lens focal length and aperture only. do i need to read the lens review?
for example Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro, Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro,Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED. why the nikkor one so expensive? is there any other aspect i need to look for their sharpness and all? thnks in advance for sharing info. nikkor lens is expensive cause of the 2 system which is the VR and AF-s . if u want cheaper option but still nikon then go for the nikon 70-300 AF-G lens. same lens except dont have ED, internal motor and VR. but still a nikon.
i will take a nikon anytime if given the choice. |

the 70 -300mm lens cost less then rm500. but still a nikon. u just have to work around the lens shortcomings and find the sweet spot of the lens where it is at it's best.
pro lens help the pro to do their work faster, normal lens do the same job but abit more harder. This post has been edited by akagidemon: Jul 23 2010, 12:21 AM |
