Why not install a photometric sensor on the circuit?
Not sure if it works indoors though.

Led light spoilt after 7 months. Anyone can advise best way to change without damage the plaster ceiling? I am a novice in this. No experience.

Push it around a bit gently, get a feel for which side plaster more solid and straight. Then pull down from that side slowly, if you can use a plastic trowel to help push the spring back. But don't worry too much about it, plaster ceilings aren't hard to patch back.
